hussarman replied to breezeboy's topic in General Automotive Chat

One advantage of being an OAP is Full Comp insurance from Liverpool Vic. for 240 GBP.

Well Said!

Gleaned from Honest John Website concerning the MK I Fabia. "Like contemporary Polos, 1.4 engines are suffering severe bore wear at around 40,000 miles. If no help forthcoming from Skoda and the engine is beyond saving by www.fer.co.uk this can effectively write off the car".

Soon to collect a Fabia - what to expect?
hussarman replied to Sirbendy's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
All you say is so right. To Quote "Also reading on here other people have had many other common issues and although you usually only here about the bad on these forums, far too many people are reporting the same faults, which means it's not down to maintenance or owner abuse, it's down to manufacturing defects". I have read elsewhere on Briskskoda that Skoda have paid out many many thousands of Euros getting someone to design a new badge for the Citicar due out later this year. A great pity they dont pay out for correcting the numerous design faults on their vehicles. By way of passing, I tend to leave my Fabia unlocked in the hope someone will offload it for me. -
Soon to collect a Fabia - what to expect?
hussarman replied to Sirbendy's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
My experience of the Fabia does not impress me. Electric PAS not good. Poor headlights that flicker when steering wheel is turned. Pools of water in foot wells. Numerous warning lights that show up for no apparent reason and dissapear after restarting the engine. Going round corners is akin to being in a bath tub on a high sea, Sometimes a delay with the 'Fly Drive' throttle peddle not communicating with the throttle valve. MPG around town is diabolical. Persistant fault code that tells me I have a problem with the MAF, can't be, I havent got one. Would I buy another Fabia? the answer is definately no. Looking to buy a Toyota but SWMBO say's when we win the lottery. -
What to do with my octy vrs?
hussarman replied to Sexy yellow VRS's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
I sold my Octy and purchased a Fabia. The Octy is far superior and you may live to regret selling it. -

Enter "Calibrate Throttle" into the search box,. There are many answers concerning the slow response time between pedal and throttle body on the Fabia. -

Don't go much on this"drive by wire" system myself, its a bit hit and miss. I came across this on the Octavia forum, I have tried it but it doesnt seem to make much improvement:- Calibrate the throttle pedal to the the throttle valve. With the ignition "off" press the throttle to the floor. Turn on the ignition and hold the throttle down for about 20 seconds. Turn the ignition back off and then lift off the throttle. -
Fabia 1.4MPI - Fuel Economy Again!
hussarman replied to laura122's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
I drive like Miss Daisy and my 1.4 16v only returns around 21 / 24 MPG around town. Not too bothered as I have only done 700 miles in the last year -
Sorry I ever traded my Octavia in for a Fabia, When I traded the Octavia in at a Skoda dealer last May it sat on the forecourt for 35 minutes and it was then sold on to a lady..

woke up to find both windows down?
hussarman replied to Funky Fab's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
Common fault with the Octavia I, try looking on their forum. -
I prefer to use the "Bruder Mannesmann 12 V Scavenge Pump from www.conrad-UK.com much easier than using a manual pump and at twenty four GBP it's a bargain.

Can someone please help me with this re-occurring fault code. I have cleared the code three times in the last month, Fabia 1.4 16V. 74kw/100HP (Petrol) 2006 model. 17550/P1142/004418 - Load Calculation Cross Check: Lower Limit Exceeded. Possible Causes:- Mass Air Flow Sensors (G70) faulty Intake Air System faulty/leaking (false Air) Throttle Pedal faulty Throttle Body dirty/faulty My local Skoda parts supplier states this model does not have a Mass Airflow Meter/Sensor.

I have a 2007 1.4 16v 100Bhp Elegance one of the last to come off the production line before the facelift. It states on the fuel filler cover "Use unleaded fuel that conforms to 95/98 RON" Nowhere does it state that only 98 should be used, it runs perfectly on 95 juice and I am happy with that.

Plenum chamber drain plugs: If ever you get to find them take them out and throw them away. -
In my day it was a tin of Colmans mustard.

hussarman replied to blown a gasket's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
I had a K Series Rover and it will certainly not fit in a Fabia. -
It's a gimmick, take no notice of it.

Two required for those immediately under the central air vents. -
I purchased two sets of recommended keys, useless! The hacksaw blade worked perfectly.
