  1. Got mine from Frank Follet and he fitted it for me. this man knows his stuff:- VW Golf Mk4 1.8 Water Pumps - VW Golf Mk4 1.8 Water Pump metal
  2. Same problem encountered on Christmas Eve. Took it to Skoda Dealer and they replaced the whole lot under warranty. Seems all the plastics clips etc. are the cause of the problem.
  3. £216 Full Comp from Saga, it's great being an OAP
  4. Had my cam belt, tensioner, auxillary drive belt and metal water pump fitted at a cost of £370 from an independant VAG garage which included 3 litres of A/Freeze. Incidentally, the plastic water pump impellor was intact but the bearing inside the pump was shattered and had scored the outer metal casing, the garage man said he had never seen this happen before.
  5. Humber Snipe 1955, bought it off the Chief Constable of Essex
  6. Grassmere do three different sorts for Octy's ranging from £20 to £55.
  7. For what it's worth. Just booked the machine into Frank Follett Motors at London Colney, independant VAG garage.Priced confirmed was £338.50p which includes new cam belt, alternator belt, tensioner, idler wheel, metal water pump and anti freeze.
  8. My Octy has only 22,345 miles on the clock, but is only four years, six month old. Would it be wise to change the cambelt now or wait for the car to reach the 60,000 mark.
  9. Philips Extreme light bulbs, January sale from :- Philips X-treme Power +80% Philips X-treme 80%, ExTreme, Xenon H7 H4, A1CarBulbs £20.00p which includes Recorded Delivery.
  10. As I see it the ones sold on Ebay are about as much use as a return ticket on the Titanic. The Sealey one is a little better as you can reset the service interval with it but I think it works out rather expensive if you only mean to use it occaisonally.
  11. Ditto. Had this problem on the M6. All of a sudden, couldnt see a thing, it turned out to be a a pin hole in the heater matrix sending a nice spray of steam up the ventilator pipe work.
  12. I recollect there are instructions in the handbook on how to reset the windows if this fault occurs, if I remember right the method used is to insert the ignition key in the drivers door lock and follow the instructions. Sorry cannot be more explicit, my Octy (with handbook) is unavailable until Saturday.
  13. No mention of a fuse for the windows in the handbook, apart from No: 14 for interior light/central locking. There are also fuses in the engine compartment but no mention of these in the handbook.
  14. Had no problems with this dealer, but had to twist their arm to get a good PX price.
  15. For what it's worth can I add my twopenny worth. I first started messing about with oils in 1951 when I worked in a garage, and we always used BP Energol, then along came BP Visco Static. We had numerous complaints from customers with the Mayo problem and nearly all cases they were using Castrol. A change to BP oil always cured the problem. For the last twenty years I have used nothing but Comma oil with no complaints, earlier this year I purchased an Octavia, the Skoda dealer informed me they use only Shell Helix Plus 10-40w. To be on the safe side I purchased some VAG Quantum Synta 10w - 40 for my next oil change and was pleasantly surprised to find it is cheaper than some other well known brands. I travel four miles a day, the engine does not have time to get hot and I do not suffer with fungus on the oil filler cap. A nice shade of pink coolant with no traces of oil sounds fine, I would suggest you choose your oil carefully.
  16. Poured down all day yesterday. Tried the water blade method, not a drop of water entered the boot.
  17. I close the car door, Drivers side. Ignition key removed. After about 40 seconds the central locking system automatically locks the doors even though I have not pushed any keyfob buttons. Unlock the car doors using keyfob and then wait another 40 seconds and car doors automatically lock again. This only happens twice but never a third time in succession, Could it be my car or is this normal.
  18. Having purchased a used Octavia, I too would like to know how you can tell what service schedule the car is on.
  19. Having just purchased my first Skoda perhaps you will forgive me for asking a stupid question. How do you remove the engine cover, does it just pull off or are there nuts/bolts to remove.
