Noisy Heater / Aircon?
I assume you don’t mean the whine from the electric water pump running after the engine is switched off? Just checking.

After Market Towbar for VRS Estate
Weird. They do here in NZ but it’s expensive. I’ve decided to just leave it as my last car had one and I used the tow bar about 3 times in 12 years

Octavia 1.4 TSI iV 13kWh vRS compared to 2.0 TDI vRS DSG
Never driven one but the IV model doesn’t have the lowered sports suspension, the VAQ diff and is considerably heavier than the ICE RS. In addition the total peak power can only be delivered continuously for quite a short period. So yes it’s more a sport line than a true RS. I’d do petrol all the time but out of those two options I’d probably take the diesel although the impression I have is that while the hybrid seems to prone to all sorts of crazy electrical issues involving the 12v battery the diesel can have oil consumption and other issues so caveat emptor and all that.

Question from a Karoq owner
Saying you think I’m a climate change denier because you don’t like the fact that some companies are going back to platforms that allow for ev and ice since ev sales have not gone to forecast. By the way almost all hydrogen is made from natural gas so in addition to the host of issues hydrogen has as a fuel source it doesn’t escape hydrocarbons.

Question from a Karoq owner
I find your comment offensive.

Question from a Karoq owner
Most manufacturers have dedicated EV platforms. Some are heading back the other way to be able to have ICE power plants as EV take up hasn’t met earlier projections. Skoda obviously just takes the VAG MEB platform

Mk4.5 random errors
maybe, all I'm saying is the low battery voltage issue is more you start the car and get some random warnings that go away as you drive and the voltage goes up, whereas this is nothing wrong until some considerable time and in one case the battery's already replaced.

Mk4.5 random errors
Agree that the most common cause is low battery voltage but that is not the issue for those above with an issue occurring after a long drive and/or had a battery replacement. Good luck getting it fixed sounds like an enormous PITA

Please remove some oil...
I volunteer for the coastguard and it’s amazing how hard it is to get the 13 litre inline 6 700hp Scanias to warm up just ticking over. Diesels love load and love to work.

Window wipers
What is the expected lifetime of wipers? I only ask because I got m first service the other day (prepaid) and they said oh do you want us to change the wipers. I thought 12 months was a short time and the dealer said they recommend changing every 6 months! Anyway I said no as the rear wiper has been squeaky from new. I went with Wipertech which is an Australian supplier and they are so much better than OEM.

Enroq vRS question
The efficiency you note equates to 20kWh/100km (sorry not used to the way yo expressed it) which is about right for a so so efficient EV including motorway miles in the mix and in cool conditions. Nothing startling about that. It will obviously be better going slower and when it’s warmer.

Please remove some oil...
The diesel in the oil will evaporate but obviously is less volatile than petrol so it will need a good long drive (45mins or so) where the engine oil ideally gets to the 100°C or so. As I’m sure you know diesel engines like to work and are slow to warm up for various reasons including their heavier construction and the fact there is no throttle plate etc.. so many short trips are going to increase the amount of fuel in the oil that is naturally washed down from bore by the rings and blow by.

Enroq vRS question
I’m responding to the OPs question / comment and he drives and enjoys driving an RS now. Your view is all fine and valid, just don’t then pretend the Elroq is a sporty car by giving it the RS badge. Can’t have it both ways.

Skoda is lying to us... in a good way. My 2025 Octavia vRS Mk 4.5 beat the official 0–100km/h claim.
Auto car did 6sec dead I think. It was always numbers were conservative as the exact same change in the golf GTI from the 245 to 265PS engine they claimed something like a 0.4s improvement vs just 0.1 for a Skoda. More impressive is once you’re rolling, it drives more like a 5.5 sec car certainly brisk enough for most.

Latest Octavia (2025) questions from owners in the UK.
Not in the UK but 4.5 RS owner here. 1 year old now, no issues with infotainment and it seems a significant upgrade on the mark 4 which was associated with problems. Temperature is always on the main screen so easy to change and you can, as I do, have the climate controls always on the main screen. I find the software pretty good overall and easy to use.

Skodapedia
XDS and XDS+ are poor mans versions of a lsd just a software trick to brake wheels to try and minimise wheel spin on corner exit. The VAQ is an electronically controlled mechanical clutch system allowing up to 100% of the drive to go to the outside wheel. It’s based on the Haldex system used for 4WD in most other VAG products.

Enroq vRS question
If you are used to driving an Octavia RS, even a diesel one, you are unlikely to enjoy the Elroq RS as much. Best to think of the ev RS (or vRS since you are in the UK) as a spec level rather than any sporting capability. The Elroq is something like 700kg heavier and combined with the higher height and subsequent cog is never going to handle like a 1500kg sports sedan or wagon. Yes it’s faster 0-60 but once rolling the current Octavia will be faster especially at higher speeds. Yes you’ll save on charging as long as you can charge almost exclusively at home but you’ll have much higher depreciation. The new price difference of £5k is going to give you the first 30k miles of petrol already paid for. I wouldn’t be worried about battery degradation. In the end assuming the driving dynamic differences don’t bother you, you need to work out with the actual range of the Elroq (including in winter when the range will be much less) maps to your trips because if it means you’d be using public chargers a reasonable amount you’ll be paying handsomely for it and of course have the additional down time to take into account.
