  1. I think if you have an RS now you’ll be disappointed going down. As was mentioned it isn’t just the engine (which is more powerful in 4.5 guise with snappier DSG tuning) but the lower spec cars don’t even have independent rear suspension. If the money is the issue so be it but if it you have an RS now because you appreciate what the car is and enjoy driving it I doubt you’ll be happy with the cooking model
  2. It would t be possible or that practical to do the extras after the fact. Unlike the other comment I find the Canton system quite impressive but it did take a bit of running before it performs at its best
  3. Surely no matter the question, Michelin pilot Sport 5 is probably the answer.
  4. Short press for Laura “set temperature to 22 degrees” or long press for Siri “tell my wife I’ll be home at 6:30”
  5. To be honest I haven’t spent much time looking at it because I tend to use Siri to just “call so and so”
  6. You just press the Skoda app and that will dump you back into the car’s software and then hit the button to change the phone selection
  7. Yes I just turn off Lane Keeping assist on startup and I turn the start stop off only if it begins to annoy me. Like I said my objection is solely that the car re-strarting is not a very sophisticated sensation so its annoying.
  8. I had the app but it won't work. The app needs to connect to a dealer to authorise the connection. The one I had went to Singapore! My dealer told me that there are plans to introduce servers in Australia / New Zealand but when that happens it won't be retroactive unfortunately. For me the only downside is not being able to have driving profiles for my wife and I. At least the seat and mirror settings are coded to the memory seats.
  9. Mate I’m guessing that is because he was showing you his app. We don’t have connectivity in New Zealand.
  10. This is my first car with it. I don’t really like the NVH impact of the restart but the car was designed and specced for it and my understanding is that it is fine from a wear and tear perspective. I have noticed that it’s quite smart and won’t engage until the battery level is well charged and the oil temperature is up etc.. For most short errands I do it usually never engages. So I tend to leave it on now and if I’m in a situation where it annoys me I have shortcut at the top of the screen to turn it off.
  11. Don’t think so. Obviously with the different screen options you can have one with a larger Speedo number and larger gear selection but the speed is at the top which presumably makes more sense as it should be at the top rather than the bottom for visibility. I would have specced the HUD personally but I ended up just getting a car from stock that pretty much had what I wanted without a 5 month wait. I was so over the car researching and buying process by then I just wanted it done!
  12. sounds like it wasn't a great experience for you. What are you driving next? I have a face lift car and find it fantastic and the UI, UX is very good but I understand its very difference from the Mark 4 cars.
  13. Here is a screen use alot. My wife likes to mess around with the air con settings so she can do this without needing hot the clima button first. In addition it allows one touch selection of drive modes and easy access to sound controls. I listen to a lot of podcasts so have the system in a speech mode and then change it out when I play music
  14. So I'm loving the new FL 4.5 Octavia RS. We know that it doesn't have the sound actuator of the Mark 4 and sound so much better for it with its 'sports' exhaust. There are no settings in individual mode for exhaust settings. However the subtle pops on the over run that you can hear both inside and outside the car only occur in Sports mode, not any of the others including individual. So my question is what is making this noise? Is there an exhaust valve after all that is only activated in sport mode? OR Is there some kind of audio enhancement that isn't the sound actuator of the old model that somehow is only activated in Sports mode? If it wasn't for the fact you can hear it outside too my money would have been on some artificial pops coming through the audio system, but I'm just not sure. Anyone know?
  15. I think the facelift has done a good job of making it look sportier
  16. Does the car perform normally?
  17. For clarity I’m not recommending doing it. It makes sense to me just to sunrise the OEM sizes.
  18. I understand that some put 235/35s on them. I’d be concerned about ride quality it’s not as if there isn’t plenty of grip with quality performance tyres in the standard sizes
  19. Maybe but you’d want to be keen wouldn’t you. The audio quality will be pretty poor
  20. Up to about 1,500km in my race blue combi now so almost time to give launch control a test although launching a FWD car is always a lesson in futility. Absolutely loving the car every time I get in it and the few friends who have been in it have all been amazed at the interior quality, styling and how it drives. Like most people, Skoda is not really a brand you think of much and few have any better than a neutral impression of it until they see for themselves. I have found, even though you can cycle through the drive modes easily enough with the button, that putting the drive mode option permanently on the screen is quite helpful as I often change it preferring normal most of the time in the city, comfort for a bumpy road, sport or individual when having a play and eco when just sitting on a motorway letting the car mostly drive itself. The canton stereo wasn’t that impressive to me at first but a combo of breaking it in and adjusting it to use less of the immersive sound shows it is actually pretty good with a good sound stage. It reminds me of the best stereo I’ve had previously which was the Harmon Kardon upgrade in an E90 BMW. Infiniti Bose and Subaru Mcintosh were nowhere near as good despite supposedly impressive stats on paper. I continue to love the Race blue, just so nice to have a car in an actual colour which is so rare today outside of sports cars and Supercars.
  21. You’re better to just connect a turn table to it but make sure the DCC is in comfort mode
  22. Yes you just have to look ate 8 to 8.5 delta in claimed times for the Golf GTI with same exact engines as 4 to 4.5 Octavia RS to see that it was going to be quicker than the claim. Driving mine it may be no faster 0-100km/h than my 13 year old Subaru but once it’s rolling it’s a pretty brisk car
  23. Interesting to know that. To be honest having a spare option was important to me but the reality is you should hardly ever use it so a space saver does make sense to me especially since I doubt the sub woofer would fit with a full size wheel?
  24. According to my dealer the app is coming but it won’t be retroactive, ie won’t work on my car. To be honest having the car set up perfectly for each driver would be a bonus but I’m mostly going to drive it and my wife isn’t that tech savvy so I’m the one who adjusts and fiddles with everything 😀
