Finding my way

  1. There is one local spot where my Kamiq fails to pick up a change in limit. That is where there is a sharpish left turn on to the motorway slip (leaving the 40mph limit) where the national limit sign is set back and the excess speed warning beeps start as I accelerate down the slip road. Then further down the slip road, the GPS realises where I am and the 70mph limit appears and all goes quiet again! The camera and GPS systems are not infallible and can get confused by badly placed signage, by signage on adjacent parallel roads etc. The GPS based info that is inbuilt in the Satnav can display the wrong data if limits have been changed limits if the signage is not visible to the camera which will override the GPS data.
  2. The camera probably picked up and displayed the speed limit displayed (like a road sign) on the rear of an HGV, rather than a wrong limit Satnav memory.
  3. Whilst not on a Kamiq, or indeed a Skoda, I have known coil pack failures. Did the dealer replace the plugs when the coils were previously replaced under warranty? I am told that it is best practice to do so to prevent premature failure of the coil pack.
  4. Aldford queried whether you are confusing the trip and total milage displays. This is probably not the case but I have been confused in the past regarding what was displayed. When I got my car (a 2025 Kamiq Monte Carlo) last year, i was confused initially by the total mileage not always being visible if the cluster needed to display some other info in the same space (the warning re distance to the car in front being one such instance that comes to mind although I recall others at times also). On my cluster the trip milage is displayed to an accuracy to one tenth of a mile whilst the total mileage is displayed in whole miles only (rounded down to the last full mile travelled). That might help to determine what is showing. On the display i have selected (other options will be different) the trip mileage is displayed at the bottom of the display to the left of centre whilst the total mileage is displayed to the right of centre on the cluster. Hope you get it sorted without major expense.
  5. I have a 2025 Kamiq Monte Carlo equipped with matrix headlights. As far as I can see, if you have the headlight switch (on the lower right dashboard) set to "Auto" then when you push the lighting stalk on the steering column forward you get the matrix feature. I do not think there is a way to get normal high beam with the switch in the "Auto" position. If you want to use the headlights to get normal dip and normal high beam (by using the stalk) then I think you need to select the headlight setting on the switch and not the auto setting. If anyone knows anything different, I would be interested to know.
  6. Yes, this is what I have done on previous cars that manufacturers required oil level checks on a warm engine. In the case of my last car, a Kia, the levels were, as best I could tell, the same whether checked cold or warm (5 minutes after the engine was turned off after reaching operating temperature). On my Kamiq, I have noted a very slight difference with the cold level being very slightly higher on the dip stick indicating that the time taken for all the oil to drain back fully seems to be longer than 5 minutes or thereabouts. However, if you know that, you can check the oil with the engine cold allowing for that difference. In any event, I never allow the level to be right at the bottom of the acceptable range ("b" in the diagram in the post above). However, as I said in my earlier post I have noted that the dipstick is a very tight fit in the cold tube compared with a warm tube. As for topping up, it would be useful if manufacturers gave some information regarding the top up volume between the lower and higher acceptable readings, especially to avoid overfilling.
  7. Skoda themselves do several versions of the dipstick for the Kamiq 1.0 (I assume it depends on the actual version / year of the car and engine) some with a metal "rod". I know because when I got my Kamiq in March and went to check the oil the next day, the dipstick was stuck and on pulling it firmly out the yellow plastic handle cracked where it joined the metal "rod". I researched dipsticks on line. However, the dealer ordered another for me (at no cost) and that one has been OK. Note that Skoda advise checking when the engine has been warmed to working temperature and then allowed to stand to let the oil drain back - I think the dipstick is easier to remove if the tube is warm. My metal rodded dipstick is also not particularly easy to read given the type of thin synthetic oils now used in engines. If you get an alternative dipstick ensure that the markings are at the same level as the one that came with the car to ensure correct readings.
  8. Yes, the terminology is confusing. If I recall cancelling within 14 days is actually termed "withdrawing" whereas after 14 days it is "settling". I am pretty sure I was within the 14 days hence only paying interest to date whereas after 14 days the extra days interest applied. However, both the dealer and Skoda Finance (whom I spoke to by phone) said that either withdrawing or settling would not affect the deposit contribution. As I said the only caveat was to ensure that the service agreement was fully in place before "withdrawing".
  9. When I bought my Kamiq in February (for March delivery) i was actually encouraged by the dealership to apply for Skoda PCP finance (£2000 deposit contribution, plus another £1000 deposit contribution and a cheap servicing package available only for a few weeks at that time). I was told by the dealer sales manager to ensure that I did not cancel it for at least a few days after delivery to ensure the servicing package was fully set up, but otherwise I could do so at any time and not lose the deposit contribution which, I I said, came to £3000. Without the service package I could have cancelled the day after delivery. Both the car finance and the service package were covered by one agreement but detailed separately on my account on the Skoda Finance website. I cancelled after 14 days or so and was only charged the interest to that date. If I had waited a few more days I would have been charged an additional 28 days interest, but even that would have been a bargain compared to the deposit contribution. My service package was set up as a separate agreement from the car finance (although both fully settled on day 14). The service agreement still shows on the Skoda Finance website with two services yet to be redeemed (but with all monies paid) whereas the car finance element has been removed. Things change all the time and so I expect that Skoda Finance are constantly changing the "rules".
  10. You can get the wheel, tyre and took kit direct from Skoda - https://www.skoda-parts.com/spare-part/658601011f-spare-wheel-skoda-37007.html They quote 146 Euros for wheel and tyre plus 52 Euros for the tools plus carriage by Fedex (based on weight and probably around 20 Euros) Total about 220 Euros , approx. £190.
  11. If you have the car, measure the diameter of the wheel well. The rolling diameter of a wheel inc.tyre is (tyre width x aspect ratio x2) plus wheel diameter (all in mm. e.g my Kamiq has 18 inch wheels with 215/45R18 wheels/tyres. The rolling diameter of that is 650.7mm. ((215x0.45x2)) +(18x25.4)). I purchased the Skoda official spare and tool kit - the wheel and tyre is 205/55R16 which has a rolling diameter of 632mm. This tyre etc fits snugly in the well. Remember, the cars with the tyre repair kit do not come from the factory with the jack, brace etc and so you might need to consider that. Ideally a temporary spare should have a diameter within 3% of the other wheels. As for the Ebay listing, you need some more info about the tyre fitted to work out the rolling diameter - looking at the photos the tyre seems to be 206/60 R16 which gives a folling diameter of 653mm which may be larger than the car's fitted wheels. I suspect that all Kamiq wheels have the same wheel bolt spacing etc., but you need to check that too.
  12. I have a 25 Kamiq . The total mileage on mine only displays on start up and shut down. As other times, as stated above, the position on the dash (on bottom RHS mirroring the trip mileage popsition on the LHS) is occupied by the cruise control symbol (whether off or on).
  13. The 10th letter of the VIN gives the Model Year - L for 2020, M for 2021.
