  1. By over tightening causes the bottom seal to come away from the filter and partially block on of the oil ways. It is not the seal which seals the filter to the housing to stop leaks from the outside but the inner one. I will try and post some pictures to explain later.
  2. The oil filter being over tightened or lack of oil applied to the seals by techs is a known issue with Skoda. There is a technical bulletin about it. The filter and it's housing are not like the normal canister type we are all used to. A dealer would not turn work away warranty or not to punish you unless they had a good reason too. Perhaps they are not talking c##p after all. Maybe the garage who did the service did not know what they were doing or could not read because the fitting instructions are written on the side of the filter.

  4. A recall is when the owner of the car are contacted directly by Skoda and told to take the car to the dealer for repairs usually safety related. A service campaigne or measure are an upgraded part replacement or software update to improve product quality. These are carried out during routine visits to the dealers for servicing or warranty repairs etc. There is no prior notification to the customer.
  5. Garages should not just replace parts because a customer tells them what's faulty even if they have vag print outs. How would you feel if you came back to collect your car and get told the part has been replaced that will be £180 but it's not fixed the fault. This is why they carried out the diagnostic check. If the repair is then carried out and the part is replaced and the fault is not fixed it's down to them to sort it FOC. If you were aware that the fault was the control unit why was the car booked in, a price for the replacement unit could of been given over the phone.
  6. What is the matter with every one. When a car reaches three years the warranty expires! Why should Skoda have to give goodwill to a customer who has just bought a car which has not got the correct main dealer servicing. To get goodwill the customer needs to show the brand and the dealer goodwill. Try taking a washing machine or anything else back to Comet, Tesco's etc out of warranty after they stop laughing they will be happy to show you the replacements available. Having the car serviced out of the network does not effect the warranty unless the failure is due to something which was caused during the service. When you dropped the car off you must have have known they would be charging you to look at it, or did you think they would do it for nothing. Do you also think it's correct for them to fit parts and spend time on your car and let you take it, then wait for Skoda CS to decide if they will contribute. If they don't or you do not agree with what you are offered will you go straight back and pay the difference. Would you go to work for nothing, give customers parts free of charge. NO, then why should they..
  7. Turbo's faults are caused by drivers not letting the car idle a few minutes before turning off, it is stated in the hand book that this should be done. The spindles slack is taken up by oil pressure, when the engine is turned off the oil pressure drops but the turbo still spins. It has cost VW thousands in rejected claims to Garrett. I don,t think it will be long before a full inspection of the turbo will need to be carried by the dealer before its changed under the warranty. If there are the signs of damaged vanes or scrapped housings the costs will be charged to the customer.
  8. You go and have towbars fitted by so called towbar specialists who cant code them and complete the job to save money. Then you take the car to the main dealers and moan when the wiring/software what has been fitted does not show up or code using their equipment. How do they know if the parts/wirng that has been fitted is correct or is compatable with the car. Techs can spend a long time trying to establish this and yes it would effect their bonus. I dont think its unreasonable to ask for the fitting instructions if they tell you how to fit it they should be able to advise how to code it. Oh and buy the way barnold you say you were waiting 45 mins with no joy how much exactly did Robinsons charge you? Let me answer that NOTHING

The latest official Skoda Service Advisors Guide to Cambelt Replacement quotes Fabia 6Y PD, engine up to July 2003, 4 years or 90.000km (55,000 miles) August 2003 onwards, 4 years or 120,000km (74,000 miles)
  10. Report the alarm issues with your main dealer, there is a tech bulletin regarding this and how to rectify it regards.
  11. Its a leaking non-return valve in the pressure regulating valve which is attached to the the intake manifold by hose. (modified part no 06F 129 101K) This causes the system to run too lean at idle, a pressure drop in the charger throttle valve and a leak in the intake system. The fault causes irregular idle and the emissions light to illuminate. No need to wonder any more!
  12. Sounds like the dealer looked after you very well, collected and delivered the car, washed it and fixed it for free. That to me sounds like a very good service especially as the car is out of warranty and it was a part that had failed....
  13. Bumpers don't deform or go out of alignment on there own, its been HIT!
  14. This happens if water gets between the pads and disc, if the car and wheels have just been washed or has got wet while standing over night. Just lift of and re apply the brake. It will also happen if drivng for long periods in wet conditions with out using brakes. ie motor ways. When the brake is applied nothing happens lift and re apply. There was a tech bulletin about this once. There is nothing you can do about this, it happens with all cars. Especilly cars with alloy wheels which expose the brakes to the elements..
  15. If the problems only been since the cambelt was changed then the commencement of injection is out. This should be checked and adjusted if required after every belt change or removal. A lot of garages just replace the belt and have no idea this should be checked.
  16. Robinsons charge approx £105 for a diesel and £90 for a petrol for annual or 10k servicing. Fault codes are read and the car is checked for out standing service campaigns. Thats not expensive.
  17. The charge of £78 to diagnose the car is for one hours work, the tech was actually on the job and working with Skoda tech for 3.34 hrs. The additional time was written off as a goodwill gesture from the dealer because of the previous warranty repair. The dealer tried to get goodwill for the complete repair from Skoda UK before you were called and they declined it not the main dealer. Why should dealers carry out tests and checks on cars for free, it costs a fortune for training, tools and equipment. Hopefully the steering angle sensor will fix the car, but it was working ok when tested. If it does not will you be wanting the nice dealer to give you the £172 back after all they are only recommending it.
  18. There has been a lot of posts regarding the creaking noises from the front/rear suspension of the Octavia II has anybody or dealer actually managed to find the problem and rectify it succesfully. If so what did they do? Thanks
  19. Could someboby please confirm what has actually stopped the creaks is it the arms or the roll bar bushes or both? What ever is done seams only to rectify it for a short time.
  20. If you dont know what the fuel filter looks like then you really are not up to playing with electrics and injectors, leave it alone before you really bugger something up.
