  1. If you had done a lot of miles in a short time (eg 10k in 6 months) then the first service should have been just an oil and filter change (about 90 quid). Check your service book and see if inspection is ticked. I managed to notice this before i paid and then only got charged the 90 quid, 6 months later i could request that only the oil + filter + "additional every 30,000 km extras" were done at a total cost of 115 quid If you push them hard, i'm pretty sure you'll get a decent discount if not the entire price difference credited And i agree, being charged for windscreen wash annoys the absolute **** out of me
  2. During recent service the protocol showed that my gearbox needed "topping up" (no indication of how much though). Is this normal or indicative of a leak somewhere? Car is Fabia 1,2 12v, two months away from end of warranty:eek:, has done 60,000km and was originally delivered with too much oil in the box (corrected after 2 months!) Appreciate any tips, i have requested that the dealer find out just how much oil went "awol" from the mechanic (don't you just love centralized customer reception systems in vag dealers )
  3. You've probably checked this already but when i had the same problem (caused by the doors :P) i had also noticed water on the top of the boot seal. When questioned the dealer said it was leaking from the washer pipe and to be fair i havn't seen a repeat since they rectified the washer pipe
  4. I must admit i have never driven the 1.4 because after a test drive i bought the 1.2 12v straight away. Most of the time the car is relatively "unloaded" but have also driven fully laden and it was fine. I can imagine that if you are fully laden, with 4 adults and the AC switched on then you might struggle on inclines. Apart from that don't expect to win drag races but overtaking in 5th is smooth at motorway speeds. (incidentally my previous car was an escort 1,8 16v )
  5. Thanks perhaps i just hadn't noticed the difference earlier:O
  6. I have a Fabia 1.2 htp (12v) from march 2007 with approx 35000km on the clock. Lately i have noticed a distinct difference in both performance and fuel economy when the AC is switched on (i would say approx 10bhp power loss and economy worse by 15%) that i hadn't noticed earlier. Is there anything that can cause the AC to be drawing more "power" from the engine? (AC works fine, chills relatively quickly and has been used regularly even when not required (to avoid leaky seals))
  7. Also having this problem, in the showroom i was not impressed at all. The above pictures have changed my mind a bit and i'm coming to the conclusion that the car actually looks good from any angle apart from standing in front of it at normal height From above, the side, diagonally above, low angle etc it looks pretty good but when i see them "straight on" it makes me think that they couldn't decide whether to copy the mini or evolve the old shape and ended up doing neither:eek::confused:
  8. Well had a chat with the service boss today. Car is booked in on the 10th of March, guy was squirming a little due to the previous "doors" incident and so a meeting with the Skoda sales manager has been booked for the same day to discuss my disillusionment with Skoda/VAG and how that may affect my future purchasing plans (since the dealership does the whole VAG range) Coupled with the strong(ish) consumer protection laws over here it should be quite a fun day If they do solve the noise, i will of course post the cause of it (and solution) here. Now to find that "ask a tech" thread that i missed completely during my surfing of the site
  9. Dealer says "dunno, we couldn't find anything". In short car has been serviced, checked and supposedly test driven without them being able to identify a fault. However since they managed to make the leaking doors problem worse at their first attempt my confidence is not exactly high Car is 10 months old, has done 21000km and has been driven "smoothly" (fuel economy being the key!)
  10. Seconded - eco contacts, great for wear but bloody frightening when it's wet or heading towards 0 degrees  Mind you, it goes give a reliable indication as to whether the ABS is really functioning...
  11. I've borrowed the description from the "recalls and faults" section as it seems i am not unique in having this problem. However i wonder if anyone can pin the cause down: a rather large "cracking noise" either when going over bumps in a left hand bend or when aggresively entering a smallish roundabout (RH traffic) where there is a very distinct "right-left" motion at speeds that stress the car but not the tyres! The noise occurs singularly but can happen several times during one journey. It comes from the righthand side of the car and if pushed i would say it sounds more like mid-rear. Would appreciate any input as the car is once again going back to the dealers (for a cracked instrument panel:mad:) and last time the expert opinion on the noise was "dunno, we couldn't find anything!" Thanks.
  12. Funnily enough this happened to me last week. An outward journey of 40 miles showed me averaging approx 44 mpg (headwind) and the return journey (same road, approx same speed etc) approx 53 mpg (tailwind)
  13. Funnily enough i was reading an advert for Subaru and linked to Auto Index 2007 (the swedish equivalent of JD power). When it came to issues regarding aftercare, guarantees, goodwill and the service centers in general: Audi and Volkswagen came in last ! Skoda were just above average but it shows why service is noticably worsening at Skoda :thumbdwn:! Back to the original thread topic (leaky doors): had mine done according to the "skoda method" and it did **** all, even the service manager was embarassed when i turned up with a steamed up car (despite driving for 40 minutes!) a week later:rofl:. Now they have replaced ALL door seals, added sealant around all the seals and replaced the carpets. So far it has been much better:faint:
  14. Picked up the car today. The service boss admitted that the Skoda recommended fix hadn't worked at all and so they have now stripped down the doors (all 4), replaced the seals and actually used sealant around all the seals. New carpets fitted in the back and car dried out with heaters/dehumidifiers. So we'll see how it goes from here... Incidentally he did actually say that the melting snow provided a much better "test" (and subsequently illustrated the leaks more clearly) than drenching it with a hose
  15. Had the door seals and washer pipe fixed two weeks ago. The garage said they had dried everything out and to be fair i couldn't find any wetness. Car is now going back in due to having serious condensation, ice on the inside of windscreen and ice under the rubber mats in the back! (its only -4 and the car was only still for 36 hours!!) See what happens this time....
  16. Could it possibly be coming through the pollen filter rather than the door? The "old" Fabia has this problem, see Fabia forum.
  17. Hi all Car is going in on monday regarding door seals and a disturbing noise. Now before saying anything, i will just state that when it comes to cars and diagnosing noises (including where they are actually coming from:O) i am about as much use as a 99 year old grandmother whose hearing aid batteries have gone flat Nevertheless any tips before i leave the car with them would be appreciated: Car is left hand drive. On the passenger side (right) there is an occasional noise (1 - 2 times per hour) that sounds roughly like a baking tray "warping" in an oven (you know the almost "clang" sound of metal switching shape due to temperature change). The noise sounds like it is coming from around the door/frame area (but again i could be way out). The noise usually occurs during left hand turns and/or at speed when the suspension is loaded by an undulation. I should stress i cannot force the car to make the noise at will (i.e it doesn't happen everytime by recreating a certain set of conditions) Any ideas welcome and i will now go and take some form of testosterone to make up for describing a noise on a car as being like something from the kitchen :P:thumbup:
  18. Not operating at all and/or pedal going soft in varying degrees (to the extent the car would not stop on occasion)
  19. Oh i couldn't resist such a dreadful pun Two seperate Swedish road tests of the new Fabia Combi resulted in BOTH having problems with the brakes partially failing on slushy roads (in urban situations). Skoda are investigating the cause. Link to Dagens Nyheter: Fabia kan ha allvarligt bromsfel (Its probably out there in english somewhere too!) Skoda say that the factory has not had any complaints from other countries as yet, so if you have seen/heard/experienced anything it would be good to compile a list
  20. Hi all, Englishman living in Sweden. Bought a Fabia just prior to the model change (price was right ). Car is 1.2 htp 12v (64 bhp) and i'm very impressed with most things about it (door leaks aside :() especially the 3 pot engine - love the sound Really appreciate this forum and members, have found out a lot of good information
  21. Servicing guide - pollen/dust filter 30,000 km or max 4 years.
  22. Swedish Skoda owner here. I bought my fabia just before the model changeover (april/may 07) and now have discovered leaks in both back doors and the rear hatch. Car is now booked in and we'll see what happens.
