  1. The Worldwide Developers Conference by Apple starts today at 6pm BST. They will be announcing what is actually happening with the new iPhones at some point this week, hopefully sooner rather than later.
  2. When you get a quote from any Insurance Company and declare the optional extras they take these into account for the value of the vehical and in an accident would cover the costs of repair/replacement of these extras in with the cost of normal repairs. All the normal "high street" insurance companies (e.g Tesco, Norwich Union etc) will cover the extras in the event of a claim. Always declare these extras when getting quotes because in the event of a claim the insurers will find these extras and apply the additional premium that should have been paid in the first place. BUT if the extras make the car a vehicle that they would not have insured if they knew about the extras at policy inception then they would be entitled to void the policy and therefore not pay out on the claim. (I added this paragraph just to explain about extras - I did read your initial post that your brother is going to declare the extras) Hope this makes sense and is of help.
  3. I'm to see what Apple announce with their rumoured new iPhone.
  4. I see where you're coming from afcb ian. But in my example of driving in bright sunshine into and out of shadow the cars without lights were hardly visible, but the cars with their lights on were clearly seen.
  5. I agree that everything needs declaring - then you know exactly where you stand with your insurance. Just a sidenote from: If you have stickers on your car (not the ones the garages put on abouth them) you will need to declare these as in some instances they can be viewed as advertising and therefore your car will need business cover. I don't know the details as to what is viewed as advertising, but you would need to check with each individual insurance company as they all have different opinions.
  6. I do the same as Simbo99 - just leave headlights on all the time. The reason being that in all light conditions my car is more visible. The necessity of this was confirmed driving around Devon last week in bright subshine going from shade and bright sunshine. When you are in one, and a car is coming towards you from the other they are very hard to see because of the change in natural light. BUT if anyone had their lights on they were clearly visible. The reason why I started to leave my headlights on was because I read that the UK is looking at introducing a law/legislation that all cars will need to drive with at least their sidelights on - like you get with any Volvo. How often at dusk do you see drivers without any lights on, when sunlight is getting very dim? Just leaving your headlights on means that you never have to think about needing to turn them on.
  7. I've just put in my second litre at 12000 miles.
  8. I straight-line empty roundabouts in Bradford if it's not going to interfere with other drivers. I'd be surprised if the policy questioned you if it doesn't cause any issues, and you're not going at an excessive speed, because it makes your drive safer and less challenging. I understand that the police could view it as a sign of intoxication but there would be other signs of this present, eg general inability to stick within your lane, etc.
  9. Thank you both for your help. I'm not very good at checking the car at regular intervals - i just do what I'm told when the car tells me something. I won't have any problems with the CAT as we are dog people!!!
  10. The oil symbol appeared on my dash yesterday. I've got the oil I need, but how much do i put in? I don't know if it makes any difference but the engine is a 2.0TDi with manual transmission. Thank you in anticipation
  11. What I have been told is: the drivers in the lane that is disappearing have to give way. On a road where there is a permanant merging of lanes there is usually an arrow painted on the road - this arrow tells you who is merging in the permanant lane. (Hope this makes sense)
  12. I agree. In my experience (twice in the last week, let alone before that) it's the drivers who are in the wrong that give the worst response. Both times it was at a roundabout when the "nice person" beside me decides to wander across into my lane, which are clearly marked, and I sound my horn so that I don;t have to move into the car that's next to me on the other side. I then get verbal and finger abuse, and the second even went to swerve into me having got off the roundabout! WTF is their problem. If I had been in the wrong, then fair enough but I woudn't get angry about it. Sorry, I was forgetting - I was in the wrong for being in their way when they needed that piece of tarmac that I was locating!
  13. I don't know legally, but if you've paid for a years insurance and not made any claims then you would have a no claims bonus with that company. You need to work out whether it is financially worth it - also it will be worth checking wen you can apply the NCB to a new insurer as the MoreThan insurance doesn't end until November.
  14. Is it possible to turn off the automatic wipers? I am finding it very annoying that I am regularly having to put them on the constant setting to slow them down, or having to change the setting so they wipe when I need them to - i would much rather have the 4 intermittant speed settings. Thank you in anticipation of lots of helpful answers...
  15. I bet that was a great drive - lots of scenary to look at so need to fly along those fun country roads
  16. Living in Bradford will probably explain why I'm not selling that many.. Will have to discuss with swmbo about moving to Wales
  17. Errr, yes that's right - sheep dealing That's how I paid for my second car, the Ford Baa!! :P
  18. You'll get insurance with some companies, but obviously their premiums will reflect the 'young-drivers' risk. It all depends on the individual company's customer target. If they don't want to insure young drivers in a sports-line car then they won't give you a quote, either that or a stupidly high quote.
  19. Get trading in the white stuff - and I'm not talking about icing sugar!, and you too can have a car like the rest of them...
  20. Just in case you didn't know: Paypal is owned by Ebay! (thieving......
  21. Glad to hear they are accepting liability. Hope the repairs go well and your head recovers soon.
  22. Hope you, and any passengers?, are ok This all depends on the value of the car and the cost to repair the damage. A car is written-off if the repairs cost at least 60% of the value of the car. You will need to wait to see what the engineer says who assesses your car as to whether it is repairable or not. Hope your claim is assessed and finalised as smoothly as possible. Just a note on courtesy cars - you are entitled to a courtesy car through the other party's insurers. If your car is written off make sure you check how long you are entitled to the courtesy car because if you go over you will incur hire costs of the vehicle. Andy
  23. I hope he sees the errors of his ways, do let us know what happens
