Groanings
Garage recons I need a new shock. On back order so fitting in 2 weeks. I'll have to contend with the groaning till then. Also when the wife is out of the car too. 😉

Temporary "trembling" sensation when driving
My approach to cleaning injectors and turbos is to use a tank of premium diesel and go on a motorway drive and hold the revs between 3-3.5k for about 10-15 miles so it gets nice and hot to burn away deposits.

Reverse sensors not working.
It's probably the buzzer in the B pillar that has gone. Easy cheap fix as I said above.

WHAT!!??

Groanings
Yeah, it's a shame I could get booked in with my usual garage that did the repairs 10 months ago as if the top mount had failed I would expect a bit of goodwill towards fixing it. They are booked up until mid August! I've used this other garage recently for the rear hub bearing and ABS sensor as well as cambelt work before. They are a good outfit and specialise in all things VAG. They are also 2 miles away rather than 10 so they might just become my new 'go to' place.

Groanings
Sounds like OSF. It's more like going over bumps. Straight line is ok. Think it is antiroll bar bushes. Can't be top mount as had that OSF done less than 10 months ago. Don't think it is engine mount as had in on the handbrake and rolled forward and backwards in 1st and reverse but no sound. Had rear consol bushes done 18 months ago so unlikely that. No sounds from steering going lock to lock when stationary. Anyway, got it booked in next week at the garage as the following week driving to Scotland and around and back over 1200 miles and don't fancy listening to and worrying about the creaks and groans.

Groanings
Never knew that. However, brake fluid is not handily supplied in a pressurised spray form to reach those hard to get at bushes towards the centre of the car. Anyway, car is still creaking a groaning and will need to drive it 1000 miles in 10 days. Unlikely to be able to book it into my usual garage before then 😞

Groanings
Hi. My nearly 20 year old car is groaning. It's just passed its MOT with flying colours and I did mention to them to check out the suspension as I noticed the noises. No problems found. Groaning persists. Honestly if I was a 20 year old car I'd probably groan a bit, but ideally I'd like to stop it. So far I have taken off all wheels and liberally sprayed with penetrating lube and spray grease and more lube all of the suspension bushes, anti roll bars, drop links, spring cups etc. Absolutely no difference. I'd have expected some change however slight. Any ideas?

Reverse sensors not working.
Did they work before? Does an image flash on the screen then disappear when reverse is engaged? Have you been able to scan for fault codes? Probably the sensors. Possibly the buzzer in the B Pillar. Buzzer you can get for a tenner off amazon. Easy to replace. Sensors about 25-30 for decent set. Not easy to replace if you have a tow bar fitted.

MOT Time
Apparently it was absolutely fine! It even accepted the re-gas. No suspicious suspension parts so they said just keep an eye out if and when it gets worse so they can diagnose it. I'm amazed. Not bad for a 20 year old motor!!

Help with Thule roof bar fitting
Careful when torquing them up. You want them to be just firm and not over tighten them or else you'll get four nice roof dents. This happened to me with a genuine Skoda roof bar set bought from a dealer and using the supplied tool. The tool vastly over-tightened the bolt (didn't click when torqued) and dented my roof. Skoda argued that it was user error and blamed me. I asked them to fit the bars to a car in their showroom using the tool supplied. They refused.

MOT Time
Always a day fraught with nervousness awaiting the phone call to hear what battering my wallet will take this time! Considering the car is very nearly 20 years old I do expect a number of things to start failing, even those that have already been replaced previously. Noticed a rather conspicuous groan/creak from a suspension component that has appeared over the last week. Also air-con loses gas over a year. Usually it's not so rapid the machine shows a leak so it allows a refill. Oh, well. I'll wait and see and update this later.

Which ABS sensor? 2005 BKD
Hi. I had this exact same fault on mine three weeks ago. Went to my local independent VW/Skoda garage. It turned out the Reluctor ring in the hub had corroded so much it munched then end of the sensor away requiring new hub and sensor. From what I've read this is the usual case and the sensors themselves tend to not fail unless damaged by the rusted ring. Total cost was £330 incl VAT. The fitted a Pagid sensor. https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/pagid-abs-traction-control-sensor-417440698 Can't recall the brand of hub they fitted. Labour was about 1.3 hours @ £72 per hour. Hope this helps. I thought it was a little steep at first but realised it was a fair price after looking at it. Edit: it was this rear hub: https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/snr-wheel-bearing-kit-628440300

Rear Suspension Adjustment Seized. Again!
Yeah, I guess so. If it needs doing then I'll tackle it but probably just leave it for now and keep an eye on tyre wear.

Rear Suspension Adjustment Seized. Again!
Hi all. Rear Suspension Adjustment Seized. Again! Had this done about 7 years ago with new bushes and bolts. I dowse the lot in GT85 once a year. Was in the garage for some front suspension work and asked them to free off the bolts for when I get 4Wheel Alignment done in a few weeks. They say the bolts are seized in the bushes. What's the cheapest, best way of tackling this? I'm not seeing any adverse wear on the rear and the steering is straight and true. Should I just leave it?

Cruise control light
My late 2004 Elegance has Cruise Control but definately NO light to tell you it's active.

Front shockers and springs HRLP 😢
Looks more like RED | WHITE | PINK, though I think some refer to the PINK as PURPLE or VIOLET just to add to confusion. It's possibly either this or this... https://www.skoda-parts.com/spare-part/1k0411105db-suspension-spring-front-axle-sachs-42816.html or this post but both indicate the same part No, https://www.volkswagenforum.co.uk/threads/golf-gt-tdi-springs-part-number-query.38997/

Best Diagnostic tool?
I have had the T55 for years. It's a solid unit but very slow to scan and gives limited info that you then need to google. It lists loads of addresses you can scan but a lot (most) are not supported on older cars. I bought an OBDEleven and it is miles and miles better than the T55. Much quicker to use and gives more info on faults. Highly recommed this over the T55. Get the Next Gen one as the earlier model fouls the shroud of the dashboard so it doesn't plug in right.

1.9 vs 2l tdi, which is best?
I find the 2.0 16v TDi drives more like a petrol than the 1.9 i.e. its more free revving and doesn't have the low down slug of torque the 1.9 has but it pulls higher into the rev range. I can manage 58.7mpg measured by filling tank on a 400 mile run to Scotland and back but that is cruising keeping revs around 2,000 and driving like a granny. Rubbish around town though.

Hot start problems
My 2.0 BKD TDi has done this since forever. Had various new batteries over its life. Cleaned all the earthing points with emery paper etc etc etc. No fault codes. Starts on the button when cold (had a slight issue last year when it wasn't driven much). But when hot it takes a few cranks for it to fire. I just take it as a characteristic of the engine now.

Help with a rear cycle carrier for an estate
I have long legs and can get a full size road bikes with 700c wheels in the back of my Octavia hatch with both wheels still on. I've got full sized doors in the back albeit with the front seats a bit further forward than usual.

Moisture inside again 🤬
Yup. Me too. Following. Hate touching the inside of the screen as it's a nightmare in the low sun of winter with smears etc.

Skoda octavia scout 2012 - exhaust smell in car
Are you sure it's from your car? I smelled something similar the other day but realised it was from the traffic around me, especially at this time of year with the freezing weather and engines being cold and there being not much wind. As soon as I was clear of traffic the smell went.

Wheel centre cap size?
You do when you have 16" rims with the center caps.

Wheel centre cap size?
If they are aftermarket versions of the originals (ebay etc) you'll often find them slightly too big to fit. I've had this happen three times on different cars now. I've had to file down the plastic nibs to get them to fit after smashing one like you did with a large mallet. Saying that, I got some genuine Skoda ones for my 16" OEM alloys. They are such a tight fit if I had a pucture at night or on a busy road I'd nver be able to get them off safely. Last time I took a wheel off the center cap was such a fight it suddenly set go and I almost ruptured a disk in my back that had me laid up for two weeks in extreme pain.
