  1. Sounds like we're look for conspiracy where there isn't one It will have been an option on the FL 230. So if this was a previously owned car, original purchaser specified it. If it was a pre-registered car, whoever ordered it took that option. If you ordered it from new, then it sounds like it was a cancelled order that happened to have it as a feature and it just remained and you lucked out.
  2. This Inlet Manifold thing is so damn annoying - from what I remember reading, this is a "known issue" and in the US the warranty on this part was extended to 100k/10yrs or something like that. But get VW/Skoda UK to admit the same thing and they have none of it. I had the exact same thing happen to my 2011 vRS and I eventually had to have a new Inlet Manifold at 4yrs. I managed to wangle some "goodwill" from Skoda as it was my third Skoda, I'd always taken it back to them for servicing etc. However it still wasn't exactly pocket money that I paid. When the car was 7yrs old, I started getting the warning light popping up again and a scan revealed the exact same fault again. As it happened I was starting to look for a replacement car - so I'm (partially) ashamed to say I used a code reader to clear the error and the warning lights about half an hour before I traded it in - thankfully nothing showed up when they were giving it the once over. But for a part with no service interval, that is supposed to last the lifetime of the car to fail at 4yrs and then the replacement to fail around 3yrs after that - makes me mad.
  3. With HID's it's always recommended to replace both bulbs - there will be a colour difference between the new one and one of any age. Only problem of course is they aren't cheap.
  4. Hi All, Wonder if someone might be able to help me with some VCDS coding for Longlife/Variable Servicing. My local dealership appear to be having issues setting this - so thought I might look to resolve myself I'm looking to code for 20,000 / 2yrs I've found an old article that seems to point towards: Select Control Module>17 Instruments>Adaptations>Select Channel>IDE-335-FIX-Maximum time until..... There is then mention of ESI/FIX channels being for longlife and SIA being for fixed. Just wondered if some VCDS experts might have some ideas? Cheers all.
  5. So I went in today and they have taken a look. As the car was only booked for an MOT they didn't have a massive amount of time to investigate. They have promised me a fluids & filters service FOC, which is fair enough - after 7k miles it's unlikely it'll need plugs etc. However, when they were looking they said they were unable to set it to more than 12k miles. I wasn't trying to tell them their job, but I was stressing that sounds like a fixed interval and I want it setting to variable. They have said they will need the car longer to find why they seem unable to set the interval to anything but 12k. Got it booked in a couple of weeks.
  6. I'm very much a "back to dealership while the car is in warranty" kind of person. I know EU rule stated a number of years ago that so long as a car is maintained to the same level as a dealership they cannot invalidate warranty - but for the relatively low additional cost, it just seemed easier to go back to them. Absolutely no arguments in the case of warranty work required. 15th November and it's 3yrs old, so no more warranty (although I am debating if I'm going to extended it another year). Once that warranty is all over then I will move to other options. It just amazes me that I decided that pragmatic approach last year was to pay for another service - I couldn't get a guarantee that when it was serviced just prior to my collection they had used all of the "long life" materials. I could have said "sod it" last year, assume they just forgot to reset things correctly and carried on driving until I reached the 2yr/18,000 area and then got it serviced. In the end I paid for a service I likely didn't need under the instruction we could start again and it would be variable going forward. I shall dig out my invoice for last year and also ask them to show me list of parts used - as long as they can confirm long-life oil was used etc, then I'm happy for them to reset whatever things need resetting and I'll see them in a year. If they cannot prove that, then I'll be asking them to service it again foc and then resetting it to variable as I did a year ago - think that is the least they can do.
  7. I bought my car as a 1yr old back in 2018. When I went to look at it I noticed it was asking for a service at the 9k miles it had on the clock. I discussed this with the dealership, they said of course it would be serviced before I took it. We talked about schedules and it was agreed that I'd be moved over to variable servicing. Assurances were made, I collected the car a week later and have been happy with it ever since. At almost to the day it's 1yr anniversary since I bought it, I got the "oil service due - 30 days" message on the screen. I spoke to the original dealership, apologetic, excuses - but at a 220 mile return journey I decided not to go back to them. Also, not knowing what exactly had been done in the service that previous year, I went to my local main dealership - explained, said I would pay for a service again now - however I want the car moving to variable servicing. Fast forward another, almost to the day, year and once again I've got the "Oil Service - 30 day" message popping up. That's 1yr and 6000 miles later - so obviously once again it has not been moved to variable servicing. As it happens I'm at the dealership tomorrow for the cars first MOT so I shall be having words - they need to resolve this, be that resetting counters or free servicing, that is up to us to decide once I chat to them tomorrow. But how can this be so difficult? A simple request and I'm lead to believe a simple thing to change - yet here we are. Madness! Rant over.
  8. Cheers both. I'm still in two minds on the warranty side. As for Skoda Assistance, I can see it is a comprehensive package - I think the full European cover is what makes it a good price, however as I'm very rarely driving outside of the country I think there are better deals to be had. Just popped along to Green Flag and I can take a "everything but European cover" package for only £53 - so may well take that option.
  9. I know there are some mixed opinions on extending a warranty once the original manufacturers has expired. My car runs out of warranty in about a months time. I've taken a look at the Skoda Extended Warranty - seems to cover the majority of components the original warranty did - there are some exclusions listed, but they are as expected and really it's covering wear & tear items. My car is as signature, will be on around 27,000 miles at time or warranty finishing. The "All component cover" is available to me at the following cost £0 Excess - £400 £100 Excess - £340 £250 Excess - £260 Not silly prices at any level to be honest - and does of course give that little peace of mind. Under no illusion it would remain at this price as the car got older. In addition, I can see that "Skoda Assistance" also expires, obviously. I know SA is nothing more than an RAC policy - however it's pretty comprehensive, covers most events and situations etc. If I wanted to renew that, I've been quoted: 1yr - £99 2yr - £155 So this gives you Roadside, Relay, Home Start, Relay Plus & European cover. I know, at the end of the day only I can decide how risk adverse I am. Not hearing horror stories about the Mk3 models, but some are always going to have problems etc. What's the opinions on above?
  10. Diamond Cut? Realistically you're looking at a refurb wheels off & milled at around £100 - £120. Some places will offer a repair - when I was looking around I could only find one place willing to do anything remedial on such wheels and even then they couldn't guarantee the finish etc. Otherwise, consider getting all 4 wheels powder coated instead - for the cost of 2 refurbs you could almost certainly get all 4 powder coated and that also means cheaper remedial work for if/when you curb them again. I've currently got two 19" Diamond Cut wheels with curb damage - excellent condition second hand wheels are few and far between, new wheels are silly money - so may well go the powder coat route.
  11. It will be - but like so many drivers on the road, they don't care, so long as they can see miles ahead and perceive that it "looks good". Thankfully the roads aren't full of them, but when you are faced with someone who has just "slammed in some different bulbs or lighting styles - because the rules apply to everyone else but them" it's just so damn annoying. I'd have their cars off the road and crushed if I was in charge.
  12. I have two Xtreme 19" alloys with some curb damage. For a little more than getting those two fixed back to factory state, I could get all 4 of mine powder coated. I'm not a fan of black wheels if I'm being honest. The wheels with the diamond cut are fine, but as said - pain to get repaired if further damaged. I'm currently debating having mine all powder coated in Anthracite - my car is in Corrida Red. I do know Black & Red does work, but really just not keen on completely black wheels.
  13. I have a little bit of damage to two of my 19" Xtreme alloys. Remedial work in place, but I know they will need repairing and at around £115 each. Wondering if anyone has had theirs powdercoated and could put up some pictures? For less than the repair of two diamond cut's I could get all 4 powercoated, giving me a "cheaper" repair option in the future should I make any mistakes. Considering getting them done in Anthracite, I'm not keen on black wheels, although silver was also a consideration. My car is in Corrida Red, so think anthracite might suit best. Cheers all. *Not sure how much traffic this sub-forum gets, sorry if it gets reposted in to the Mk3 thread and you have to read me twice!*
  14. Yup - almost certainly and won't be a blanket issue with a blanket solution. I've seen MicroSD cards moving around in some adaptors and you do wonder if in a car, with general vibration, that might cause issue for some setup's. I know that the newer, faster standard cards don't come in full-size flavour, but you don't need rated transfer speeds that high for music. Gotta be worth a shot if you are having the issue - what with full size 32GB cards costing no more than about £7 - £8.
  15. It would do that if it was detecting that the card had been removed/reinserted. Are you using a MicroSD card in an adaptor? I'm sure I read that some people had experienced issues using such cards where occasionally it would restart playing from the first track etc. Do you have a full size SD card you could test for a period of time?
  16. Personally, I don't think Dash Cams are an area to particularly "shop by price". I'm sure there are some really good budget systems out there. However, like with CCTV, the proof is in the pudding and I'd say there is nothing worse than spending any amount of money and then once you need them to do their job - the end result is useless. That being said, I didn't spend silly money on my Thinkware F770 (Front & Rear). Hardwired in with battery monitoring, so everything cable wise is extremely well hidden and they won't drain my battery when I'm parked up. I'm sure the model I have has been superseded now, but don't know by what.
  17. You're just a deposit in right now, so certainly worth a final walk around before you hand over the cash. I think it's being recognised that this has been, generally, the best built Octy - I don't think there are any major "known issues" with them. Sure you'll read a few stories on here, but that is to be expected and the many thousands of people without issue don't have the time to post "Yer - all fine here thanks".
  18. That sounds like a dealer really not wanting to take the job on to me But couldn't agree more on the "it's going to cost you a fair chunk of cash, it isn't just a matter of two light units out, two light units in".
  19. All DRL's should dim when headlights are switched on - clue is in the name, they are daytime running lights and are simply too bright for night use at full power. I think they drop by about a third once headlights come on.
  20. Or alternatively, these will be the people who have driven or used a car with a heated front windscreen and decided that the glare or thin wires are a problem. Seems odd you'd think the only people complaining about that would be people who don't have a heated front windscreen.
  21. Great stuff - thank you. I'll complete sanding it down and put a little clear lacquer on to protect for the time being.
  22. If I'd been buying new, I think the Winter Pack is the only option I'd have wanted to add. I had heated seats in my Mk2.5 and I do miss them in my current car. Heated front screen would also be a god send. However, as someone above said - might be worth a test drive on a sunny day as there is a glare that some people notice. Also try with your regular sunglasses as that can sometimes make the issue worse.
  23. Couldn't decide if this post should go here or the Wheel Zone - I'll risk it in this forum. 19" Xtreme alloys, got a little bit of curb rash. I know the only way to restore is a full refub, wheel off, milled and returned. Is there anything I can put on the damage to prevent corrosion and the like? I'm not necessarily looking to get the wheel completely refurbished at this point - £120 for what is quite minimal damage isn't pocket change, think I'd rather wait until I've had a few more accidents Just wondered if I could put anything or coat over the damage to minimise corrosion. Looking at alloys of the past it's rarely the actual damage that makes wheels look unsightly, rather the subsequent corrosion.
  24. Yer, I know - contradictory What I mean to say really is - WBAC will give you a fair quote as long as you're fair with anything they "will find" on inspection. I found them very fair, they pointed at something, I said that is normal stonechip damage for a car that age, they didn't make a deduction. I had just drive from Cambridge to Mansfield and when they started the car up there was a little white smoke - I'm convinced probably related to the manifold issues. Before I said a word he just looked and went "well it's a cold engine......" and carried on his inspection. I'm not going to correct him am I?
  25. I was happy with my WBAC valuation last time around - be honest with condition and damage and all is fine. They offered me £500 more than main dealer for my old car. So I negotiated £500 discount on my new car purchase for "cash only" (wasn't cash, but obviously no p/ex) and then got exactly what I was offered by the WBAC app. I was honest about the condition of my car, we all see our own vehicles through rose-tinted specs. As it happened, by old car was starting to throw up warning lights which were equating to an Inlet Manifold fault (for the second time in it's life) - so I was literally clearing fault codes in the car park while I was waiting for me turn to have their vehicle inspected. I took the "pay me in 2-3 days" option via bank transfer as opposed to the "pay me know" which has additional cost associated.
