SatNav help
I don't know why they made the postcode entry so difficult to find - I'm running on a modern Columbus and it took me a while to find it. Saying that......I find the manual "free form" entry of addresses does, in most cases, just work. I've been very surprised when I've just started typing in a street address and it has found it without issue.

Michelin or Goodyear - Summer Tyres
Is is still the Michelin's (SP4) that are considered the best of the tyres out there? I'm in need of a couple of tyres, my fronts are getting close to the legal limit now and one of my rears has uneven worn. Of course I'll be getting Hunter Aligned once tyres have been replaced. Current Costco Black Friday deals and I could get 4x Goodyear 225/35 ZR19 Eagle F1 SuperSport XL's fitted for £386.36 The same promotion on Michelin SP's would come in at around £150. Are the Michelin's worth £150 more?

Battery life for 2019 Octavia VRS
December 2017 vRS - 32K miles. Service last weekend, bought the print out from the battery test showing me that my battery had failed. I could quite believe it - my car rarely dropped into Stop/Start and when I sat in the car with music on, my dashcams were ****ting down due to low battery almost immediately. Was quoted similar for new one, said I'd look elsewhere. They said they had a "non-premium" battery they could supply and fit for around £200. Went to Halfords website, they would fit me one for about £150 - Dealership fitted whatever their "non premium" option was for the same price.

Personalised Plates... Cool, or Sad?
If a number plates needs any of the following so that it makes any sense at all: Strange Fonts Strategically placed bolts Mis-spacing Obvious Letter/Number replacement (Show plate purchased and you know it) Then the number plate is simply not cool, it's extremely sad, go get rid of it now.

Columbus Map Update 2022 (MIB1/2 HIGH)
I just can't get a good download on this - tried the direct link twice and the Skoda Portal twice. Each time while extracting I'm getting: File Header is corrupt Never had this issue before.

All-in from Skoda - 2 year service package
I guess it all depends on how you rate 3rd party warranties - after hearing horror story after horror story from a number of 3rd party companies, where claims are anything but simple - it makes life a lot easier if you've got "almost as good" as the original manufacturer warranty in place. I have an extended warranty in place and Skoda are quoting £443 just to renew that for a year (which would be year 4-5) where as this is £615 for years 4-6 (and then I can consider the services, MOT and Breakdown as additional services on top). I mean, I've not fully shopped around - but are 3rd party warranties offering the same level of cover for £307/year on a 4 and then a 5 year old car?

All-in from Skoda - 2 year service package
Just one of those 3 month bumps Took my car in this morning to have the eligibility check for this completed (amongst other things). All fine, however as I have an extended warranty in place until November 7th, I cannot sign-up until then. However - I was told by the manager of the branch that running through November there is going to be 20% off all these plans - that's going t take it down to £615. Monthlies of course will also drop to around £25.60 So maybe that will make it even more appealing to some. I was ready to bite at the full price, but even happier with these.

new E10 Fuel and Economy
Quick question - can anyone tell me what the Future of "Super Unleaded" is? I only use Super (Usually Tesco Momentum) and I know at the moment it's still E5 - are the intentions to leave this be?

Skoda "All-in-one" Package
I'm just a tourist from the Octavia forums - but noticed there was talk of the "all-in" packages here. My Octy vRS hits 4yrs old this November and I'm looking into this potentially. I kind of like the idea of paying £32/month and know that everything is covered for the next couple of years. I don't know how long I'll keep the car, but I also liked the idea of doing the same in two years time and having manufacturers warranty on a 7/8 year old vehicle! It looks like there is money to be saved if you get services here, a warranty there, breakdown somewhere else - but can really see the benefit of everything being under the one "Skoda" roof.

Skoda all-in
Debating it at the end of the year. Last December my car hit 3yrs old. I decided to pay for the Skoda extended warranty taking me into year 4. As I'm planning on keeping the car a little while yet, I think when I take my car in early for its MOT this year, I'll get them to do the "pre-purchase checks" required to get me onto the scheme. Like the idea of knowing that for Years 5 & 6 the car is just covered for warranty, breakdown, service and MOT.

Fold Passenger Seat Forward
Almost certainly - but then those cars from the early 80s would also probably fold you in half if you ended up in any kind of serious collision.

Skoda "All-in" Service/Warranty
Not specific to Octy 3's - but as I own one, it's where I shall post. In case anyone hasn't seen this yet, Skoda have now introduced an "All-in" Service/Warranty/MOT/Roadside Assistance package https://www.skoda.co.uk/owners/all-in-service-plan It's for cars aged 3 - 6yrs, so buying at 6yrs will cover your car up to 8yrs. 2 Services 2 MOT's 2 Years Roadside Assistance 2 Years Warranty £768 (£32/month) On cars up to and including 2.0L - you need to book your car in for a free eligibility check before you're able to take out the policy. Car mileage up to 100k at time of taking out the policy - so you could cover a 100k 6yr old car for the next two years for example.

Has anybody taken off the 2 chrome exhaust tips and sprayed them black?
Aye, it can be done - but be prepared for loss of knuckle skin, sanity & mind! Don't rush it, make sure all screws can be loosened before you really begin - nothing worse than getting all but one screw out and then finding that last one will not budge! Lots of lying on the ground, hands in tight spaces. Swearing is a must, hair loss to be expected.

Has anybody taken off the 2 chrome exhaust tips and sprayed them black?
Hi, I've just been out to the garage to check on the primer - no, I didn't use a heat proof primer. I think it is probably overkill having a heat resistant paint on the tips - sure, the actual exhaust gets warm, but I think on testing, these things barely seem to get very warm. The Halfords Engine paint was recommended by someone else who had done them and to be honest I have been happy with the result - but I suspect any black gloss for metal (and completing a number of coats) will be just fine.

Has anybody taken off the 2 chrome exhaust tips and sprayed them black?
I have, but it doesn't sound like I did as much preparation as you're planning on doing. Getting them off was a complete pain - I'm not going to lie, but I had grazed knuckles, shouting matches and a strop (at least once). Let me put it this way, they are back on the car now - they are never coming off the car again. I washed and cleaned them down - so no dirt or anything like that, I didn't however do any kind of sanding or rubbing. I was happy with the finish on them and was happy to go straight to primer and then paint. I just used a metal primer spray can on them, being careful to make sure it was an even finish, no pools of paint etc. I then used Halfords high temperature, gloss black engine paint (spray can again) and gave them a number of coats - ensuring each coat was nice and dry before I applied the next. Again, careful with the spraying, not rushing and making sure it was nice and even coats. I am more than happy with the result - they have been on the car for about 18 months now since the paint and they still look very black and glossy, no loss of colour etc.

Bag in coolant.
Not to come over sounding like a **** but of course Skoda are correct - there are not enough issues to warrant a recall. Just how many problems do you think there have been compared to the number of vehicles that went out with this configuration? You're making the usual mistake of assuming that the vocal make up a majority - they don't. Unless you've got some kind of data to indicate that the number of issues makes up even a single percentage, you'll find the number is extremely low. It's a mistake made on numerous forums for everything - if you believed Reddit for example, you'd believe that the vast majority of Playstation 5 consoles have a number of issues and that list of issues is an "arms length", Once you drill into the number of units in the wild and the number of people actually making the complaints, you drop down in to the realms of 0.1 / 0.2% I can guarantee you it is likewise here. Before we go down the "Yer, but my mate Dave has had an issue" and "When I spoke to my local garage they told me hundreds of people......." - no, these aren't statistics. This is hearsay at best, anecdotal. Now if you want to make the change then go for it. I've, out of interest, looked at my own setup and see there is a bag sandwiched between two plastic skins. I've not got any intention of changing that. Others will want to make the change, sure - nobody is going to tell you not to do that. But please don't start making it sound like every other car is going to start having issues and if you don't do it then it's just a matter of time before it all goes wrong - you're sounding like the TFSI issues with cam chains all over again, that too did not effect more than a handful of vocal people.

SSD Info
I have a 64GB and I know of people using 128GB. There is apparently a limit on the number of files that the units can see - so irrespective of size, if your track count reaches a certain point it can cause problems, but I think that is a high number.

Dash cam recommendations for those with DAB
Can't agree with that at all - I will admit that I listen to far more of my own music than I do radio, however when I do use radio the DAB signal is excellent, very rarely experience any kind of drop out. As far as Dashcams - I have a Thinkware F770 Front/Rear camera setup, hardwired. No issue at all with Dab signal.

LW radio?
I'm pretty sure the Mk3 has the ability for AM as standard - I know that I used VCDS to disable AM on my Columbus setup - so as someone above says, logically it is reverse the coding to get it back.

Auto lights high beam assist useless
Not an option on the Facelift.

Auto lights high beam assist useless
I've said it before, I emphasise the word "assist" when I'm using them on my car. I have the car as per signature and I coded in this feature - unlike earlier models, there is no separate "sensitivity" coding, so I'm stuck with the system "as is". It does work, it does do its job, however I never sit back and allow it to take over as I know that on a very long road it'll not pick up someone until they are closer, it'll miss something for whatever reason.

Columbus showing albums on SD card twice
I had issues with my albums after I'd been "adding to the card" for a while. So I'd ripped most of my albums and copied them to the card, then added a couple more now and again, then a couple more - eventually it's as if the index gets itself in a mess. I found that every six months I'd take the card out, format it and copy all my music back across as "one dump". Everything is fine once more, can add albums, still fine - but if it all gets messy again after I keep on adding - I'll do the same again.

Paint repair
I've just ordered some Chipex for a couple of small chips on the bonnet of my car. There is a 15% off code at the moment (15%SALE) - so still not cheap, but I only hear generally good things about the product.

New Key fob battery replacement not working?
Who would have thought changing batteries in a remote could cause so many problems I got the "Please replace battery" message on the dash yesterday. Ordered a pack of 2 Duracell 2025's from Amazon which should be here today. Really am hoping it's one in, one out - job done.
