  5. Mine came with Nexens too. Haven't tried them yet as am still on winters but I did read somewhere that they're not a bad tyre. I'm also not too worried about the non-main-brand summer tyres. All is not always as it seems in the tyre world. There are a number of manufacturers who allow third party companies to use their "big name" brand under licence, whilst the actual tyre quality is little different to that which the third party company might sell under their own label. It's quite possible that the very same (or very similar) "tyre recipe" is served up as both "Nexen" and "<insert big brand name here>". I'm trusting that Skoda has cut corners with the branding rather than the tyre quality.
  6. It is not so much a diesel engine that is unreliable, more so the technology used to control the emissions. EGR/DPF technology for diesel engines will become redundant in the future, it will be replaced by SCR. This means manufacturers will not invest a huge amount in developing these systems as they can already see end-of-life in the product life cycle. Over the last 10 days, I've tried lots of variations and combinations when switching off and parking: Foot on/off brake pedal when parking Waiting before keying off Returns to N, then back to P Starting out forwards before reversing So far, I've not noticed any pattern and the "clunk" still seems to happen randomly when parked in +22°C (garage), -25°C (outside), with variations in between..

  12. Heo Gromle! I have the same model, in a similar climate. 1. I came to the conclusion that the Scout isn't worth the extra, simply for some extra trim and a grab handle for the passenger. 2. Petrol is a good choice. The world was sold a big lie on diesel (especially with a DPF, reconsider once SCR is normal on cars). Unless you're pumping out lots of km on motorways, the hassle of the regen system coupled with higher repair costs are not worth it IMO. It's also nicer that a cold petrol car warms up quicker in our type of climate. 3. Options: rough road package (Northern Norwegian roads, say no more ), Canton (IMO it's really quite good sound), spare wheel (we need to be able to look after ourselves up here), folding mirrors (if you have a garage), tow hook (if you need to transport your own heating wood), Xenon lights (they are good), daytime driving LEDs (because it saves your 500€-per bulb Xenons during the light summer), Radio controls on steering wheel (so you can watch for reindeer and moose rather than the volume dial on the dashboard) The only negative so far is that the brakes seem to stick to the discs, whether in cold outside or warm garage, leading to a clunk/dong when moving off (see my posts for further details and helpful replies from Briskodians.)
  13. Maybe you've indirectly proved the point You're annoyed that Skoda continually fail to "at least give them the opportunity to see what updates are available.". But you've still bought three cars from them. Maybe Skoda think there's little point investing time and money in "communicating updates", because the lack of such a service doesn't have much impact on their sales figures.

  15. Thanks very much for the helpful replies I think it could be Jose's comment about having my foot on the brake when keying off, will now try keying off without foot on brake.. I usually engage R and then wait for it to move itself. Yesterday when it was cold, I engaged R and waited, nothing happened, I thought I might have made a mistake and missed R, so I went back to P for a few seconds and then back to R, again nothing, even after a few seconds. Only after some throttle pedal did the car move. It really is very odd. Luckily all my parking is on flat and level surfaces, so P only should be ok.
  16. Situation: Sometimes when reversing out of a warm garage, it feels like the brake calipers are somehow "stuck on". When I engage reverse and apply some throttle pedal, there is a small "dung" before the car starts to roll. This evening, leaving work, it was about -17°C and when I tried to reverse it felt like the brakes were frozen on to the discs. It took quite a lot of throttle pedal before there was a bang and the car started to move. It wasn't a small bang either... We don't use handbrakes here during the winter (the normal SOP is to park in gear rather than neutral). This usually avoids the problem. But does anyone know what might be causing this problem? Does the "Park" position also engage brakes? Unfortunately it is not possible to remove the key unless the lever is placed in Park, so I'm at loss for a solution. Briskodians (especially those in cold places) - Help!

  18. Can I ask what sort of mount you used for your mobius? Was something different to the suction cup mount? I'm looking for a different mount, as the suction cup mount doesn't survive our extreme temperatures :(
  19. A bit OT, but have you tried rooting it and loading up an earlier Android version?
  20. From my limited knowledge, I think it shouldn't be too difficult to do. I'm sure Skoda have thought about it at some point. Their business managers will also have asked the question, "what's in it for us? Will the investment in time, people and money give us some cash return". If the only benefit for them happens to be, "making a few enthusiasts on Briskodia happy", then the idea will get booted out. Companies are there to make money. Sometimes they even manage to show an interest in "customer satisfaction", but only if the result of that satisfaction is making more money. The prime purpose of a corporation isn't to stroke the hair of the customer (hairdressers and Indian head massages excepted ), or make them feel valued or loved, or to bull up their ego, or the make them "feel like a king" as Keith quoted above. These things might happen along the way but the main aim is making money I'm not saying I agree with the hard-nosed way of doing business but it is certainly the main explanation for any one of a million different grumbles that customers might have about cars (be it product- or service-related)

I agree, if there's a serious CRITICAL issue, then of course this should be pushed out as quickly as possible. From what I know of the vehicle industry, these updates are handled by dealers, on the basis that there isn't an army of engineers ready to be deployed around the country to do the updates. They would need recruiting, training, equipping with hardware and cars, and once the job was done, sacking. The ideal solution would be calling in an experienced agency to do the job.   23. This is useful info I found the Mk2 seat awfully unfortable, especially on the lower back. It felt like you were sitting "on it" rather than "in it". The Mk3 seats seem much more supportive. They're not perfect but they are definitely better. I'm 190cm and 87Kg.
  24. The only time I make sure I have cash available is when visiting the UK or France. Maybe Skoda are ahead of the curve by being prepared for its retirement
