  1. A quiet 6 speed box is more the exception rather than the rule. Faint whine on over run is common, as is slight rumble from the first motion shaft after 30,000 miles. The bearings are strong, and seldom break up, in fact in some cases, they go quiet again and never give any further problems. Drive more, worry less.
  2. If it sounds like those videos it's fine. PD130 always did sound like a tractor especially when cold. Let it warm up with a good drive, park up and open the bonnet and turn the aircon on, bet it sounds sweet as a nut mate. Oil in front of rocker cover I would expect this after a top end rebuild. Quite a bit drips out when the rocker cover is removed. Pretty sure the jobs a goodun, time to enjoy the car again. For extra peace of mind, if you have VAGCOM/VCDS, check the syncro angle with the car fully warmed up. Spec is +/- 2 degrees, but usually sits at about -.5 a good reading just confirms the timing belt and sprockets are all lined up correctly. Mind you, hard to get it wrong with the correct locking tools.
  3. Cam journals could be machined up and smaller shell bearings fitted. Camshaft lobes are a bit tricky on a diesel, as the valve timing is crucial. Mind you I reckon that camshaft would clean up with Moly paste and a rag. Not really worth the time and effort though, as new cams are not that expensive as you most likely know. Where you getting any tappet noise before you changed it? or was it simply replaced as it was looking slightly worn?
  4. If VW were looking at those lifters, they would say they are in first class nick. They even allow for small cracks in them, as long as they are not leaking oil. Mind you, the pictures I've seen from VW of so called OK lifters, were a joke. What they could get away with to save money in warranty claims springs to mind. Given how narrow the valve cams are on those camshafts, I'm surprised your lifters look that good after 128K miles. IIRC it was the PD150 engines that had a fair few cam and lifter failures early on. Now did anyone number the old lifters as they were removed? I reckon that cam is good for a fair few miles yet
  5. Thanks you sir. Made more sense to keep it, if only for the fact you can fix it with either a hammer, or a bigger hammer, or bad language and a really big f**k off hammer.
  6. I was in west End Skoda today, and it was the 1.2 TSI I was looking at. Candy white, black wheels and roof, looked way better than the new VRS. It's 105 BHP as well, with 0-62 in 10.2 seconds, so not exactly fast, and not exactly slow either. Fuel economy figures were as good as the diesel! Thing is the VAT free offer ends December, and I have to wait for a fixed term bond to mature in May next year. So that adds 3k to the price. Car I liked was £11995 OTR. Doing low miles lately since retiring, so a diesel doesn't make much sense for me.
  7. 5K will get you a decent VRS, but make sure it has FSH and that 505.01 oil has been used at every service. A lot of these cars have been modified, some well done, some very badly done. Remember the insurance loading if you buy one that's been modified heavily.
  8. Check the connector to the oil pressure switch, any oil on the connector and the switch is faulty. Switches sometimes fail without leaking, so new switch is first thing to try. After that, ECU connector, and or fuel pump relay.
  9. Just checking in people. Got slightly diverted from cars due to The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim So Moggy news update. Had to avoid a learner going sideways in the snow in a narrow street, decided the kerb was the lesser of two evils. So new alloy and tyre paid for by the driving instructor, no suspension damage, and had the damaged wheel refurbed for £48 and the tyre from the steel spare swapped over, so five alloys for the VRS now. Very tempted to buy a Monty Carlo in white with black roof and alloys. West End have a zero VAT offer on, but the VRS is going like a rocket, and put a huge smile on my miserable chops when I went for a blast today. Traveller is tucked up in bed for the winter, God that car has a sweet engine, pity it only sticks out 50 BHP So that's about it, still here, just playing hours of Skyrim, as it's infinitely more interesting than my normal life.
  10. The bits you have fitted are quality parts, aka not from Wongs House of Wares on e-bay Now the bad news, there's nout wrong with that old camshaft and lifters that I can see, not given the miles it has done anyway. When they are gone, the chamfer at the edge of each valve cam lobe is worn away, and the lifters have holes in the top face. Bearings show wear right across, and edges are often destroyed due to camshaft 'cocking' (oh er misses). Still jobs done, and hopefully all will be smell free and quiet in no time.
  11. It's a pretty strong box, and likely to go past 250K noisy bearing or not. It's a 3 shaft box so more bearing to go noisy.
  12. Can't find one either. Plus the link to Skoda Workshop manuals is broken.
  13. Fuel feed hose and it's connected to the tandem pump. It's a dual function pump, low pressure fuel delivery, and vacuum for the brake servo. Repair looks fine, as all the high pressure stuff goes on inside each PD injector.
  14. I suspect they have probably failed to seal the rocker cover properly. No oil lines need to come off to do the job, so it's all I can think of at the moment. I trust all the bits where OEM and not pattern parts? The new bucket tappets should be case hardened black steel. The 1.9 TDI PD top end is my least favorite part of an otherwise excellent engine. The valve cams are too narrow, to accommodate the injector rocker cams, and the oil feed to the shells could have been designed better. That said, your old camshaft aint that bad for 128K
  15. Input shaft bearings in gearbox. Release bearing that have gone are only noisy with clutch depressed. Gearbox oil change may help, but the box could do many more miles if the noise is only a faint whine. DMF symptoms sounds like someone trying to get out of hell with a large hammer.
  16. You need to have someone push the seat backwards while you release the catch.
  17. What sort of mileage has the old camshaft done? Despite some copper lifting, the cam profiles still have the edge chamfer, and the bucket tappets look pretty normal for an engine that has covered about 80K ? As for your burning oil smell and new noises, play it safe and call the garage to arrange an inspection. Oil smell us usually spilled oil on the manifold, but should burn off in a few minutes. You may find the tappets are silent after sitting for 24 hours or over night.
  18. I will lend you the Moggy Traveller for a week, it goes backwards in a strong wind
  19. Over time yes, it will attack the rubber. AG vinyl and rubber care works well.
  20. Check the battery earth lead to inner wing first, and the large blade fuses on top of the battery for hairline cracks.
  21. Polish the headlights with Menzerna Power finish and a DA, the lenses get swirled with washing.
  22. They are based in India. Usual calls to me go like this. Caller: I am calling to inform you we have detected a problem with your windows Me: They are fine, double glazed Caller: No Windows on your PC Me: Really, I am a Microsoft master-tech who works for MI6 Would you care to explain further, while I arrange for a black helicopter to pay you a visit. Now F off to the paddy field and stick to doing what you do best.
  23. This game is HUGE. 331 locations discovered. I love the way they have done the cave systems. Some are just a small cavern with some loot. Others lead into massive underground cities built by the Dwemers. Best RPG ever IMHO.
  24. I'm mainly doing sneak archery. Glass Armour, Ebony Bow and Sword, with frost damage perk added to them. I just did the main story line as a member of Winterhold, but am now with the Companions, and a house in, er I forget the name of the town, This game is seriously messing with my sleep patterns... I went freelance right from the get go. Didn't join the Legion or Strom-cloak rebellion, as both leaders seemed to have serious attitude problems. 220 locations discovered and counting. Great game, in fact, best game I have ever played.
  25. That's why I'm not a great fan of the Steam System. Patches get applied automatically, and if my game isn't broken, I would rather avoid patches that often fix issues for some users, and create issues for others. I really like this game, it has massive atmosphere, and most of the discovered locations are huge. Seems to be loads of side quests as well.
