Ah, the same Newbury one that never managed to adjust my xenons right first time...
-
All I did was get in the car and try to start it :P - once that was fine, she was treated to an hour of charging by driving it around followed by being on the battery charger. All fine after that

I'll be round next week, save some I might allow myself a bar of choccy on the duty free on the way home

sound deadening and the standard stereo
WW_VRS replied to fabia55's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
The estate was soundproofed by Ross, and it is amazing how good it sounds for an OEM system now, it definitely makes it better, it can handle reasonable bass without rattle now. A small sub would help, true, but for OEM of that age car it is not bad at all. -
Got some comments in Dover - the customs officer noticed the xenons and the front of the car, and asked, is this a vRS, didn't know they did an estate hehehe - was good that one

Fabia vRS Brakes - Decision Needed This Weekend
WW_VRS replied to MagicBlack's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
312 all the way - better feel, better feedback, better control, last longer, look OEM, and fit under stock and larger wheels -
Never heard of her, easy on the eye she is, admittedly

Holland's VAT rate was 17.5% for absolutely ages, not sure what it is now but it is higher too :(

Internet Explorer connection help needed (XP)

ICS sets up 192.168.1.x as the range. I would set the router to use a different range if possible, say 192.168.2.x, if it supports it (a lot of routers do not). ICS is inflexible, and IMHO unless you're going to use it, turn it off as it does not do anything useful in that situation. -
Fabia Diagnostics Connector Pinout

I'm fairly sure it is a standard layout, it may be worth having a read on the VCDS/vagcom site for a bit more info. As you dont have the licensed cable you may not be able to use their software, or only the shareware version. -
Good luck with that, sounds like a nightmare :(

OMFG! This is horrific! (not for the squeemish)

One of the people I know on facebook got hung up on a couple of hooks for a day, just two hooks. looked kinda freaky too. It was something she wanted to do, must admit that was about as much as I could take though. Each to their own, but these pics aren't gonna get me interested in doing anything like that anytime soon  -
As I'm borrowing her for a week and a bit, as part of an arrangement it won't be about for this one soz. Don't worry, I'm very sure the estate will make an appearance at some stage in the near future Definitely will enjoy it

Hibernate causes allsorts of problems, and some routers just dont play nice in that situation. One I know for a fact to misbehave is LinkSys, in particular if the lease expires at the router end before booting up the machine that had that IP before. -
First a scrappage scheme, now an Electric Car Subsidy
WW_VRS replied to anewman's topic in General Automotive Chat
Totally true - more likely hybrid technology will be used for quite some time. The idea of making 'something' that charges the battery system and use electrical power to actually provide propulsion and all the other stuff, apart from the losses of twin energy conversion, is probably a reasonably good idea. A fuel cell, small petrol or derv engine, solar and/or charging station of some kind could all potentially be used in that context. I have a feeling different solutions will be tried out and something interesting/decent will eventually come out of it -

I don't know how cost-effective that solution would be as compared to the alternatives, but definitely if it is/could be, then I would agree this should be looked at too. The only thing is, wouldn't the HC fuel cause CO2 again? -

Unfortunately 'The Estate' can't make it as I'm out of the country only to return on the Sunday (French fishermen strikes permitting) to hand her back to Ross again on Monday evening. Somehow I'm quite sure Ross will have a few shows to go to this year -
F1 - diffuser ruling to be decided today [tuesday]

Unfortunately, you're right I think (in that they're inconsistent) and I just wish they'd change on that and just do what they are meant to do. I guess the rules are tricky, but then thankfully I don't need to know every detail of those rules -
Needs must and all that, suffice to say there was a choice to be made and this way it is going to someone who has not only done an ace job to get the estate into this shape, but also appreciates the result and will give it a good home. The quality of the work means it is a top advert for Unit 18 and Ross' way of working. It is a darn shame I had to let her go, that is for sure.

Tremendous horrible noise at the roundabout - what to do?

I had this happen to me once when I just had the car, and it sure shakes you up a tad It is incredibly loud isn't it -

WW_VRS replied to anewman's topic in General Automotive Chat
The key points are getting the infrastructure improved for electrical supply. Not only is this needed for 'electric cars' but in general, the UK is stretched rather a lot on that front (and is not alone in this). Investment in those areas will be very worthwhile for the country as a whole, and hopefully ensure a reliable supply for the future. Alternative ways of generating electricity will become more economically viable if the demand is there, plus you get the economy of scale involved -
In the UK, thinking back, all my cars have been hatchbacks, except for the estate and I had a Renault 21 which was a sedan. Boot space was excellent in that one.
