  1. There's no getting away from the fun a big engine can bring but nothings for nothing. I run a 4.6 supercharged MGZT and love even turning the key, but its always tempered with a need to extract value for money and that costs. So if you don't do big miles or can do the mundane one's in something else get one. Life is short and as Peter Griffen said" I could have had a V8". Having run a V6 they are a sweet sound and I whole heartedly recommend this before all that is left requires lithium or some other ****. Steve
  2. I know its not the same car but I ran a ZX 1.4 to 236k no faults no leaks and cheap to run. It was also a great car to drive. As for what I would choose I will get back to you. I have only driven the Skoda VRS in this collection. So the first thing I would do is drive them all. Steve.
  3. What did you have to do? as I have one and the local garage has never charged heavy or said they were a pain to work on. Steve.
  4. I travel 500 miles plus each week so I have been able to compare various makes of diesel and in my Fiesta Sport Van 1.6 TDCi the best fuel of late has been the standard shell diesel. The van is nippier and more economical on standard than the more expensive stuff. Steve.
  5. Indeed welcome, nice speaking to you at work the other day. Hope to see you on future runs. Steve.
  6. Get them posted soon please, I need to see. Steve.
  7. Great drive out, sorry to all who headed north up the M6 when I left for fuel. Nice mix of cars, great roads. Next time I must fill up before the start. That was 3/4 of a tank full of fun. Steve.
  8. Never tried daisy on carpets. I found out about daisy on the detailing world forum have a look there. There are sure to be someone there with a head up on daisy and carpets. Steve.
  9. I sound proofed a Citroen ZX, I bought the kit from a exchange and mart long before the internet became what it is now. The kit cost around £100 and contained a two layer floor kit, under bonnet and door panel inserts. It took me a whole day to fit including the removal of seats and carpets and there re-fitting. The sound levels were greatly reduced and the overall stance of the car was a little lower, the kit weighed 45kg. This gave the car a more potent stance which I liked. It was not to hard just hard work!!!!! Steve.
  10. Look along the cleaning product row, you know fairy etc.
  11. Save yourself some money and get some daisy APC from tesco. Twice as much for a tenth of the price. Use neat on wheels with about 1 minute dwell time, anywhere else dilute. Steve.
  12. Only if you record a little more this time. I am one of the few who never get to here the car roar!!!! Steve.
  13. Put me down I must make this one, enjoyed the last lots. Steve.
  14. Depending on how much of a clean is needed will lead you to whether you need something as potent as wonder wheels etc. Me I use tescos daisy APC in an old spray bottle. Used neat, leave only 30secs then agitate with a brush then rinse. This will clean all but the worst and I do this every wash. Do not use WW frequently once or twice a year max as it will dull the alloys and eventually damage the wheel. Some pics of my cars the van has about 35k on the clock when the pics were taken. http://img185.imageshack.us/g/img1401gd.jpg/
  15. No but the police charged me but the CPS dropped the case after we pointed to some obvious evidence on the photo's. The lad lived due to the fantastic efforts of the fire crews and paramedics. I wish him all the best as I know what happened, most have done what he did on here. I can't say any more on an open forum. As for the stiff suspension there are two type's. My cdti had the softer and in my opinion the better set up over the firmer one as fitted to all V8. The buyer had the option but the default is the softer. Steve.
  16. Can't say on an open forum but the police charged me. It went to court and it was through out when we used the evidence on the photo's supplied by the CPS. The lad lived but but only due to the fantastic efforts of fire crew and the paramedics. As far as I am aware he now helps by giving talks to schools on the dangers present when driving. I wish him all the best. Steve.
  17. Looks ok so I would have a look. This is the general things to look for lifted from the MG/Rover forums. Cambelt change best left to the experts . Unless you've got the right tools you wont get it done. The cheapest garage i know, is Lates in coventry... £600 quid. These must be done at 90,000 miles or 6 yrs, so if you leave it and its snaps, it's a write off. Oil fully synthetic 10/40 is advised in the manual. Suspension springs can snap also. Cost around £80 quid to buy and then there's the cost of labour. Coolant should be 50:50 OAT Fit an oil catch tank to prevent oil blockages. There's plenty of threads on that. My own take is check the springs the later models have upgraded springs which are sound. Look around the last full coil at the tops thats where they go. Other things are rattles in the front doors but there is a thread on them easy fix. And if you buy watch the tracking on the front tyres if you take a heavy hit. Remember they are a big car and you will at best get 28mpg and cars on a 06 plate will be dearer to tax. The cars are fantastic to drive and you will be impressed with the handling and ride, a hard combination to find on a car. Once on the move they are pretty swift beasts. As Tiff said two thirds of a M3 at half the price!!!. Now they are really a steal if you get the right one . I am now on my third 75/ZT. The first was a 2.5 auto 75 did 77k then it saved my life 80-100 head on this was the best car to get from lands end to john o'groats with magic carpet ride. http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/7630/scan0009kkg.jpg Then I ran a ZT CDTi running around 170bhp with mods and ran to 178k no problems until I miss fuel the car. They are reliable so long as you stay away of the 1.8 versions. Steve
  18. .Little know fact the 150bhp 1.8 engine is actually 2.0 and can be mapped to 240bhp. One of the biggest jumps for the cash. Brother has one but has no interest in turning the wick up. Oh and the seats are among the best I have rested my a**e on.
  19. Bought one much better than the Karcher I had before. Also no need for a separate snow foam lance the bottle supplied is fantastic wish I had bought one long ago. Steve
  20. Interested may try and make this one after missing the last Cumbria run out. Don't know what to turn up in may bring the V8. What about a convoy from Rheged for the cumbria team? Steve.
  21. Well done that man, you only live once. I drive a MGZT V8 Supercharged. Again limited mileage and big smiles. And for the eco's out there I also have a fiesta 1.6 tdci, fun but not in the same league. Enjoy it and tell the grand kids how you saved the planet from freezing over!!!! Steve.
  22. Glad to see you all had a great day out. I was gutted I had to miss this as we had already tied up to do the Trough of Borland run with northern mini. We had a great day also but we looked a bit out of place in my Fiesta Van. The wife would not let me and the lad Andy have her mini, she loves it too much for me to flog it. The MG is still up in Scotland all mechanical work complete but the map module was faulty so no V8 burble till this weekend fingers crossed. I will hold on to the mini route if anyone would like a nice pre-planned route for future runs. Steve.
  23. Just talked my father into a new Panda £4995 + £200 for black paint under the scrappage scheme. I hope he has as much luck or more. Traded in a 96 micra, still running sweet but rust has taken its toll. Steve.
