  1. When i bought my Karoq just over a year ago, I asked the dealer about how long I would have to keep up the HP (which I didn't really want) payments to get 2 free services (which I did want). They told me a minimum of 6 months but I knew they were lying. I phoned Skoda Financial Services who told me I could cancel the agreement within a day or two of taking it out and could keep the free services. This is what I did and I paid a couple of pounds in interest. I appreciate your circumstances are different but the lesson is ask the people who know and not your dealer. They obviously will be worse off in some way so have no incentive to give you correct financial information.
  2. Rod. I fully agree with your comments regarding the technology, particularly the data use message. It, and others that I have seen on my car may well have been written in a foreign language as far as I am concerned as they mean absolutely nothing to me. Like you, I just want to get in the car and drive to where I want to go without all of this nonsense.
  3. I've had Skodas of one kind or another since 2009 and have always been happy with them. I changed from an Octavia MK3 to a Karoq a year ago. Car was a year old when I bought it. It's a Karoq SE Drive with the 1.0 litre engine. I'm in my seventies now so don't do as much motorway driving as when I was working. That said, the car will easily cruise at 70mph when I do go on the motorway. I find the Karoq an easy car to live with. It's easy to get in and out of and is probably the most comfortable Skoda I have owned. It is big enough (but the boot isn't as big as the Octavia's). Like all modern cars, there's too much technology on it for me but I just use what I need and ignore the rest. I bought a spacesaver spare wheel as those gunge kits are a waste of time in my view. In short, it does the job for me and I am happy with the purchase. The problem with asking about different models of car is you will get loads of different answers and opinions. For me, I'd stick with what I know and feel comfortable with and would keep well away from the £40k road tax threshold. That's far too much to pay for any car in my opinion.
  4. I did the same with the aero wheel covers on my Karoq. I picked the car up in January 2024 when it was a year old with around 6,000 miles on the clock. The alloys were filthy and needed a good clean off the car. Luckily they were unmarked. Whoever in Skoda designed these wheel covers has never had to clean his own wheels and needs shooting. They are anything but practical and cover what is a nice alloy although there are far too many nooks and crannies on the alloys to clean and keep them looking good. A bit of common sense at the design stage and the needs of the user would go down well.
  5. I can't delete old destinations from the Sat Nav. Looking on this forum, it says you touch the destination you want to delete and swipe it to the left. A delete bin then appears and you click on this to do the deletion. The trouble is that when I touch the old destination, the sat nav thinks I want to go there and displays the route. Am I doing something wrong? Better still, is there another simpler way to delete the old destinations? Thanks.
  6. I think the clips just push into the holes around the edge of the bonnet, holding the sound deadening in place. If you have lost any clips, you can get them from your Skoda or VW dealer but they may need to order them in.
  7. I had judder in first gear on a new Fabia DSG with dry clutch a few years ago. The dealer dismissed it initially as 'they all do that' but I persevered and took it back whilst it was still under warranty. The afrersales manager drove the car with me in the passenger seat and agreed it wasn't right. He said it was either the clutch pack or the mechatronics unit. They replaced the clutch pack under warranty which fixed the problem. If it were me, I would take the car back to your main dealer and get them to drive it themselves with you in it whilst you still have warranty.
  8. I wish I had read this thread before ordering a rear wiper blade for my 2022 Karoq. The vast majority of on line sellers state the A 331H is the correct wiper but it is not. I ordered this and managed to get a refund from the seller but with some difficulty. I then went into my local independent motor factors who looked things up on their computer. They pulled off a picture of the correct blade (A335H) and checked it against the wiper fitted by Skoda. It is an exact fit and is much improved on the OEM part. So A335H is the correct wiper from around mid to late 2021 which is when the car was facelifted I believe. Part of the problem is that sellers quote a part number but show a picture of a different part. No wonder we all get confused.
  9. I have broken the parking ticket holder on my 2022 Karoq. I know it is screwed in behind the A pillar trim but don't want to chance breaking the trim when removing it without some knowledge of how it comes off. Does anyone know how to safely remove and re-fit the trim piece without damaging it and anything else into the bargain? Thank you.
  10. I fitted front and rear dashcams to my Karoq recently. Didn't need to remove the trim as I just pushed the cable into the roof lining at the rear. You probably need to pull the liner out of the rear door seal a little to get access. Should be simple enough though.
  11. Looks like you are missing the aero wheel trims as well. They come as standard but are not to everyone's tastes. I took them off my 2022 Karoq so the wheels look like yours in the picture. Maybe the previous owner removed them and didn't offer them back when they traded in.
  12. My son has a December 2017 Octavia S. We are looking at changing the front and rear brake pads. Can we simply wind the existing pads back into the brake caliper or do we need special software to wind them back electronically? Thank you.
  13. I had a 1.0 litre Octavia saloon. I genuinely think it was the best car I ever owned. Fast enough for me and would cruise at 70mph all day long. I swapped it in January for a 1.0 litre Karoq which is a heavier car. Again no problems with the engine but I am not a boy racer.
  14. I agree that Skoda have basically lost the plot with the price of their cars and what you get for your money. They had a reputation for value for money cars but that has gone out of the window now. After all, someone has to pay for their glass palace showrooms. Dacia and MG have taken over from Skoda in the value for money stakes. A poor state of affairs indeed.
  15. My son has a 2017 Octavia S with standard heating controls and air conditioning. The air conditioning isn't working on any of the blower settings nor does the engine tone change when he puts the car into reverse or presses the air recirculation button. Apart from the obvious re-gas solution (which may or may not work), is there anything we can check beforehand that could be the cause of the problem? Thanks.
  16. I had this happen to me in a pub car park reversing into a spot where the grass verge behind went up hill quite sharply. Frightening at the time but the car is simply doing what it should and preventing you reversing into something you shouldn't. I would leave it switched on if I were you. A good safety feature.
  17. Once out of warranty I serviced my (now traded in) Octavia 3 by buying genuine oil and filter and getting my local garage to do the necessary with them only because it's a bit of a messy job to do on my drive. I bought and fitted spark plugs, air filter and pollen filter myself. I kept the receipts and when I traded the car in, the fact I had done the work outside of Skoda dealerships made no difference to my trade in price. Dealers charge a fortune for routine service work and I have little confidence that they do what they should anyway. It's easy to see if the oil has been changed but without taking the car apart, it's very difficult to check everything else has been done.
  18. No torch in my 2022 SE Drive. Check to make sure you get the holders that fit on the back of the front seat headrests so rear passengers can put a tablet on them. Also the plastic things that velcro onto the boot floor to hold bits and pieces in place. I removed mine as I didn't need them but they should come with the car. I had the gunge kit but took it out and bought a spacesaver spare and jack. A full size spare wheel won't fit (too deep).
  19. Not had the Karoq that long so still getting used to it. One thing I have noticed is that if my windscreen wipers are set to intermittent and I turn the ignition off, the wipers park themselves as you would expect. When I return to the car and start it up, the wipers don't come on even though the stalk is still set to the intermittent position. I have to put the stalk into the off position then back into the intermittent position before the wipers will start. I didn't have this with my previous Fabias and Octavia so is it something peculiar to the Karoq? Or do I have a fault? By the way, the wipers are not set to come on automatically when it starts to rain and I don't have this problem when the wipers are set to continual wipe. Thanks.
  20. My son has a 2017 facelifted Octavia S. Yesterday we finally got round to looking at why the rear washer doesn't spray onto the rear screen (the rear wiper works fine). Following advice on this forum we removed the front nearside wheel and liner to expose the fluid bottle and pump. We disconnected the pipe from the pump to the rear washer and tested that the pump was working OK. It sprayed fluid from the pump fine so we reconnected the pipe. We then removed the nozzle from the rear washer/wiper and tested again but nothing came out although we could hear the pump working. There is clearly an obstruction somewhere in the pipework. We had a good look inside and underneath the car and in the boot to check for leaks but everything was dry. My questions are: Is there anything between the pump and the rear nozzle which could be broken e.g. a secondary pump or some kind of valve? If so where is it and how easy is it to get at? How is the pipework routed from the front to the back of the car and again how easy is it to get at? Is there a common spot where blockages could build up in the pipework and, if so, where is it? Has anybody any suggestions where we go from here as this may be an MOT failure (but not sure). Many thanks.
  21. Recent Karoq owner having come from an Octavia SE 2018 with a couple of questions: How do I stop the message about 'share my location' coming up every time I start the car? I know how to change it but can't find a way to stop it appearing in the first place. Also how do I delete the destination history from the sat nav? All help appreciated.
  22. I bought a 1.0 litre Karoq SE Drive manual mid January having traded in a 1.0 litre Octavia. The 1.0 litre engine is fine on both round town and longer distance journeys. Fuel consumption will be better than the 1.5 litre and insurance is cheaper too.
  23. I bought my Octavia SE 1.0 litre in August 2019 when it was coming up to a year old. I had to think long and hard before part exchanging it for a Karoq SE Drive a few weeks ago. The Karoq is also just over a year old. I have to say that the Octavia was probably the best car I have ever owned. I have had many Fords in the past. My previous 4 cars have been Fabias but for all round comfort, space, performance and reliability, the Octavia was the best (even with the 1.0 litre engine). My only problem was the rear washer kept getting bunged up but apart from that, no problems. Once the car was out of warranty I avoided main dealer servicing. My local independent did the oil and filter changes with me providing the genuine VW spec oil. As part of the trade in deal, I removed the full size spare wheel and toolkit with the intention of putting it into the Karoq or selling it (I thought it might not fit which it doesn't). I'll put it on ebay in the next few days. I bought a skinny spare and tools which fit the Karoq perfectly. A gunge kit is little more than useless in my opinion. So far the Karoq has been fine. Getting in and out is much easier than the Octavia but you would expect that. The Karoq forum has answered a few queries I had, how the automatic handbrake works being the most important. I'll keep an eye on the Octavia forum in case I am able to contribute to the discussions. Thank you.
  24. Had my Karoq a few weeks now having come from an Octavia with a manual handbrake (you knew where you stood with that). The above explanation of how the automatic handbrake and autohold work and differ from each other has cleared up some confusion in my mind. So thank you for that.
  25. Pinkpanther. Thank you. I managed to find the 4 different privacy settings but whichever I choose, I keep getting a warning message telling me which setting I have selected when I start the car. It is this warning message I want to get rid of as it is annoying. Does anyone know if the message can be disabled and, if so, how? Thank you.
