  1. Don't be pressurised by the dealer stating that you need to buy by a particular day. The truth is that dealers have sold next to nothing in the past 4 or 5 months so it is a buyers market, not a sellers market. Make them wait until you are ready and if they won't honour their quoted price, walk away. Remember there are more cars than there are buyers.
  2. My previous car was a Fabia 1.2 TSI DSG so different engine but same gearbox. I never had a problem putting the gear selector into neutral at any time and never had any such warnings on the MFD. Your grandad should press ahead with his rejection action. To be honest, I wouldn't have accepted the car in the first place if it was scratched. There is far too much 'fobbing off' by car dealers in general and this seems to be becoming more common with Skoda dealers. But at the end of the day, customers will vote with their feet and buy elsewhere if they can find a dealer with a good reputation (there are still some around).
  3. Skoda have stopped putting the sticker with the various codes in the spare wheel well and handbook. My Octavia is September 2018 and doesn't have the sticker either. I therefore asked my dealer for a printout of the applicable codes which they readily provided on an A4 printout which also has a plain english explanation of what the codes mean. I would ask your dealer for the printout for your car.
  4. Same thing happens on mine but the clock sorts itself out when I next turn on the ignition. My son, who also has an Octavia, has exactly the same problem. I wouldn't risk any kind of update as you don't know what won't work afterwards.
  5. Fully agree with Warrior193. The air filter housing could easily have the 2 screws which are presently on the underside accessible from the top. Also why would you think to remove it from the car when there are the 4 clips? Surely any right minded person would simply undo the clips thinking that was all that was needed.
  6. Have had a Fabia with the 1.2 105PS (I think) engine and an Octavia with the 1.0 110PS (I think). Give me the 1.0 litre engine anytime.
  7. I noticed this morning that the car kept telling me to change down a gear unnecessarily. For instance, I was driving at 35mph on a level road in 5th and it was telling me to change down to 4th. As I was driving onto our estate doing about 15mph in second gear, it was telling me to change down to 1st. As I pulled onto the drive, I noticed it was idling just under 1500 RPM despite the engine being hot. The temperature gauge was reading a steady 90. I switched off and on again but it was the same. I guess both of these things are related. Anyone any idea what the problem could be? I am under warranty but want to avoid a trip to the dealer if possible as I am in the 'at risk' group for going out. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  8. I have a facelifted 2018 Octavia and I noticed last night that the rear washer wasn't working although I could hear the motor running. I checked it again this morning with the same result. But later in the day when I checked it again, the jet was spraying fluid from the bottom of the 2 slots on the wiper arm but not from the top slot. This isn't due to the jet freezing as the weather last night wasn't particularly cold. I am guessing that the jet in the top slot is blocked and the problem isn't due to a disconnected pipe as the spare wheel well is dry and the jet in the bottom slot is working anyway. My question is what is the best way to try to clear the jet in the top slot please? I am still under warranty but don't want to waste a full day whilst the dealer looks at this. By the way, I have always used VAG screenwash at 50% washer fluid and 50% water. Many thanks.
  9. I have a 2015 Fabia SE L DSG at the moment which comes with cruise control and a speed limiter as standard. I am thinking of changing the Fabia for an Octavia. The one I have seen and test driven is 18 reg (May 2018) SE spec with a 1.0 litre petrol engine which is fast enough for me. I understand the Octavia SE has cruise control but don't know if it comes with a speed limiter. Advice on this (and anything else that may be relevant) from owners on this forum will be welcomed. Many thanks.
