  1. Hi, I think the order for a decent detail should be roughly as follows but I'm no expert; Snowfoam (if you have the facility) Rinse Wash Rinse Dry (with a towel rather than chamois preferably - look at kent drying towels, very cheap and recommended by most people in the know) Clay (Bilt hamber clay is good/cheap and only needs water as a lube) (Possible wash/rinse/dry again after clay?) Polish Glaze (if you want to) Wax A lot of people recommend poorboys products or dodo juice products. The best place to research and answer all your questions is Detailingworld forums... some people on there amaze me with there extensive knowledge. Once I have some spare cash I think i'll get some poorboys blackhole glaze and some collinite 476 wax. At present I just use Autoglym SRP and turtlewax precision wax. Regards Marc
  2. If I had the money, obviouslyI would consider more expensive recommended brands, but unfortunately I don't - so I had to go for the best I could afford. I believe Autoexpress did a test including them with quite a comprehensive overviews. I had some Nexens on before and they wore very quickly, as they seem to be very soft (again very budget). I understand that you wouldn't want to use them, but I aimed the thread at people that are strapped for cash. Regards Marc
  3. With regards to the comment re their performance in the wet I cannot obviously comment personally, but doing a search on briskoda, and elsewehere they seem to be rated well. There's a few brisk members recommending them Each to their own obviously. Thanks Marc
  4. I know that its a popular subject to determine which are good tyres, but I am just recommending a price. It's unlikely you'd get the ones listed about as cheap - well I certainly couldn't. Have you ran Barums? Thanks Marc
  5. Hi All, Just a heads up really... may not be usefull to anyone but hey ho! I needed 2 front tyres for my VRS and after ringing around for some cheapos I found that National Tyres are doing buy one get on half price on certain tyres. Ended up getting 2 x Barum Bravuris 2's for £115 fitted (205/45/16) which I thought was a decent price for what's classed as a mid range tyre rather than a china special budget. They seem to get good reviews from what I have read (Barum are owned by Conti). Obviously I can't comment on how good they are just yet with them being fresh on. Sorry if this is already known. Obviously not to everyones taste as a lot of people's views are you pay for quality but if you're extremely skint (like me) they may be worth a punt. Marc
  6. I probably will do to be fair... courtesy car too (reckon I could blag a VRS??). I was just worried that the service cost may be wrong and I wasn't getting the correct thing. Cheers Marc
  7. Hi All, Just scouting round for service and cambelt costs, and have been quoted £85.47 from skoda in Warrington for a standard 10k service on my VRS. Does this seem too cheap too anyone else?? Im not complaining but I just don't want any nasty surprises. I also got them down to £370 for cambelt and water pump... does this seem reasonable? My local VW specialist wants £350 max but the service cost is £147 from him (hence my surprise at Skoda's cost). Skoda only want £20 for an MOT too which is good. I'll probably go with the dealers if this service cost seems right. What do you reckon?? Cheers Marc
  8. Everyday driving I get 45-50mpg, on a long run I get closer to 55mpg. Mines bog standard. Marc
  9. Welcome I'm from Warrington too... i'll keep my eyes peeled for you. I have a 55 plate black magic Fab VRS with LCR splitter and briskoda sticker in the rear window. Marc

  11. I only took the Fabia badge off last week after having the car just over a year... and I agree trying to get between the Fabia letters is a pain when cleaning! Came off easy. I first heated it up slightly with a hair drier to soften the glue. Then i put a strip of wide masking tape above the top of the letters to avoid any scratches. With an old credit card or similar (I used my ikea family card!) slide down the back of the letters gently between the badge and the glue, they should come off relatively easy with a bit of gentle persuation (I did find the card a bit thick to get behind the edge of some letters so used a knife to lift the edge of the letter slightly, but be very careful obviously if you do this... you should be fine though if its between the glue and badge just don't be tempted to use the knife for the whole job!). You will be left with some glue on the car, to get rid of this I just used a rag with a bit of petrol on (I'm sure white spirit or something would do a similar job). Once all the glue is off you will probably have a bit of ghosting from where the badge has been and the paint has changed - just use some T-Cut colourfast on it to bring it back to life and jobs a goodun. Literally a 10 minute job. Thanks again for the nice comments Marc
  12. I currently use Autoglym Super Resin polish, followed by a layer of Turtle Wax Platinum Series Precision Car Wax - both relatively cheap, easy to apply and buff off. I'd say to always wax after the polish as they have minor cutting compounds in as far as I know, and the wax will protect it. Just the wax on it's own though gives a pretty good shine. I'm no detailer as I don't have the patience so this is just going off own experience Marc
  13. I'll give that a go before spending money on autosol as i'm skint! Cheers Marc
  14. The new scirrocos sometimes wear very similar turbine style wheels, they'd look pretty decent too. Marc
  15. I just sprayed some wheel cleaner on it yesterday, although in the past when it's been really bad I have used a bit of oven cleaner - that works a treat ha ha. I keep meaning to buy some Autosol to finish it off properly as there are still a few stubborn marks. Thanks for your kind comments guys Marc
  16. Thought i'd post a few pics of my baby looking quite clean as i've not really put any up I don't think since being on here - not the best of pics of a phone but you get the idea. Pretty standard apart from the LCR splitter... I wish I had the cash to do more!! Sorry if there's a specific place for these... Marc
  17. I went for a nosey a couple of weeks ago and the guy come over chatting to me as he saw me pull up in my VRS. They had a new Fabia VRS in white which he said they were getting stickered up a bit like a rally rep. I think they've had it done now as there's a pic of one in the Warrington Guardian on an ad but not seen it in the flesh since its been done. Sales guy was friendly enough Marc
  18. I have a very similar problem, although mine seems to do it even in a straight line. I have it from the o/s/f wheel and it seems to stop when i touch the brakes regardless of speed, and it's also intermittant, can go for miles without it. It's a bit like brake squeal but when the brakes are not on, the opposite way round if you know what I mean.... anyone any ideas? Sorry to hijack a thread but I thought it was similar. Marc
  19. I find that mine squeek a bit, and the drivers side doesn't site completely flush with the screen so misses a bit - I have tried bending it back with no great affect. Also the connectors on Tesco's are huge! I'll be paying a bit more next time for some that are a bit more aesthetically pleasing Marc
  20. My girlfrirends mum has a new 3 Series BMW at the moment as a hire car while hers is in for a repair - and I noticed that it is £30 for the year due to low emmisions... on a 2.0 diesel!! I know some of the new small diesels are cheap tax, but that surprised me! Marc
  21. I had this problem once on mine, did a search on here and someone advised just to remove the fuse for the stereo from the main fuse box and then put it back in. Worked a treat for me. Can't remember which number fuse it was but your handbook should identify it. Saves messing around taking the head unit out.
  22. Here's a few more of mine after a quick wash at the weekend, LCR splitter added since my last pics Marc
  23. If they are screwed on are they likely to bend/deform from the pressure of the screws? I didn't know if a holder was required for these or not? Marc
  24. Hi sorry to resurrect an old thread.. but just been bought the splitter for my birthday of the missus and gonna try and fit it asap. Is it best to start screwing it in from the middle working outwords.. or start at one end? Is it gonna be a major headache to do without jacking the car up or getting it on the ramps? Just gon't wanna mess up my first mod!! Cheers Marc
  25. Pretty much all sorted through Sarah Only saves me about £50 compared to Skoda as they were chucking an MOT in for free... but £50 is a lot of cash to me at the moment!!! Thanks everyone. Marc
