  1. spoke to race tune in Slough today - inquired about a remap on a Superb 1.9TDi PD130 - if you make a booking this month i.e. book it in before end of August they'll remap for £245 inc VAT. Presume that applies to other models They would expect 170bhp and 380 lb/ft Original map is kept on their servers and also remotely, so in the event you don't like it it can be reverted back to as was. Invisible to dealers apparently Good deal me thinks:thumbup:
  2. Updated the list. Wanted to keep the Fab until it'd done 200K but fancy a cheap Superb. 3. My X plate Fabia TDi estate is now up to 193K - original clutch, still returning high 50's to the gallon, all I do is dump the oil every 10K and replace with the cheapest I can lay my hands on. :thumbup:The paint's still brilliant and cleans up like new...........
  4. I had the Golf GT Tdi 115 as well from brand new and for the last 80K of ownership used non-branded mineral oil...... never a problem. I did however use the proper gear in my Octavia vRS. My dad and stepmother each drive Fabia vRS's and they get their fed branded VW/Audi/Skoda/SEAT gear. The Fabia Estate Tdi 100 is the workhorse of the family, it's currently running oil from a black 5 litre bottle with a orange sticker, it's simply called "Motor Oil". I think it's from PoundStretcher. (seriously!) Strangely I'm incredibly picky about what oil I use in motorcycles:P !
  5. I'm up near the top with 159,678 on a 2000 model Fabia 1.9TDi comfort estate Still pulls like a goodun, averages 53 to the gallon and has always been fed the cheapest of the cheap unbranded engine oil. This PD specific stuff is a ripoff!
  6. You won't believe what this turned out to be! Suddenly things got REALLY bad, it stalled in traffic and took 30 seconds to restart, then the following morning an absolutely horrendous noise at tick over. I popped the bonnet and started it again then immediately shut it down. Ripped off the cambelt cover and the fookin' thing was so loose that I could pull it sideways off of the top pulley by hand. One edge of the belt was chewed up badly. So bingo! - that's why my fuel consumption was ****e and the car fluffy to drive - it had obviously jumped and the timing was screwed. Now bear in mind that Ashmore Skoda in Newbury gave it a new belt, tensioners etc back in December at 146,000 - I was a little ****ed off (car's now done 159K). It turns out the mount for the tensioner has literally sheered off, the result being one flapping cambelt. Nobody's been able to answer why this happened or what caused it - I was thinking seized water pump or something. Anyway,
  7. Tom - excuse my ignorance, what's the MAF? - something to do with air flow? EGR is a valve in the exhaust isn't it? Why would the coolant temperature sensor cause these symptoms? And if it could, where can it be located to be changed? Cheers............Sam
  8. I'll get it hooked up to a Skoda dealers diagnostic kit. Haven't been on here for years since selling my Octy vRS, this VAG-COM looks bloody brilliant, well useful.
  9. Cheers for the response Tom - the cause of the two stalls was the problem itself! I've also noticed that the idle speed is fluctuating quite a lot..............
  10. I've a Fabia Estate 1.9TDi with 155K on the clock. It's always pulled brilliantly and returns over 50mpg, up to 56mpg if I try hard! A week ago I started it up and I stalled it twice coming off of the drive - seemed strange. Then I noticed I couldn't achieve better than about 30mpg, and also the throttle response was strange. I have to push the throttle quite a bit to get it to pull, whereas before it was really responsive and would pull well with only the slightest pressure on the pedal. It feels really wooly / fluffy if you know what I mean? Initial thoughts are the fuel injectors? What about that stuff that you add to the diesel - anybody tried it? I've not run the car low on diesel or put anything untoward in the tank. Any ideas? Anybody else experienced this? Cheers....................Sam
  11. I think I know what my problem is - this little clip (black on mine) seems to be in place on the other three working doors but looks to have disappeared from the broken door! Can you take a gander at the two images below and tell me what you think? Is this the little clip that you speak of in the other thread? Cheers..............Sam
  12. Excellent! Cheers FunFly. I'm a little unclear, this little red (or silver) clip, is it toward the back of the outside door handle? Or do I need to take the inside of the door apart to access it? Cheers.............Sam
  13. Hi All, not been on here for years, glad to see the site's still going from strength to strength.......... Used to have an Octavia vRS, my Dad's now got a pair of Fabia vRS' (his & hers LOL) and I've just taken on his Fabia 1.9Tdi Estate........ The nearside rear door of the estate won't open from the outside. The central locking appears to unlock the door but you can only open it from the inside, not from the outside handle................ Has anybody come across this before? Cheers...........Sam
  14. Hello all - alas, the time may have come to depart company with my 52 plate black Octavia vRS. She no longer suits my needs. I've a couple of questions and thought it best to ask the experts first as I'm not really into cars and haven't bought and sold them for a long while: I'm won't be trading in - so I presume it's best to advertise and sell privately? She's perfect, black, with 20K miles on her - what money could I expect her to fetch? With the quick version of the Octavia II a long way off, do you expect to see residuals of the original vRS improve? Thanks in advance for any advice / responses................Samster
  15. Hi DGW - no I've not changed wheels, tyres or sprockets......err......sorry gearing!............10% over is not unheard of on some cars..............Honda bikes and cars have a reputation for it. Obviously I'm taking it for granted that the GPS recorded speed is totally accurate. Maybe it's not? So the police guy on here (sorry forgot your username) had his vRS re-calibrated? Do we know how far it was out? Why would the police bother re-calibrating a speedo when they have other devices that give true speed indications in the vehicle? Waste of money isn't it?
  16. Since I've had GPS devices it's been interesting to see the exaggeration in different vehicles speedo's. My 6 speed 150brake Golf TDi was 6-7% over, my girlies Toyota Celica is 4% over, my vRS? Well you'll be astonished to know that I reckon it's almost 11% optimistic! So at an indicated 60mph I'm really doing 54mph according to the GPS. At an indicated 100mph I'm ONLY pulling a true 90 odd..............thus seeing the needle hovering just over 160 on the clock meant a real world speed of 'just' 144mph. Obviously speedos have to be optimistic and not the other way, but 11% over is a joke, and the faster you go the more inaccuracy you get. On my 12R I've seen an indicated 207mph on the clock at Bruntingthorpe - an indicated 207mph on the bike showed as 186mph on the GPS - totally correct as that's what all bikes are now limited to. The error? 11% over, the same as on my car! Surely I'm not the only one with an overly optimistic speedo?
  17. Hi All, My Octavia vRS had covered 15,000 miles now - I've started to notice that if I don't use the car for a day or two when I start it and go to pull away I get a strange noise as I let the clutch out.........it dissapears after 5 or 6 presses of the clutch pedal but sounds like it could be a release bearing or similar................anyone experienced this? If so, what was it? Cheers in advance...............Sam
  18. Hi All - hope everyone's well.................. Just been reading the last few pages of this thread and thought I'd share something with you................my black vRS is totally standard and has covered 15,000 miles now. Recently whilst in Europe I had the opportunity to really max her out, for extended periods of time........... On 3 seperate occasions in the same day I had the speedo needle hovering just over the 160 marker, but believe me the speedo exaggeration at these speeds is ENORMOUS! At the end of the drive down I checked the stats in the GPS - highest speed acheived all day was 144mph - that was on SuperUnleaded, no luggage, just me on my own. There's was fook all left.......I had her floored for like 10 minutes at a time.............still impressive, and she felt totally planted at that speed, but a genuine 155? Pull the other one lads..............no way.
  19. Well in my experience on a twisty bumpy B road that I know like the back of my hand I'd say the Fabia vrS is significantly quicker than my Octavia vrS - both cars totally standard but the Fabia turns in better, the steering feels a bit more 'direct' and the torque's more useable.....................plus it's got a shorter wheelbase and is a lot lighter................don't get me wrong I'm still very impressed with my Octavia, it's a blinding bit of kit, for a 'cage'............LOL, but the Fabia impressed me more on first impression.............so if they give it more oooomph then it will definately be the performance bargain of the decade!
  20. VeeDub don't see Skoda as 'cheap' anymore,............their own new Lupo when launched is going to be the cheapest car on the UK market....................... I had a 1.9 150bhp PD lump in a Golf in November 2000 - nearly 3 years ago, so it's hardly technologically advanced by today's standards - the car was imported from Dusseldorf a good year before the unit was available in the UK................ I've had a go in the Fabia vRS, a mate just got one and it'll run rings round the outside of my standard Octavia vRS in the twisties.............and although it's 'only' got 130bhp, the wave of torque makes it feel like a whole load more, you just gotta short shift it up the box.................
  21. I had a 6 speed Golf TDi with the 150PD engine - no reason why they won't chuck it in the Fabia - physically it's identical to the 130PD unit....................don't you hate it when a manufacturer launches a top model and then almost straight away there's rumours of a better more powerful one coming out............grrrrrrrrrr...........
  22. According to a mate who's a bike cop, the Octavia vrS is becoming THE number one target for car thieves............reason being, according to him, is that they've finally worked out that they can nick these to order so as the lump can be put into 'lesser' Audi's and VW's................
  23. Just go careful for the first few hundred miles and then give it death. You've a warranty haven't you? IF it's gonna let go, which is highly unlikely, it'll let go early within the warranty period. 100mph+ is right - load the engine, don't just sit at 90 on the m-way at constant revs................an engine needs to be flexed and to go through as many different temp changes in it's early life so as the engine metals contract and expand as much as possible. Thrash it. leave for 5 mins. Thrash again. leave for 10 mins. Thrash again. leave for 15 mins....................get the idea? Tolerances these days on modern units are simply awesome compared to say 10 years back................running in really isn't an issue.................if it was an issue then Skoda would want your new car back after 1000 miles to dump the original oil as it would now contain loads of bits of shaved off metal.................however, they don't and they're happy to see the car for the 1st time at 20,000 miles.
  24. All credit goes to Brendan in Australia who took the shots for me and mailed them over this morning - he's a young guy I met through a ZX12R bike forum and kindly offered to take some shots of the Skodas in action as the rally was taking part close to where he lives.................... Big thanks to Ffelan for hosting the pics.........nice one..........enjoy the Ring.............keep it rubber side down! Samster
  25. Well I was planning on spending some money tweaking the vRS but then bought a new bike instead...........still toying with the idea but am a bit worried that I'll not know when to stop if you know what I mean! What did you have done to your's Fabpreza? And if you don't mind me asking what did it cost (approx) and what were the gains?
