  1. Hmmm, Interesting.... A pokey motor contained in a vivacious chassis is a wonderful thing. Be interested to see how much difference the S3 intercooler makes. Keep on having fun.
  2. How times have changed. Last time I read a screen wash thread, there only a couple of us who thought the lidl stuff any good, now look at this one, almost everyone. It certainly works for me. Blatting down a German Autobahn in deep frost and it still works. When you run out, the big jug in the boot is there so you just top up, no looking for water (in its liquid form) No need to worry if you have made it strong enough. Its damn fine screenwash.
  3. Nah, a remap only makes you realise you want better brakes... sharper handling... more grip... Vehicular crystal meth... Makes you smile though.
  4. Re the sub judice thing, surely if the defendant pleads guilty, then the trial is over, bar the sentencing? The facts would be determined to be as stated in the charges. Short of turning up with a suitcase of 50's - I don't think any judge, particularly in a different jurisdiction, would give two hoots about what I thought or said, or could possibly be construed to be an attempt to pervert or influence a sentencing decision. Or do the Scottish courts have a vastly different protocol? Unless it was a thoughtless and perhaps intemperate comment on the superb quality of Japanese whisky? (My personal favourites are Cragganmore as an aperitif, and Lagavulin as a digestive, so this really would be hypothetical).
  5. Ring an actual Powerflex retailer, they should be able to sort it out from the VIN/reg No.
  6. I have an old soviet era, made in the DDR battery alarm clock which still manages to do it. Wolfsburg is not far from the old East/West border. Did they not have spies?
  7. Don't know what would have been changed to prevent fitting CC. It been possible for the last 15 years at least, even if it required a bit of new wire. Perhaps the person you spoke to has just moved from a Ford dealer? I seriously looked at a Cmax until I found the only way to have cruise was to go straight to a titanium level model, no possibility of a retro fit.
  8. I did say a proper specialist... There are a few about. The skill of the operator is always more important than the name on the side of the equipment. Is your car checked with its normal load? You could be a photocopy salesman for example. Where have you tried? Tyre fitters are generally not well trained.
  9. AFAIR. But you don't have to do anything drastic to just double check. Wheel off and a minute measuring. If they have changed, then you will just put them back on and you know where to source some. Someone here insisted the dampers were the same and they weren't.... Double check.
  10. Presumably you are concerned that your settings are incorrect? If you go to a proper specialist, one using something like a Hunter jig, then they will have the latest specs on their computer. The machines are "on line" and updated when necessary.
  11. That's Quantitative Easing for you. None of these mentioned make my roof rail trim seem expensive, and most are just generic, fit anything bits, but I shall squirrel away the info, just in case...
  12. Somewhere sur le Continong, there lies a small piece of plastic, which will be forever Skoda. The little roof bar trim, nsf, detached itself (hard to imagine someone stealing it), its gone. I didn't cry or moan. I did think that will be stupidly expensive though. An expedition to Kings Lynn today saw me come away with a replacement. I had ordered the day before, by phone. It was there, it was right first time, no reorders, sending back or dark looks and mutterings of rubbish service. I was welcomed into the showroom, given coffee while I was stunned at the prices for branded stuff, and surprised to find that What Car thought the mk111 the best repmobile. The salesperson wasn't sure about fitting so he came out and we offered it up and it slipped in nicely. Brandishing the card, I was very surprised to find the cost was only £5.44, inc vat. As was the saleaman. (the parts person had gone home for lunch). So inmates, is there a genuine Skoda part for less than that?
  13. Ignore everyone else and get the Bosch ones. Mine have been on maybe a couple of years and are still streak free. Worked well in the several hours of torrential downpour I drove through in France a few weeks ago. Whatever the first ones I fitted, they were fine until I had to use them, then it was like peering through a greasy jay cloth. It pays to do the usual shopping around as sometimes the lowest headline price has the highest postage. Once you have done all the work, post up on here so we can get some without the effort.
  14. Doesn't the headlamp receiver tray sit on a bit of a metal bracket? I think they are tweekable. Or is the bumper itself slightly twisted? Has it had a bump? Mine is similar. Perhaps not quite so noticeable. I've stopped looking at it.
  15. Got to boil all that condensation off somehow. In the old days, corrosion was quite a serious problem. Condensation and combustion blowby would attack bearing surfaces.
  16. I know. Mine was the same. The original caliper was the same as the new Sirrocco one. Same mounting, same dia piston. Except the old ones had 60,000 mile on them and the new ones were 106 mile old and would rather throw away the old than the new. Mine is a 56 Octavia, so it could be things have changed.
  17. Just slathering on the bitumen stuff is unlikely to do much, it is designed as a panel damper. It doesn't stop noise transmission. If you look where manufactures put it, that's pretty much where is is most effective. Any more than about 1/3 of the panel and it is wasted. Beyond this a barrier layer is needed and the specialist stuff is expensive, all that lead loaded, acoustic foam is costly. A guy I knew worked in this area and he reckoned that carpet underlay was almost as good and much cheaper. He was meaning the stuff made from fabric waste, rather than the rubber stuff. Although that may work. A Specialist carpet layers requisites is likely to have some.
  18. AFIK, the calipers are the same on yours already as the Vrs ones. The sirrocco ones I got for mine were. I don't think there is much difference between the mk V and VI golf under the skin.
  19. Sometime ago a few people reported a similar issue. It seems if the clamp is not fitted perfectly square and perpendicular to the bar, it distorts the bush and that leads to squeeks. Realignment of the little bracket seemed to work - at least the pleas for help stopped. My Whiteline doesn't, so its not an inherent fault, although someone mentioned that the polymer material had changed. Don't know if that is related.
  20. Oil cooler? The oil is cooled by the regular water coolant. Not unknown. If you are planning to keep the car, then it's best to keep flushing the coolant side until it is clean. Even small amounts of oil will degrade the rubber in any hoses. I don't know if there are any specialist flushers for this.
  21. My pet lighting hare is all the big sized 4x4's and Sprinter/Crafter vans. I guess their head lamps are correctly adjusted, but they are at the height of my rear view mirror. Ouch!! Holy seared eyeballs Batman! And to think people complain about all the vicious criminals who have illegal HID's fitted.
  22. On my way back from south of France recently, on the Beaune to Dunkerque leg, it was belting it down. Most of us were using our headlights, with of course, the odd plonker, usually a Brit registered car, or Belgian, not noticing how much spray there was - perhaps in the over whelming gloom under the dark dark sky they couldn't see? The most noticable vehicle, a newly registered uk KIA 4x4 thing stood out. Painted in a fitting camouflage black, and hideing behind its own personal cloud, and guess what? no rear lights of course. Fortunately he had a shed load of those florescent "Baby On Board" dangly things, otherwise, I may have not have seen him. I had a look as I moved back over after the overtake (he was going fairly slowly) I could see the DRL's on. Hopefully he just assumed he had some form of rear end illumination too. But headlamps would have been good. To drift gently off topic, we stopped at a French service station. OMG! Why Oh Why don't we have services facilities like that. A pretty decent croissant considering, nice hot choccy for breakfast, and nice soup and roll for lunch. No, it wasn't so good we hung around, we just had them straight after one another, as we hadn't had brekky and weren't going to be "anywhere" at lunchtime. They even had a lunch time special, steck frites & trimmings for about €12. We were too early. Sadly. Clean and tidy and not having to pay to use the clean, wholesome loos. Helpful and staff amicale. No noisy kids or gaming machines/piped music. Even had comfy seats and car parking conveniently outside, seeing how it was still raining.
  23. 4 years ago, I paid £200 for the hubs, discs, calipers and pads from a written off Sirocco. Total distance covered 106 miles and about 4 hours on the road. Pads were Padgid, and are now about half worn. Through ebay, from a breaker down in Southamton/Portsmouth. Reasonable delivery. If your dampers are not 55mm dia, then you will need to factor that in too. I was put in a situation where I had to get whatever was available "RIGHT NOW!". Had I known, I would have organised something better. Something yellow. The improvement is nearly as good as the remap.
  24. I think they are fitted so salespersons can point it out in the brochure. It only seems cold for a few seconds. Which is why I wrote "strike cold" not "are cold". I don't like a hot bum, being well insulated. YMMV.
