  1. mannyo's post in Columbus Sat Nav was marked as the answer
    Keep an eye on here, someone will post info about the maps but in general its around October/November time for each update.
    I updated the link to the speedcams in my first post, its easier now than the original link and attached instructions here.
    You'll need to use google to search for the software as the download links are different.

  2. mannyo's post in navigation updates was marked as the answer
    The RNS-510 (AKA Superb Columbus) does not come with free map updates, even now they are still a chargeable purchase. The Columbus in the MK3 Octavia is a totally different unit, and has nothing in common except its name with the old outdated Superb unit. The new Columbus does come with free map updates for 12 months, but not the old one.
  3. mannyo's post in MFD nav unit firmware? Weird telephone bug was marked as the answer
    The last firmware update to the original MFD was in 2003, so being an edition 100, it should already have the latest firmware.

    It was already an old unit when it was fitted to the Superb MK1.
  4. mannyo's post in MY2011 won't start - flat battery? was marked as the answer
    Does sound like the battery, all the lights go out when the starter tries to engage.
  5. mannyo's post in 4 wheel allingment HELP was marked as the answer
    Your car is 1Z0,

    2UA is an option code for Standard car, not model designation.

    2UA = Standard design

    As long as it for 2004-2013 you should be fine, and not 2001 to 2005.
  6. mannyo's post in Coolant service warning in Skoda superb V6 2.5 TDI was marked as the answer
    Usual cause of oil into water is the oil cooler itself, an internal failure causes oil to enter the coolant. I would not think head gasket or oil pump at that low mileage.
  7. mannyo's post in Does revving your engine regularly damage it? was marked as the answer
    No damage will occur as long the engine is warmed up and not revved to the max from cold or just after startup.

    My MK1 Octavia vRS petrol spent most of its time at very high RPM travelling laps of the nurburgring, the engine was still running fine at 100K miles when it came up for sale on ebay a couple of years ago. I sold it at 54K miles in 2005.

    I really wouldn't worry about it, the rev limiter is there for a reason as long as you do not go over the red line for extended periods the car will be fine.
  8. mannyo's post in HID VCDS Settings was marked as the answer
    if your coming from a Halogen equipped car, the first two setting (Byte 0 and Byte 2) should already be correct.
    you only need to alter 3 bit 4, and 18 or 19 (depends on CCM version IIRC). if you don't alter the settings then you'll get a bulb failure on the dash.
  9. mannyo's post in dull fog lights was marked as the answer
    More powerful bulbs in foglights = bad in fog. They are meant to be dull, if they were brighter they would be no use in fog at all because the the fog will light up like a white blanket. There intention is to light a very short area in front of the car, the beam is not directional so you only intentionally see a blur of light. The ideal colour temperature for foglights is yellow as that tends to cut through fog better than bright white, that's why until very recently France mandated that all foglights had to be yellow. EU legislation made them become white otherwise they would still be yellow.
    I've turned my Audi ones on twice in 8 months, and one of those was to see if they worked, for the tiny amount of time they are used then I would not bother using upgraded bulbs.
  10. mannyo's post in Maxi-dot speedometer and Columbus was marked as the answer
    There is no way to display the actual speed on the Columbus,

    Think of the legal side, you cannot have two official speedos displayed in the car, having different values. The litigation that would come about in speeding cases due to these differences mean its never going to happen with an OEM satnav.

    If it was even possible, it would most likely just display the speed reading from the ABS sensors used by the main speedo rather than GPS because 90% of the time the Columbus is using these along with input from the steering angle sensor to calculate speed and only checks the GPS position once every 30 seconds or so to check its calculations.
  11. mannyo's post in Year for maxi dot on vrs mk2? was marked as the answer
    thats it,

    DSG = Maxidot standard
    Manual = Maxidot optional extra
    Factory installed Satnav (not retrofit) = Maxidot standard

    Has been the case since the MK2 vRS was introduced many years ago.
  12. mannyo's post in Facelift headlight...Extra bulb? was marked as the answer
    If you have a vRS these bulbs serve no function and are not even wired. On a non vRS these bulbs are the side (parking) lights which on the vRS are dimmed DRLs, the same headlight unit is used across the whole range so on a vRS you end up with an unused bulb.
  13. mannyo's post in Stereo release keys was marked as the answer
    To open the CD mechanism will void any warranty on the headunit, you'll have to break the warranty seal to open it and even then you might not get access to the drive and card without major disassembly. I'd just take it to the dealer and let them deal with it.
  14. mannyo's post in Dashboard clock stays on when ignition off was marked as the answer
    They are meant to remain on, LCD uses virtually no power so drain will not be an issue.
    They were going off and resetting before because they lost all power because of the fuse.
  15. mannyo's post in New Car - Burning smell and smoke was marked as the answer
    its normal, that will be the DPF doing a regen which you interrupted by turning the engine off. During a regen the exhaust is made deliberately hot and this can cause the symptoms you describe, expecially the first few times. The regen will be reattempted the next time you drive the car.
