  1. Some on the lower car deck have been flooded and will require towing off apparently, some are intact and some have panel damage. A car left at 45 degrees is fine, some driveways are steeper than that. The problem is when the ship went over, loose objects on the car deck went from one side to the other, damaging cars as they went. The cars themselves were fine until that happened. Not all the cars were new either, some were privately owned and being shipped abroad by their owners to Asia and beyond. I suspect the whole lot will be heading for breakers yards and dismantled unlike the previous carrier where Mazda crushed 4000 cars, environmental laws have changed a lot in 10 years.
  2. Maybe it can't, not had a superb for a few years now.
  3. Cost per mile does not bother me at all, otherwise I would not be driving a V8 that does 25mpg on a good day with single figures around town along with just short of 300g k//m emissions.
  4. VAS and ODIS cannot do either of these because they are deemed safety features by the factory and therefore should not be removed. DVD in motion and the boot close on the button only be achieved with VCDS which can do a lot more than the dealers tools.
  5. As a guide it took me 3 months to sell my old Audi on a specialist forum, you need to wait for the right buyer to come along. Chances are the buyer will not be a current member, so have a good descriptive post with text that when searching on google your car will come up. It will sell, but may take a while as modifications are not everyones cup of tea. A standard car will sell a lot quicker, maybe for more and you could get more back by selling the mods separately.
  6. Have you cleared the code? Has it returned since, it could be a one off or have been present for a while.
  7. No snow here in the South West. Be careful with all that snow on the roof, if you have to brake sharply it can slide down over the screen and obscure your view. You should as a minimum clear the screen, side windows and roof of snow as much as possible before driving off.
  8. Each individual car has its own emissions rating. The figures in the brochure are for the base car, so if you then add spare wheel and other extras then the extra weight can push the car into the next tax bracket. You could have checked the tax bracket yourself in less than 5 mins on the DVLA website https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-tax
  9. There is already a massive thread on here regarding the program, I'll try and find it. edit. OK not so massive. http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/341463-the-great-car-con-tonight-on-channel-4-8pm/?hl=%2Bdiesel#entry4106655
  10. I'd use 320kbps MP3 or FLAC, you could also try Apple lossless which is still AAC but without any lost detail. As mentioned by another poster the audio system in the Avensis is simply masking the weaknesses of 128kbps whereas the better system in the Rapid makes them more obvious. The Octy MK3 Canton sounds amazing with FLAC files, whereas with MP3 can sound weak and lost.
  11. if you disconnect the central locking then the deadlocks will not work so the door will be always locked and fail the MOT as a result because it must be possible to open all doors from the outside.
  12. Stick it in for the MOT at the start of Feb and the new one will expire at the end of Feb 2016, If It fails it does not void the current one, so you can drive away and fix any issues with no problem.

    4k tv

4K seems to be taking off really well. 3D on the other hand seems dead in the water and a passing fad. Buying 3D content can be difficult, and the amount available seems to be getting smaller, to the point that even the BBC have given up on it.
  14. I visually check all four, for a flat tyre twice a day, check the tyre tread weekly and the actual pressures every 2-3 weeks or before a long journey.
  15. it works by using the ABS sensors and measuring the rotational differences between the wheels whilst driving. As a tyre deflates that wheel will start to rotate faster so the warning is triggered. Known values are stored in the ECU when you press and hold the TPMS button, any deviance from those should trigger the warning. When tyres are replaced the system must be reset, so press and hold the TPMS button until you here a bong. If you do not do this then you may get false alarms or no alarm at all if the tyre goes flat. The system should also be reset if you check your tyre pressures and need to alter them slightly.
  16. If you have Freesat as opposed to Freeview or Freesat from sky then you have access to all the BBC1 and BBC2 regions. BBC1 Scotland is on channel 960, and can be viewed live anywhere in the UK. http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/reception/pdfs/BBCfreesatchannelnumbers.pdf
  17. I'd try and find a free one, buy that and try it first. IIRC they are just standard MP3 files though.
  18. 269 euros looking at the irish car configurator for the alarm.
  19. Alarm is standard specification across the full range of models in the UK.
  20. You loose a hell of a lot in the first 12 months regardless of make/model, then the depreciation rate flattens off. Typically the car will be in negative equity until its around 18 months old (on traditional HP/Loan, PCP less). Then factor in the old shape model, people like new models. Look at what happened to the Octavia MK2, its value is dropping like a stone.
  21. I've left the post, but removed the address. If you look in the bottom right of every post (assuming on computer) there is an edit button on your own posts. Not sure on mobile or tapatalk.
  22. The Octy MK3 needs a full HEX-CAN interface to read the ECUs, there is only one source for this version of VCDS and that is either Rosstech or an authorised distributor in your country. The 50-60GBP ones on eBay are all fakes, Rosstech are forever getting these listings removed. They come with hacked software which you cannot upgrade, and who knows what software modifications were carried out to bypass the license check. We have had one member completely immobilise there car when the fake VCDS erased the EEPROM in the instrument cluster. Links to fake cables are not allowed, so please do not post any or this thread will be either edited and locked or removed all together.
  23. Unless the existing boiler is breaking down all the time, I'd probably keep the existing one. 16 years is not that old for a boiler which if properly maintained can run for many years more. My parents old floor standing Potterton lasted 30 years and was replaced with a combi for simplicity 5 years ago.
  24. This ^^^ and also what happens if dropbox goes bust or gets closed down by copyright chasers. Dropbox is not only used by you and I, a quick search on google will reveal many links to copyright material stored on dropbox. Many legit organisations lost LOTS of data when megaupload was closed down and their servers seized by the NZ government. I'd never use a cloud storage solution for important data, the risks are just too great. I am happy with my USB HDD backup solution, two copies are always away from my home and swapped weekly with the connected HDD. If the worst were to happen (house fire, storm damage etc.), at most I'd lose a weeks worth of data changes. My server runs 24x7x365 so as it ages there is an increased risk of HDD failure, its 4 years old now and never been turned off in that time. I have however as a preventative measure replaced all 4 HDDs over the last 6 months.
