Stereo release keys

Featured Replies

Hello,

My 3 years old son inserted an SD card into the CD slot of the Swing stereo of my mk3 Octavia.

I would like to avoid a visit to Skoda service as they would surely charge a lot for extracting the SD card from inside the stereo.

Could someone point me to the correct release keys for this model?

I search at eBay and Google, but no key set referenced to the mk3 model, so I'm not sure which one should I order.

Thanks in advance.

To open the CD mechanism will void any warranty on the headunit, you'll have to break the warranty seal to open it and even then you might not get access to the drive and card without major disassembly. I'd just take it to the dealer and let them deal with it.

I'll take it to the dealer then... thanks for the advice.

I agree with mannyo - you are very unlikely to get to the insides of the CD slot even if you totally disassemble the head unit.

As a point of reference, I don't think you need a special 'key' or tool to get the head unit out - the surrounding trim should come off and there should be four torx screws holding it in.

On the Octavia 3 the front centre console is a display module only, the workings etc. are all in the glovebox.

Only in the UK. In Europe they get the more basic "Swing" stereo on some models, which has the gubbins in the main unit in the facia.

That applies to Bolero and navi units.

Swing has all of the workings and media slots in the centre console unit.

Surely if he takes it out, and gives it a good rattle upside down, there's a good chance it'll just fall out? Did something similar once before.

what about two thin objects...knives maybe, though blunt ones like you'd use for eating with, and sort of pincer them together to try to grab the SD Card. If its just been pushed in, it cant be too far in, and as long as it hasnt dropped down into the unit, you may be lucky

Thank you for all the replies.

Finally I got the car to the dealer today and they took out the SD card at no charge.

They told me that they were lucky the card went out easily as otherwise they would have been forced to send the unit to factory as they are not allowed to manipulate the stereos.

Good for the Skoda service!

Result.
