  1. While blowing up my Vredestein Quatrac5 tyres, I noticed an unexpected symbol of a 4 leaf clover, next to the sunshine and snow indicators. What does it mean?
  2. I've got a voltmeter cum USB charger plugged into my 12V socket. The stop start was working well. I noted the voltage dropped quickly to 11.9V at a traffic light standstill. Usually 14.6V indicated on the move.
  3. Type G13 coolant into Google. Any number of pink 'uns pop up.
  4. Bought 15l of their concentrated winter Screenwash. No details on the bottles or website. Diluted 50% and it froze at -4°C. I now note the website says it's good for -4°C undiluted. Please bring back the Lidl -60°C stuff!
  5. I sometimes wonder if I've been in a parallel winter universe by living up in Buxton and using summer tyres.. No more! Engine braking cautiously sometimes resulted in the driving wheels locking. (Austin Maxi) and complete inability to hold the car stationary (Volkswagen Passat) I sometimes wonder if I've been in a parallel winter universe by living up in Buxton and using summer tyres.. 6. Pott Shrigley used to be famous for its annual motorcycle hillclimb. Not a speed hillclimb. But iirc how far can you get up the hill in a straight line.? I watched one event and only two bikes made it. My Mk2 Octavia had a button to turn off traction control in a hurry. But the Mk3 doesn't. I'm not convinced turning it off will always help. I had a brand new B5.5 Diesel Passat Estate around 2000. It was the first version to get the multiple acronym stability and traction control system. In heavy snow I retreated from blocked Bakewell on the Monyash Road. A long climb. Iirc in 3rd gear and going rather slowly, foot flat on the floor and revs limited by the system. I thought i could go a bit faster if I turned it off. Immediately had wheel spin and even backing off the car failed to get traction and slowed dramatically. Switched the system on again rapidly and carried on climbing. Shortly afterwards, after reaching the top, warning lights started flashing. It was the brakes overheating in their efforts to ensure traction. Sorry for the ramble.
  7. Not going to read my Android and drive at the same time. Maybe on the driveway just to test, as you do.
  8. I've now got the throttle valve position on my app. What's it supposed to tell me and when?
  9. My 2016 does have drain holes in the doors. Near the fold over bottom seam.Careful prodding , with say a wooden skewer, will clear any blockage. My Mk2 had wax blocking some.
  10. Anyone in Chesterfield that can do that? TIA
  11. Hotspot Automatic isn't really helping. Deleted it again. Only around half my journeys are being automatically recorded by Connect LITE. Limited opportunity to ensure connection has been properly initially, as my technophobic passenger gets impatient.
  12. MOLL batteries from 2016 were often faulty and replaced under warranty. Mine was. I'd rather have a Bosch.
  13. Using the free app Hotspot Automatic as recommended above. Seems to help the connection reliability. 92% is my highest score so far. Suburban trip of 8 miles to the tip and back. 14. Drove on actual snow today, wheel spin easily induced by a heavy right foot going up a hill but lifted off a bit and no bother at all. Vredestein Quattrac 5.
  15. I live lower down, in Chesterfield. Only driven on suburban side road ice. I wouldn't fancy living up in Riber Castle, nice as the view is.
  16. I've now activated exhaust gas temperature, Only had one reading of 593C. A problem is that app is reluctant to connect to my Android and I'm missing parts of or even whole journeys. I know that I could do a reset, but saving a back up has not worked yet. All the best for 2021.
  17. Childproof locks are activated? I guess this may control the windows and interior door handles.
  18. In the bad old days of BMC I bought "winter " thermostats to warm the heater and engine up more. Think they were a 2°C hotter rating. I'd access to Perspex sheeting and so I made blanking shields , mounted behind the grille. Plenty of spare room in those days. No overheating. And the temperature gauge only occasionally dropped when going downhill. Interior of car windows freezing up was a real problem in 1960s designs.
  19. Even my manual 1.4tsi struggles to get 35mpg on urban trips. I tend to leave it in eco but will try tweaking the individual mode.
  20. My dongle plus Skoda Connect Lite is reporting intake air temperatures all over the place, as high as 38°C. Absurd. Where is the temperature measured? Getting concerned, if this is indicative of an intake problem.
  21. The BBC radio i player doesn't use much data and you can play that via Bluetooth. I have a pay as you go Android 6Gb per month and get through little data.
  22. Air temperature is all over the place and much higher than ambient. I did a return trip of around 40 miles today in the same ambient and the sensor figures were quite different each way. I parked up for 3 hrs to have a walk.
  23. Please dim them. There are boy racered BMWs with number plate lights so bright the plates are obscured.
  24. Short trip 2 mile from ambient start. Air intake temperature 11.1°C and oil temperature -1°C. Hmm. External ambient, from our local weather station, is 8.2°C.
  25. Mine was quite loose in my 16 plate Combi. I got a steel full sized 16" wheel and tyre supplied for vehicle delivery. The insert, pump and gunge were placed in the boot afaik. Kept the excellent pump.
