LED

Hi guys just want to run something by  you so I do not have problems when I install      i want to put in a 10 watt LED little fish eye light which is going to be red and go under the trim at the rear of the car in the bumper it's not going to mess my paintwork up what it basically will be the daylight running light it will not flash it will be on permanently with the ignition      in red hardly notice but until you are really  ((((( literally on my bumper ))))which annoys me but my basic problem is now I've installed them on the front on previous cars  in white just want to check the fuses with you guys the light will be 10 watts the wire is 18 gauge should I use a 3 amp fuse or a 5 amp fuse I will be using a fuse tap basically going into the cigarette fuse and piggybacking p.s. the rear light will not look stupid before people stop complaining and moaning I'm going to get pulled over by the police it's just going to be a little red light to the tell bloody Idiots in cars and vans 2 to stop riding my bumper thanks guys

Why would a random red light would stop them tailgating you?

Seems easier to ignore them but make sure you have a safe distance to perform an emergency manoeuvre if needed...

Anyway, 10W on a 12v (ish) supply is about 0.83A so a 3A fuse will be plenty. An 18 gauge wire should easily handle 3A so you should be good...

Thanks mate just wanted to confirm I was heading in the right direction that's brilliant I'm going to use an add a fuse and tap into the 12-volt power out in the fuse box under the dash ran it straight into the back and out of the car and the light should look good just cannot access the cigarette lighter out in the boot without damaging the liner what a shame but thank you anyway

Just to confirm, are you going to add a switch or something so you can turn this on and off?

yeah.......ok, if somebody's tailgating you, I don't think a red light is going to do anything.

I wasn't going to I was just going to have it like a normal running light ignition goes on light turns on mission ignition goes off light turns off off-white I think I will have to put a switch on it

Daft question, would it be easier to just have your tail lights on all the time instead?

You can easily do this by moving the light switch but you can also have the car recoded so the tail lights are on whenever the front DRL are. It saves any legality argument and avoids any chance of causing glare for drivers behind you, especially at night.

While I appreciate it might not look as odd as a single bright centre light, it should make you more visible which might be good enough?

Just a quick question when daylight running lights are on my SE  model is there a function that the rear ones stay on on when the front daylight running lights are on have I missed something and do the models that are further along have daylight running lights in the rear obviously I presume they would be the LED clusters mine take bulbs have I missed something

Stock behaviour is just front DRL.

With tools such as VCDS or OBDeleven, you can also make the tail lights work as DRL. It doesn't matter if they are LED or normal bulbs. It's a simple two minute job 😉

I think even the dealer tool has a function to enable this. It certainly has on past models.

Guys have I made a mistake in thinking that when the front day light running on my   SE    model which is a 2019 and has bulbs in the rear cluster obviously the front come on with the ignition but is there a function that they would have the real bulbs come on at same time without the main beam coming on ie we front daylight running lights and the rear cluster also turning into a rear daylight running light all is this function only full light clusters that are Led and I'm models higher than mine just checking in case I've missed something

Brilliant mate absolutely brilliant I shall investigate this    that would save me a lot of hassle so basically when the front day light running lights are on you can also configure the rear cluster which has bulbs to do the same thing basically become rear daylight running lights using the existing bulbs so basically would have to plug in something somewhere in the car to get it to do this am I right in thinking that some kind of deleting tool or a laptop with a program on it that would really save me a lot of hassle and it would look a lot better

You just need someone with vcds to activate Scandinavian DRL mode for you

Yup, the existing tail lights that come on at night would also be on during the day. Simples!

No guarantee it'll stop people tailgating but it'll give you rear lights all the time in a safe and legal way.

I think @Gizmo is relatively close and has a hex-net which can change the adaptation channels 👍

The legal requirement is for FRONT daylight running lights.  The concept of a rear DRL does not exist.

Not quite that simple on a MK3, but it’s easy enough.

Yes I’m near Folkestone

Never mind red dots, invest in black ones, aka full stops.

:mmm:

I personally think it should be a requirement for front and rear, why the need to be seen from the front but not the rear???  Having coded both of mine to have Scandinavian DRL's, ODBeleven even has a one click app for it, two minute job!!

@Diljit You can have the coding done to have the rear Side Lights (Position lights) on with the Front Daytime / Daylight running lights.  (No special bulbs to the rear.)

Or you could just turn on the Side lights & Dipped Headlights and have lights to the front and rear.

Ok mate you've got my interest this is what I might do then with this Scandinavian drl  what just remind me what is a OD BELEVEN is it a app on a phone is it an actual gadget totally unfamiliar do you think it will work on my Mark 3 so we are pursuing that in somebody's countries these models have the permanent daylight running lights it's on on straight from the factory as required in countries where they don't have a lot of light ie we are Scandinavian countries am I getting this right PS it's absolute bul**** the front door on and areas and are on thanks mate just need you to clarify

You can change the settings on your UK car to have the rear sidelights on with the DRL's, if you can not do it get someone who can to do it.

Ok mate thanks at least I'm getting somewhere this would be the simpler option do you think I need to download an app or I need somebody with a code reader probably not a major problem I'm sure somebody t.i. son nose will probably have a VW code reader so I've got to look for a thing called a Scandinavian option I'm sure we'll find something once again thanks

A grown up will be along to help.

I never do it myself as there are plenty children or others with the gear and more than an idea that will do it for me.

Look for the Australian  Setting if you want your dash coded for large MPH, if you want and do not already have that.

This seems to be a continuation of the OP's other thread: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/488998-led/

Yes, it can be done with OBDeleven if you know what you're doing.

However, as per my suggestion in the other thread, Gizmo is close by and can enable rear DRL for you. It'll be the easiest, cheapest and least risky way of achieving this :)

@Diljit

If the front screen washers are not powerful enough get them uprated so that you can wash tailgaters front screen and have their auto wiper activating.

If you have them just right you might be able to get those in convertibles to get the idea they are too close when in nose to tail slow traffic.

Anyone in Chesterfield that can do that? TIA
