  1. Dropped off a passenger in misty conditions. When I restarted Bong, Turn off rear fog light. Big symbol on dash. Didn't want to turn it off, but off and on and warning went. Later on the same warning. I ignored it and went away after a few seconds.Guess it's to prevent usage in clear conditions. But first time for me in 4 years of ownership . Simply clever?
  2. Replace the battery in the spare key as well. Otherwise the warning doesn't go away in my experience.
  3. If you use Bluetooth you can use a charger from the 12v socket and connect to those apps. Works on my Mk3 pre face lift. Not sure why you "have" to use the USB port.
  4. Despite the assertions, the charging cable does make a difference. I tried several brands and found the CABEPOW supplied, JSAUX brand (from Amazon) is definitely the best. I've fitted them to all my charging systems.
  5. I carry a tyre pump, pressure gauge, 1l of oil, a portable John, a spare item of clothing, pack of biscuits, hand wipes et Al. Very handy.
  6. Oh well. I also got a zero response on the Kia forum. We must have two unique noises in our vehicles.
  7. SWMBO is always adjusting the sun visors in her Kia Picanto3 and my Octavia Combi. Alarming knocks and rattles are caused when she does not clip the visor rod back. Sounds silly I know, but in my Octavia it sounded like bottles or cans rolling around under the passengers seat. In the Kia, very loud knocking and BRAAAP.
  8. In years past I've taken advantage of low priced multi buys for concentrate. Any around this year?
  9. I do, to salve my eco conscience in my manual combi 1.4l. The full acceleration is still available once you push the pedal beyond a slight click.
  10. Gone rather off the original topic. I have 4 all seasons tyres. Because the grip characteristics are different from summer tyres, I'd not care to try 2 of each type in the colder months. It could be as bad as mixing radials and cross plies. Not saying, just a thought experiment.
  11. That may be rhetorical. But a little story. I was at Oulton Park some years ago for the Porsche Cup. There was a famous modified ex Le Man's iirc whale tale turbo 911, sponsored by Blue Coral. The driver was from the Haynes car manual firm. Asked him about the power available. He said the turbo boost gauge should be calibrated in £s. When pressed about what reasonably reliable power was usable for circuit racing he said up to 800hp, but for Oulton less than half that. I gathered that its speed was largely down to aero, chassis design and tyres. Impressive driving for disabled guy.
  12. Having driven SWMBO Picanto 3 quite a bit, the reversing camera especially, plus cruise control and I admire the autonomous braking /warning system, which has triggered a few times. The power and torque of my 1.4tsi out weighs most of the above. 😄
  13. My 2016 SE has 10 buttons there. All but 3 are blanks. And it does have drive mode selection on one. An emissions issue in ROI?
  14. I'm 6'1.5" nowadays and 15 stone. The Octavia is very comfy for me. I have the steering wheel fully back and up. I adjust the seat height so that I can just see the bonnet. No need to push the seat right back or on the lowest position. Also give more knee room for rear passengers. I occasionally come in contact with the rubber door seal getting out.
  15. Happened on my Mk2. Had to pay as it was out of warranty. Around 7 year old?
  16. When I learned to drive with BSM in 1968, putting the car in neutral and pressing the button on the handbrake before engaging it was a must. I was obsessive about waggling gear knobs . Habits have changed and I always leave the Octavia in gear and the front wheels towards the kerb if on a hill. Having to press the clutch pedal in modern manuals before starting gets around the old jump forward, tinkle manoeuvre .
  17. Unless the circuit is certified Intrinsically Safe then no chance. Read up about the UK's worst pit disaster at Sengenydd Colliery. Low voltage signalling system sparked and ignited methane. Never mind hydrogen/oxygen. Just also bought, but not used, a lithium ion jump starter.
  18. Tap water is fine in most of the country. If you have "hard" water use deionised water. Otherwise nozzles may clog up.
  19. I bought some complete black and green caps. From Smile. Shipped all the way from Shanghai. Made in Germany. Aye right, as they say in Scotland. Needed a bit of careful filing of the fixing lugs, but look great. Fingers crossed.
  20. I wash my cars with wash and wax. No detailing so look away now guys. I got a few very fine top coat scratches by being forced into the shrubberies pre- lock down. After my first wash in 4 months I thought i'd do something to sort them. Rather than spend tiring effort with T cut , I found a can of Well-Handled, from Wilko, Trim and Bumper restorer.A spray and wipe has visibly got rid of most. Quartz grey paint btw. Good enough for me. Enjoy your detailing guys.
  21. As above in my Combi.
  22. I eventually got my MOLL EFB battery replaced under warranty, one year ago. The STOP/START was not working. The direct replacement Varta battery has worked perfectly since. Even with some disuse during lockdown. 😀
  23. I've worn through the genuine Skoda drivers mat in 14,000 miles. Stuck on a black anti floor scratch pad intended for furniture legs.
