  1. Get ya self over to ScoobyNet - that's where I spend my time although it's a few years sinc my Scoob went. Don't let the AWD fool you - they're better than many in the snow but with wide low profile tyres, you can easily find a tree ;-)
  2. To attract attention from the fuzz with an induction kit would probably mean driving like a tit - don't drive like a tit
  3. Tyres can be perfectly legal but if they are close to the limit they can be very noisey. I believe at some point the EU divs are outlawing v groove tyres because of the noise they produce. If you look at most manufacturers - any new tyres they produce tend not to be v groove!
  4. V groove tyres get louder as they wear down, more so than none v groove if that's what you have fitted?
  5. Having owned (well the wfe anyway) our 1st VRS for 5 years i'm fairly new to the Fab modding scene. Coilovers for £200. Tell me more and in particular the OP as it's his question. I'm fairly handy with a spanner (brakes, exhausts and the like) - is the swap to coil overs a task which is fairly straight forward job for the drive at home? Apologies for the thread hijack
  6. Fill foot wells and boot with wet sand will be the cheapest although if you are caught with a hose pipe adding the water in the wrong county - it may prove more costly in the long run. I suggest you contact your local water authority to be certain
  7. My 04 plate is at 170k on original clutch, turbo, battery and exhaust and is in far better mechanical nick than the wife's 56 plate which is on 40k. Mine has been a motorway queen since 30k miles when we bought it hence i'd sooner have a motorway queen on 100k than a town machine which has done 40k
  8. Further apologies - have just found the tyre forum
  9. I have 2 VRS's which cover 50k miles per year between them and have used Brookroyd for the last 4 years - well recommended. I think for the amount of time i spend there - i deserve my own seat
  10. Apologies to the OP for the thread hijack
  11. Toyo Proxis 4 - tried to get T1R's but was short on time. They are no where near as good as T1R's but was't sure if they are the sole reason for poor puddle riding. I'm a heavy motorway user and do up to 30k a year so longevity is a must - what comes recommended by you Skoda peeps?
  12. I've tried it on and off and can't tell any difference. I wasn't aware however that when the light on the dash is on - the system is off Out of interest (standing water has been mentioned) i find my Fab does't handle standing water very well at motorway speed - would this system be better turned off in this scenario?
  13. So i could just have HID on high beam? How does this stand up against an mot? I frequent Scoobynet and there has been a lot of talk about the legality of after market HID. With regards to the spots being so low - i don't think it would be a problem when you look at the position (and size) of the ones i had on my Elise. Turning those on was like turning night into day
  14. As above - a lot of it has to do with how you drive. If someone is up your chuff, let em - just make sure you are fully aware of your surroundings, ie: make damn sure of what is going on in front of you and you are reading the road in case you have to slow down or even stop. In most cases you will give your self enough time to slow down and indeed the idiot behind you. I drive 25-30k a year and in the last 5 years have had an Impreza Turbo, lotus Elise, Clio 172 and now the Fab. Doesn't matter what you drive - the dicks are out there. The only difference now is that when the road clears in front of me, i can't destroy them with acceleration which the Scoob was rather good at
  15. Apologies is this has been covered before. I've done a search but can't find the answer. I spend a lot of time driving in the dark and a lot on B roads. The Fogs are useful maybe twice a year so i'm wondering if you can replace them with a driving light for use on main beam. I don't want a pair of dirty great Cibie rally slags, just something that will replace the fogs and retain the std look of the car. Thanks in advance
  16. That's a bit of an arse - if no real mpg gains are to be had then it can only be a good thing for my clutch
  17. Thanks for the input. No mpg increase would put a complete stop to my plans. Anyone else have similar experience?
  18. I heard a few good things about this company and got me to thinking. Both me and the Wife have Fabia VRS's (old shape diesel variety) and we do between 20k and 30k each per year. I've been swapping emails with the chap who runs it and he claims 40bhp / 75nm gains and 10% up on mpg. I'm not really fussed about the extra power (although will be nice) but more arsed about the extra mpg. He has said he would do a deal on the pair for £450 which with a 10% mpg increase would pay it self back in around 10 months and then start saving us money. Dilemma??? Is 10% mpg increase realistic (75% of all our miles are motorway). The wife's car only has 32k which is fine but mine has 163k and still on it's first clutch - i feel i'm tempting fate. Experiences, thoughts????
  19. If you hold it down it goes into another settings menu :(
