  1. silver1011's post in DRL gremlin-any advice please... was marked as the answer
This is the MkII Octavia, but it is the same for the MkII Superb. It is great for illustrating how the DRL's and cornering fog lights work...

  3. silver1011's post in Octavia 03 wiper judder was marked as the answer
Too much product on the glass.

Mine do this if I accidentally get any polish on the windscreen and/or use Rainx.

You can tell there is something on the glass by the way the water is beading and running off it.

Completely strip all the product off the windscreen and things will improve.
  4. silver1011's post in Any recommendations for a replacement battery. was marked as the answer
Skoda have a reputation for fitting small / low cost / under powered batteries, cost saving I guess.

Does your car have the hard plastic case or the soft material cover around the battery?

If you do go for the bigger 096 then you might need to leave the material blanket off as it won't stretch around the bigger battery.

Personally I would go for the E44, especially if the car is a keeper. When it comes to batteries and the winter months bigger is almost always better
  5. silver1011's post in "Inspection in xx days." Time for service? was marked as the answer
As mentioned, the inspection service does not involve an oil change.

Dealers are unhappy that more and more people are leasing their cars so opting for the long life service intervals hence less feet through the door.

Skoda reacted by introducing the inspection service to force people back into the dealerships.
  6. silver1011's post in Flashing glow plug light + limp mode was marked as the answer
Yes, 20 miles will be fine, limp home mode is designed to get you home or to the garage.

The fact that it drops into limp-home mode straight away each time you start the engine suggests the fault needs looking at ASAP.

Faulty sensors can prevent the DPF from regenerating (amongst other things) so I would be making a bee-line for your nearest dealer as quick as possible.
  7. silver1011's post in Estate - spare clips needed for sun shades was marked as the answer
They are available from Skoda, part number: 1Z0064720.

This is Skoda's online shop in the Czech Republic, but they don't ship overseas.

Quote the part number to a UK dealer and they should be able to source them for you.

I find this system quick and easy for getting prices...

Hopefully the MkIII Scout doesn't have the steel plate engine undertray like on the MkII, this is a nightmare to lift when removing.
  11. silver1011's post in Help to identify engine part 2.0l TDI PD was marked as the answer
It's all in the engine cover. This is for an Octavia but it seems the differences are also reflected on the Superb...

    Yes, perfectly normal

I have a CR140 that has just hit 80,000 miles, more than enough grunt.
  14. silver1011's post in Scout wheel size - offset was marked as the answer
I'd go ET50 as this is factory standard and is the spec from the OEM Proteus alloy.

It might also depend on which chains you are planning to buy, sometimes a different offset helps with clearance around the strut at the extremes of suspension travel and full lock.

  18. silver1011's post in What one?... was marked as the answer
My local dealer would only advise on the correct parts with a reg. number.

Find a vRS on Autotrader with the badge you like / need, note the registration number and phone the dealer back for an accurate cost.

There are only two for the vRS for the boot, MkI and MkII

    This is the MkI...

    And the MkII...

If yours is an LE (MkII) this is the one you need:

  19. silver1011's post in Octy || bong was marked as the answer
Yes, this is the low battery warning.

Some car's also get a warning appear on the radio display too.

Most people notice it when the car doors are open (interior lights on) and the radio is on etc. whilst they are cleaning the interior.

The car bongs and the message appears briefly in the radio.

    Time for a new battery.
  20. silver1011's post in 37000 Mile Service was marked as the answer
So it looks to me as though the car was set to fixed from new.

Fixed = 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever is reached first.

The car was serviced at 10,000 miles and again set to fixed. It therefore had its second service done at 19,804 miles.

At this point the service indicator was changed from fixed to variable - when you bought the car.

Variable = up to approx. 20,000 miles or 2 years.

You have since done 12,000 miles since the last service, and the car is currently estimating you have another 5,000 miles until it needs a service, so a total of 17,000 miles since the last service.

Fixed service intervals are ideally suited for those that cover low to average mileage (up to approx 12,000 miles per year) or those that do only short journey's.

Variable service intervals are better suited to those that cover high mileage and spend most of their time on the motorway.

Since your annual mileage appears to be around 12,000 miles I would be tempted to have the car serviced now and the service indicator changed back from variable to fixed.

Opinion varies but for me up to 2 years / 20,000 miles is too long without having fresh oil, hence I prefer at least one service per year.

A fixed service according to Skoda's national pricing policy is £139...

    http://www.skoda.co.uk/owners/service-and-maintenance/national-pricing/servicing/

Don't be tempted to pay for the more expensive variable / major service. The extra's listed over and above the fixed / minor service (air and fuel filter) are only changed "if required".

First check the service book in the glovebox to see when these items are required. They are rarely needed before 3 years old or 60,000 miles.

If they are needed it is often still cheaper to add these items separately from their menu pricing.
  21. silver1011's post in Variable Service Issue/Question was marked as the answer
The sensor in the sump that measures the oil viscosity is just one of the inputs that is used to determine when the car flags for a service.

Like you say the number of cold starts, journey duration etc. is also figured in.

I would be pushing for a discounted oil change.

Skoda's fixed price for a minor service (basically an oil and filter change) is £139.

My dealer changed the oil (and stamped the service book) for me for £100.
  22. silver1011's post in Correct battery 07 vRS TDI was marked as the answer
    It's fine.

Although not as strong as the Bosch S5 or Varta E44 the 71Ah and 670CCA is OK and very close to the OEM spec battery supplied from new.
  23. silver1011's post in Have I got DRL day light running lights was marked as the answer
    Yes you do.

Early facelift Octavia's had the DRL's fitted but they were deactivated.

You can activate them using VCDS or by asking your dealer to do it.

Find someone local to you here...

    http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/224376-vcds-owners-map/

Once activated you can turn them on and off yourself using the procedure detailed in the manual.

Welcome to Briskoda by the way :sun:

  25. silver1011's post in Twist or pull? was marked as the answer
    Pull, and pull hard.

When it still doesn't come out, swear a bit and pull even harder. When it finally releases and you crack your hand swear some more and mumble something about the stupid design.

When re-inserting snap off the lugs that hold it in place to ensure that next time it can be done without a trip to A&E.
