  1. Yes, new bumper, new headlight washer. The headlight washer was on back-order, been waiting 3 weeks now to get it repaired. First time in 35 years of motoring that it was my fault - clipped the side of a builders trailer when reversing in a builders yard, and the edge of the trailer just caught the washer jet :(
  2. Wonder if this is at an extreme enough angle to make the sunroof leak !!! My Yeti off to get a new front bumper fitted after some minor accident damage.
  3. I'd just like to be able to turn off the voice control system completely. I occasionally activate it accidentally, and it starts trying to understand our conversation!! I have no use for it, but it came as standard :( Anyone know how to turn it off, or even better, make the left switch/roller revert to a MUTE function?
  4. That's really good news. How do I enable the "Alt. speed dis." option. I've searched through the "Setup" menu and still can't find it.
  5. Seems a stupid law (directive?) to insist that a misleading speed is shown on the Maxidot. What relevance is kph on UK roads? I often use the Maxidot speed display when setting cruise control, and have to think twice what the speed limits are in kph to set the cruise control. I would expect laws to make driving easier and safer, not harder and more dangerous. 50kph = 30mph 100kph = 60mph 120kph = 70mph verified on my GPS
  6. On our recent trip down the M74/M6 a few weeks ago, on cruise control at an indicated 122kph (approx 70mph real speed), we averaged 38.2mpg indicated. One of the most economical cars we've had for motorway driving.
  7. We wnt from a little Peugeot 207cc to the Yeti, and my wife says that the Yeti is easier to drive and park than the 207cc was.
  8. I find the exact opposite. With cruise control turned on, at say 70mph, the engine never labours, on hills it changes down gear when needed, and I get my best fuel consumption when on cruise control. Add if you have to slow down to say 30mph, then when the traffic clears just click cruise control on and the Yeti accelerates back up to 70mph through the gears in the most economical way.
  9. Never regretted getting 2WD. Here in the Scottish Highlands, ground clearance is far more important than 4WD.
  10. Our Subaru Forester had a rattle from the instrument binnacle plus a rainwater leak on the drivers side window (frameless), neither of which the dealer could fix :( In fact, we've only had two cars within the last few years that didn't rattle - a Renault Megane, and our Yeti. I'm convinced that it's just luck, and I normally wait 6 months before getting rattles fixed because most seem to go away eventually anyway. I've had more problems caused by dealers trying to fix rattles.

    DSG failures

Given the title of this thread "DSG failures Safety issue VW DSG recall" I just wanted to say how impressed I am with the DSG gearbox in our Yeti. I've driven automatics for the last 25 years or so, from all the main manufacturers (Mitsubishi, Volvo, Honda, Subaru, Mercedes, Toyota, MG, MINI, Renault, Peugeot, Citreon, etc), and this is the first time I've been totally happy with an automatic gearbox. More interesting was comparing my 7-speed DSG with my son's two year old 6-speed DSG in his Audi TT last weekend. The gearchanges between 1st and 2nd were so much smoother in the Yeti. I can only assume that VW have continued to improved their DSG gearboxes over the last couple of years. So, to put this thread to rest, is there any truth in Y4YETI's claim that there is a safety issue concerning DSG failures on the Yeti requiring a recall by VW?
  12. We've just completed out regular summer tour of the relatives. Approx. 1400 miles in our Yeti 1.2 DSG. From the north of Scotland, A9 to central belt, M6/M5 to Devon, A303 etc. to Bournemouth and Basingstoke, then A303 A34 M40 M6 A9 home. Most done at the legal speed limits, and we averaged ...................................................... 39.2mpg Yeti now has over 2500miles on the clock. On our normal day-to-day running, we're getting 42.5mpg, but cruising at 70mph for hours on end pushed the mpg down a little. Best consumption seems to be around 55-60mph.
  13. I still regularly get other drivers flashing their lights at me, presumably because they think I've left my fog-lights on :( I just wish there was some way to flash the real fog lights back at them to make them realise that they're DLRs, not fog lights.
  14. I don't think anyone paid too much VED. My 1.2 DSG has a CO2 rating of 149 on the log book, and £125 for the tax disc. As posted previously at http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/158226-yeti-12-tsi-dsg-elegance/page__p__1951094entry1951094 The technical supplement with the handbook lists Co2 as 149 . Hence the £125 road tax. Fuel consumption figures quoted in the technical supplement are: Urban 7.8 ltr/100km Non-urban 5.7 ltr/100km Combination 6.4 ltr/100km I work that out to be in mpg - Urban = 36.2, Non-urban = 49.6, Combined = 44.1
  15. Just completed 1,000 miles in our 1.2 DSG, and we've averaged 39.2mpg according to the display. Hoping to get 40 mpg over the next 1,000 miles. It's certainly the best automatic gearbox I've ever driven, and I've driven a lot of them over the years (Mitsubishi, Volvo, Renault, Subaru, Mercedes, Citroen, Peugeot, Toyota, Honda). Funny though, I've not yet felt the urge to use the manual gearchange, whereas in previous automatics I often used the manual change to overcome the deficiencies of the 4-speed gearbox logic. The 7-speed DSG always seems to get the right gear.
  16. How easy was it to fit? What was the procedure?
  17. Also standard on the 1.2 DSG, 2WD regardless of trim level (S and above). Works really well alongside the automatic. Stop on a hill, hold the car on the foot-brake. Release the foot-brake, and you've got a couple of seconds to get on the accelerator to pull away, and saves it being help on the automatic's clutch.

    yeti mpg

Just completed 900 miles. Average is now 39.2mpg, that's with the 1.2 DSG auto. Mainly B-roads in the Highlands, with some A9 driving as well. Not used Sport Mode much. Very pleased, will hopefully see 40mpg over the next 1000 miles.
  19. George, it was really good to meet you, and your Yeti. Glad you had a good time in The Port, hope you have a safe journey home.
  20. Yep. saw your Yeti outside the Castle Hotel last night. How was the concert? Wish we could have made it, although we're spoilt for choice this year, with Blackheart appearing next weekend, and even Aly and Phil later in the year!! If you want to see the other Yeti in The Port, up the hill to Knockshortie

    saw a yeti!

Finally saw another Yeti today - a Welsh Yeti 170d Elegance. Freshacre, welcome to Portmahomack
  22. I can't see how you could move the mirror up. The mirror clips into the mounting bracket for it and the various sensors, and isn't stuck to the windscreen. The surround for the sensors was already glued to the windscreen when it arrived.
  23. Windscreen now replaced. A good, clean efficient job by Autoglass. For anyone having a windscreen replaced, here's some observations about the replacement process. 1. Autoglass fitter hadn't done a Yeti windscreen, but reckoned it was a similar process to the new Fabia. 2. Three screw covers, and then three screws on each A-pillar cover. These then unclip. 3. Removed the two plasitc covers around the wipers, and removed the wipers. 4. Removed mirror and sensors enclosure. 5. Then used a reel-of-wire type tool to break the seal, and removed windscreen. 6. New screen went in, etc. etc. 7. New gel pack for the sensors. 8. Tested the auto-wipers with a water spray. 9. Tested the auto-lights by covering the sensor with the black handbook cover. BEFORE AFTER
  24. Don't worry, my DSG hasn't got DSG badges either. And if you find our how to change km/h to mph in the maxidot display, let me know. It would be SO useful to have a digital speedo readout.
  25. Yes, Autoglass know I have auto-wipers and lights - they specifically asked. But where are the sensors - are they in the interior mirror assembly?
