  1. Is there an argument that the current system also provides an annual check on insurance and MOTs. I know it's not fail safe and there are no doubt ways round it, but it's another thing to factor in. Having said that, I believe some countries put an additional duty on fuel that is used to provide an element of third party insurance - I'm sure anyone that has ever been hit by an uninsured driver would appreciate this one.
  2. Had an interesting discussion recently about fuel economy for manual vs DSG cars in terms of real world figures. Yes - the published figures for any car will normally show the automatic (DSG) to be typically 1 or 2 mpg lower than the same car/engine combination with a manual box - but I believe this is based on "ideal" conditions and assumes the manual will be in the most fuel efficient gear for the speed/conditions at all times. Given that in reality this is not the case (and when I test drove a DSG recently it changed up through the gears sooner than I would have done in a manual) it would be interesting to see a real world comparison. Has anyone driven both manual and DSG versions of he same car/engine and got any comparison data?
  3. I saw a silver one done in when we were in Czech...
  4. Interior was £750 as part of a group buy I organised with Seat Surgeons in York http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/112637-seat-surgeons-group-buy/page__hl__seat+surgeons+group+buy That included the seats and the door cards.
  5. Some bits are not exactly my cup of tea but it's certainly individual. Good on you for trying to do something a little different. Think it might suit black fog light surrounds - I had some on my old Fabia vRS - there's plenty of pics of it in http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/133868-andy2407s-yellow-fabia-vrs/
  6. Neo_VR pointed me in the direction of this thread. Little Katie and I are at at wedding in Preston on Saturday, but hangover permitting, it would be good to carry on up the M6 and catch up with you all at lunchtime on Sunday. I won't order lunch just in case it doesn't happen, but fingers crossed we'll make it. I've not read all 6 pages yet - has the lunch destination been announced yet?
  7. A five year old thread revival - but the AA are still sending me insurance renewal quotations for Pinky - even though she's been gone four and a half years (and has probably died and gone to heaven by now). Anyway, this years quote - £558 third party fire and theft!!!!! I'm 43, ROSPA advanced driver, 8 years NCD and pay less than half that for fully comp insurance on my MR2!!
  8. A bit of a thread revival but for anyone like me that read this and applied for an EHIC card, it's now time to renew it. Mine runs out on 30th June 2011 - five years and one day after this thread was started!
  9. Thanks Simon - they are brand new Team Dynamics Monza R wheels - http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/203552-little-katies-new-shoes/
  10. There were a few other little tweaks too - http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/133868-andy2407s-yellow-fabia-vrs Yes - just booked it in for its 36k mile service at 17 months old. Its doing a great job of munching up the motorway miles! And still hairdressing at the weekends in Mr Two. You are correct sir. In my defence it was a while ago and I'm old
  11. Just got some new matt black wheels. What products would you recommend to protect them? I've got some Poorboys wheel sealant somewhere and also some Jet Seal 109. Would any of those be suitable? Ta in advance Andy
  12. It was on Koni FSDs when I had it but Katie didn't want to pay the extra insurance so back to standard now.
  13. I'm not on here much these days but Little Katie is now driving my old yellow Fabia vRS. Here's a few pics of her new wheels - 16" Team Dynamics Monza R in matt black.....
  14. So sorry to hear your sad news. Our thoughts are with you. Take care Andy & Katie
  15. I loved one of the Terms & Conditions when I hired a mini-skip recently.... "Non-payment of accounts could result in a similar material being deposited back on the hirer's property." I'm sure it would get them into trouble, but I hope they have the balls to do it when necessary!
  16. Not been on for a while but yes - received with thanks. Much appreciated mate
