  1. Evening folks, My windscreen is getting replaced as a stress fracture has developed from underneath the scuttle panel and is working its way up the windscreen (had the windscreen replaced previously by National Windscreens as there was a leak due to the sealant not being fully applied in one area....) Currently the windscreen installed has the sunstrip and encapsulation around the perimeter (the windscreen which they previously put in) and I am wanting the same one as this. However they (National Windscreens) say they don't supply and can't get the windscreen with the encapsulation on it.......... is this true as I phoned Autoglass and they have one!! Basically I would like to see a windscreen with and without the encapsulation to see the difference then I can make my mind up as to which one to go for. Has anyone got any pics that they could show me?? If so I would appreciate it so much. Thanks
  2. Check out my brief thread back when I was sourcing winter tyres: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/217870-15-winter-tyres/ i went for the 195 55 R15 and they fitted perfect
  3. Bit of help and advice on what to do guys: About once a week the coolant level keeps dropping and the wee light on the dash comes on. I pull over, pop the bonnet and yes the coolant level is well below the 'min' level. So I turn the car off and begin to open the expansion/coolant tank - as I unscrew the lid there is pressure released and the tank begins to automatically fill up with pink coolant (as if its being drawn back into the tank because I've unscrewed the lid....) It doesn't quite reach the 'max' level so I top up the coolant level with G13 coolant and everything is ok until several days later the warning light appears again and have to top up the level.... I've also had leakage of coolant from the expansion bottle overflow & lid area - so I replaced both expansion tank and cap and it still hasn't resolved anything. Its almost as if the car is forcing coolant out of the expansion tank via the overflow & lid area but also sucking the coolant that's in the tank into the "coolant system" and the only way to get the coolant back into the tank is to open the lid where there is alot of pressure. I have read a few threads on here and am hopping its not the head gasket thats going... The temperature is at a steady 90 and there are no signs of the mayo on the oil cap so thats abit of good news. Any ideas folks?? Thanks
  4. Hi there, I apologise from the start as I am not sure where I should post this topic and would have no problem if it is moved to the correct section. I am just wondering if any of you out there know where I could potentially get my hands on a Toyota Tercel 4WD around the 1985 mark? My dad had one a few years back but gave it to a friend who has since moved on. We are just wondering if anyone knew where to start looking - we have no problem travelling to the mainland to view it etc. Here is a pic of what I am after (colour dosen't matter) : - Many Thanks, Steven
  5. Putting these winter wheels back on tonight and boy do I need them!!!
  6. Hey pal, Really interesting seeing what you have been doing to the fabia. I just bought a house off the A26 heading towards Ballymena, probably not far from you. Originally from Ballyclare direction. Might see ya about. Really like the pressed plates and have been searching for somewhere over here in NI to do them, so thanks for the advice.
  7. Thanks for that fabkhanvrs, had a look @ these areas and seems clear of any leaves etc. So water is collecting down the right hand side behind the bonnet release lever. The bung which I pulled out to reveal the water, this water level has now risen again after I soaked some of it up (its been raining). On a further note I had a look and im pretty sure water is coming on from behind the pedals but cant really pull the carpet back any further. Im now back to thinking that underneath the scuttle may be blocked but I can see through the holes and mesh (on the scuttle panel) and it looks clear i.e no leaves. Has anyone got a photo of the drains below this scuttle panel, which could be potentially blocked in this area?
  8. Ok thanks for that. I went out to the car about an hour ago and had another good look around, and there were a few droplets of water around the perimeter. I noticed a black rubber 'bung' just behind the bonnet release leaver and its kinda felt damn around the edges. I got a pair of pliers and as soon as I started to remove the bung water started to pour in through it!!! I was happy & sad (Happy due to some progress) & (Sad because more water had just poured in infront of my eyes lol) So I have attached a few photos of what I have found and my question now is 1.How does water get down in behind here and 2. Should it not get drained out somehow?? Anyways your thoughts and suggestions will be much appreciated The Pics:
  9. Thanks David, that seal you talk about, if its not pressed home firmly what is there behind it that will allow water to get in? I want to take the scuttle panel off and have a look see but Im a novice when it comes to stuff like that. Im aware this involves removal of the wipers etc. I can see underneath the black scuttle panel and it looks clear of any debris/leaves. Am I right in saying this area is visible without removal of that scuttle panel under the front wipers? My train of thought now is that the seal @ the base of the front window has not been properly sealed and water may be getting in this way and running behind the pedals into the front footwell?? Could this happen? The window has been replaced by the previous owner. Failing all this Im tempted to leave it down to my local skoda dealer and see what they come up with. (I haven't tried them yet as Im a sucker for trying to work things out myself lol) plus this website has saved me a few trips
  10. Yeah the noise went away and hasn't returned. But if it does return I now know what it is and that it shouldn't happen lol Regarding the stutter issue, I can feel it the odd time when putting the foot down in say a higher gear for about 3 secs you can feel it stuttering but nothing that has really annoyed me, I know its part of the car and its not a problem - others may differ.
  11. 1. Had same issue a while back, my response and findings: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/158471-what-is-this/page__p__1953146__fromsearch__1#entry1953146 http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/163710-whats-the-black-box-on-the-top-left-that-feeds-the-egr/page__p__2005276__fromsearch__1#entry2005276 Hope this helps
  12. I take it you mean the rubber seal that goes around the perimeter of the drivers door? If so, yeah ive pressed it tight the whole way around. I had a good look around this evening so see if I cud see anything but no clear signs of where exactly its getting in. It was raining today and the area had water droplets : ( Here are a few photos I took this evening: I took a head stagger and pealed this soaking wet insulation stuff off (pic below)!! Will put it back in once leak has been found but any suggestions as to how it is getting wet....
  13. Well folks, got the bonnet leaver off and removed (forced) the panel surround behind the bonnet leaver off aswell. On this panel there are those 4 metal clips that you push to secure the panel to the car - you can see them on the photo above. Well there was water that had collected in one of the plastic areas behind where the metal clips are positioned, so that let me know water has been definitely coming in somewhere behind the bonnet leaver!! I had a good look around that area but could not see any areas that stood out where water could be coming in. I decided to wash he car, did this and whenever I had finished I opened that drivers door and there was 2 lines of water beading on the carpet directly beside the bonnet leaver area! So this is where I'm at, the drivers foot-well has water ingress coming from somewhere behind the bonnet leaver area, I have everything removed from that area but yet I still cant see exactly where that water is getting in. Would this be a stupid idea - cover the area behind the bonnet leaver (as its still all removed and exposed) with say white talcum powder and wash the car as usual and when finished open the drivers door and see if I can follow the line of water??? This is doing my head in folks.... enjoy everything about the car but this puts a real dampner on it :( Any help is more than welcome
  14. Think i'll add mine up: Winter Alloys: 15" VW Avus Wheels with Goodyear Ultragrip Performance Tyres 195/55 R15 Removed the corroded VW centre caps and replaced them with, what I would say, OEM replicas. I was really impressed by them. Ordered from ebay as you do. If you check out the winter tyres section you will see my journey sourcing the alloys and tyres etc.
  15. Hi, Yeah Raf, having second thoughts about removing them. Spent so much time sourcing the VW Avus alloys, making sure they wud clear the brakes and then getting the centre caps replaced with Skoda ones, kinda want to keep them on as long as possible but after that good weather I didn't want to wear the tread down.... Is there an alloys forum on here where I can add these photos too?? Thanks
  16. Hi ppl, The final result, pretty pleased: - Could do with taking them off soon lol
  17. Hi folks, Yeah you would think by the stage of producing the special edition fabia's they would have sorted out any issues that had arised... Anywho, I took a head stagger and started to lift the carpet @ the drivers footwell and I guess Im about 5 paces behind you guys in terms of figuring things out but the water if definitely coming from behind that panel that covers the bonnet lift handle. The handle will be coming off this weekend and hopefully that panel. Do you guys have a photo of behind that panel or what it looks like behind it? The water is somehow running down the bunch of wires that are cable-tied together and also like DRJ has noted, the black wrapping around the wires is saturated. I have also noted that my windscreen has been replaced by the previous owner, I had thought maybe the seal was incorrectly fitted around it and possibly water could be getting in beneath the scuttle panel, just a thought...
  18. Hi NicNak, I am in exactly the same position as yourself and now my last option it to rip the front drivers footwell carpet back and have a good look round to find out where the france this water is leaking in. Sick of trying to dry the car out only for it to get wet again when it rains. Whatever your findings are please keep us updated and if possible take a few photos along the way Im glad (in a weird way) that someone else has exactly the same issues with this water leak as every other thread i've read appears to talk about water in the passengers footwell etc I think 'DRJ' - think that's his username on here, has been in a similar boat... as us with regard to the drivers footwell being wet. He has some good findings aswell. Plz keep us posted guys. Thanks
  19. Hi, I'm having the same problem only the water is in the drivers footwell and then its getting into the rear drivers side footwell. So annoying!! I know all the door seals are sealed up properly. Im going to have a go @ removing the scuttle panel and see if there is any leaves etc stuck down there however I used the torch to try and see if there was any leaves etc in that area but it seemed clear. Is it possible to see into that area without removing the scuttle panel?? Ive been reading your posts on the wet front footwell DRJ - very informative I'm ready to rip the entire carpet out of the car just to find where the water is coming from lol At one point I thought the water was coming in from the underside of the car somehow... still not ruled out.
  20. Hey ppl, I've posted a few topics regarding getting ready for the winter and how ive bought some vw 15" alloys, now i'm about to purchase some tyres (hopefully this incoming week). I've had to make a choice of 195 55 R15 or 195 50 R15 - i'm going to choose the 195 55 R15's mearly because this should be give me the most accurate ready on my speedo (hope this is a good enough reason lol but I know the 195 55 R15 have been recommended on a few other posts on briskoda) What do you's think about these: - http://www.camskill.co.uk/m95b2366s624p79276/GOODYEAR_TYRES_WINTER_SNOW_CAR_GOODYEAR_ULTRA_GRIP_PERFORMANCE_-_195_55R15_85H_TL_ Pretty good reviews but value you guys opinions on whether or not these would be a good set? Any other recommendations plz add them (and a link if possible) Many Thanks

  22. Thanks for the replies guys, just got the car back from skoda and they took the brake calliper off cleaned and put it back on etc (basically cleaned and checked everything to do with the front brakes). Got home and no clicking - was gr8, then went for another drive and once I arrived home "click"!!!!! and its been doing it ever since :( The car stops perfect nothing dodgy. Really annoying me now, im tempeted to upload video and let you guys hear the click noise, in fact yes I will do that lol Will do this soon.
  23. Hi folks, Theres this annoying "clicking" noise that happens when I press the brake pedal and just as I'm releasing it the clicking noise happens - coming from the front drivers wheel area. Sounds like metal hitting/clicking against each other. I just got the car serviced there and thought they might have sorted it but no its still there. Brakes all work ok and pads are good. I have done some searching online and it could possibly be some sort of relay making a clicking noise (this may be a worthy suggestion as the brakes work 100%) Really cheesing me off everytime I brake the click happens :( Any ideas of what it could be?? Thanks
  24. Hi folks, Last December was crazy driving in that snow, so earlier this year I searched round and got myself a set of 15" mrk 4 VW golf "avus" alloys off ebay (got them for a great price and delivery to NI wasn't that expensive either). Once the alloys arrived I made sure I had done my homework correct and fitted them to the car, yup they fitted perfect. So I am getting ready to buy some tyres this week - sourcing out some "195 55 R15", but I have been told I can get away with "195 50 R15", is this correct? - just want confirmation b4 I place any orders. On another note, the tyres that came on the alloys when I got them say they are "all season" (see pix) Would they be good in the snow perhaps? Complete novice here... Ive never heard of this brand of tyre either (Belshina). The tyres are also too big 195 65 R15
  25. Yeah, i got the limited edition about 2 years ago, my dad has a silver 2004 fabia vrs (120,000 miles on it now and still going strong (i had persuaded him to trade in his old sdi fabia for the vrs lol) and when the limited vrs came out I loved it and guess just saved like crazy to get it - got it from John Mullholland. Naw id never race a cupra - id be left sitting lol. Im always heading up to ballymena from ballyclare area so i'll be on that stretch of the M2. Will toot if I see ya's about.
