  1. Brilliant guys, thanks once again. Will get myself a bottle and report back on my findings soon
  2. Love the Rapid in that colour! Put the front and rear vRS badges on, go on you know you want to I hope to upgrade my fabia to a rapid in your colour, health to enjoy
  3. Thanks for the replies - as always very informative. Think I'm gonna get a bottle of it, after I get the car serviced, and then - correct me if I'm wrong: - Wait until I need to fuel the car (say when its just above the red indicator or when the fuel light comes on) - Before I fuel, empty the contents of the bottle (or x2 bottles like Jim H has recommended) into the tank - Then fill the car up with say £40 of fuel? Just wanna make sure I get it right and not mess about with the fuel system. Thanks again
  4. Evening Folks, So I have 122,000 (fairly painless) miles on the fabia and the car is running normal. Had the head gasket replaced, in the summer, after the dreaded coolant loss and it has been 100% successful. Car running perfect. Getting the car a major service next week as its due it. My question is, would it be worth putting some "Millers Diesel Power Ecomax" (Halfords have it) in the car after the service perhaps? I'm just curious to use it as the car is getting older and am guessing it will help lubricate the injectors (read this from some reviews) and in general, help the car, even though there is nothing wrong with it that requires the need to use this stuff. Am just looking advice on whether its worthwhile or as the saying goes - "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" - just avoid it and continue with things as they are. Thanks in advance.
  5. Yeah its the vacuum box, mine just started 'buzzing' one day after my journey to work (a few years back now). When I turned the car off it remained 'buzzing' for about 10 secs and then went off. Happened every time I switched car off. After a few days I got cheesed off and took it to my dealer and he confirmed that I needed a new vacuum box - they replaced it (car was still under warranty @ the time) and it has never 'buzzed' since. Maybe that is totally different to ur issue but it would appear similar..
  6. Mk4 VW Golf GTI alloys with 195/55 R16 Goodyear Ultragrips Had these on for the last 2 winters and this next winter will probably be the last I will get outta these tyres. Worth the money. Got the alloys for 100 notes complete with centrecaps which I replaced the VW logo with the Skoda logo.
  7. No probs man, thanks for getting my hopes up and then dashing them.... lol The search continues
  8. Don't fancy selling these individually...?? Think there's a number of ppl looking to get a single alloy for the vRS on here. Just a thought. :|
  9. Here's what to do, get onto the motorway and plant ur right foot on that accelerator pedal and when no-ones behind you slam on the brakes as hard as you can and the lighter will fly out :p (hopefully)
  10. Same thing happened to me, i just rammed the seat in the opposite direction (as best I could with the limited space) several times and broke the pen (bic) and hoovered up the remains lol. My headache was I didn't know the pen was stuck there so had no idea what was causing the seat not to move....
  11. Just wondering if anyone's got this skoda motorsport t-shirt? I've had it for ages and was looking to get another one but the chances of sourcing it are pretty slim! Pix below:
  12. Lol regarding the fridge issue, why didn't u just use ur finger and press in the botton/trigger thing at the edge of the fridge door which gets pushed in when the fridge door closes. Thats an hour of ur live u'll never see again! Again it has a switch!!
  13. I had the exact same problem, see my link: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/269291-coolant-questionhelp/
  14. No signs of performance loss though my mpg is now sitting @ 56.2 (better) but I'm thinking that's because I haven't really drove it much - will know better next weekend after my drive to and from work this week. I'm quite fussy when it comes to noises or rattles in the car and everything sounds exactly the same - as in the note/sound at which the car idles at etc Yip 100% skimmed and deeper gasket fitted (don't know how much was skimmed) plus new bolts which cost £60 or so from VW.
  15. Well a little update on the dreaded coolant loss and the constant build up of pressure in the expansion tank. I chatted to different mechanics, read loads of reviews, did as much homework as possible and came to the conclusion that I needed to get the HG replaced i.e. Head skimmed, new gasket, new bolts - basically the full works! So left my car into a recommended independent mechanic who had the car for a week and a half and did what needed to be done (as above) and also changed the timing belt kit as my car now has 112000 miles on it and the timing belt was due to be replaced. Got the car back on Friday evening and have been driving it gently just to bed it in etc. Haven't drove over 70mph but have put the foot down a few times and when I got home, popped the bonnet and checked the coolant tank and everything seems perfect , not leaks, coolant remains at normal level, just a minimal release of pressure as I unscrew the cap but that's because the coolant is still warm (not recommended but I just had to check). So all in all everything seems to have worked with regards to replacing the HG so I'm one happy bunny lol Ohh and the question Im sure some of you's will ask is "how much did it set me back?" Answer = £600 on the button. I had budgeted that but thought it was even better value considering I get the timing belt replace too. So for anyone with the High Pressure Coolant Loss scenario, I recommend saving up and getting the HG replaced. I just decided to get it done however if I didn't have the money I would still be driving it as it was but I was always hoping & praying the Head wouldn't actually go on me!
  16. Bought the car on Saturday there and all going good so far. Thanks for ur advice etc. The "SE" models are well equiped, very impressed : )
  17. I have been having the same problem with mine for the past 5 months or so. My coolant loss is coming out of the actual overflow in the expansion tank (being forced out under pressure) and so I have a puddle of coolant beneath the car most evenings when I go to put the car in the garage. The coolant within the expansion tank/chamber is well beneath the 'min' mark so before I put the car in I loosen the expansion tank cap where the pressure release is pretty high and some coolant begins to backfill into the expansion tank but not enough to take it over the 'max' mark. I know if I didn't go through this process the coolant warning light would be coming on at least twice a week so its just a process I do now and it has been ok so far. However I have spoke to a few mechanics and they are pretty sure it's the head gasket. Water pump has been replaced previously (as standard, not due to this issue), expansion tank replaced as he thought it had a dodgy cap but the same thing happened. The car drives perfectly no issue with the coolant loss, but I guess I have just had enough of it and am now getting the head gasket replaced in the next couple of weeks. I told the mechanic (who specialises in VAG group engines and Head Gasket replacements) all the symptoms and he's pretty sure it's the HG and he said it will take about a week as he sends it away to get skimmed and whatever. No cost has been mentioned yet but I have budgeted around £500 - £600 there abouts. To be honest if this had happened to any other car I had owned I probably would have traded it in against a new one but I love my car and just enjoy driving it. Just last week I got the spoiler re-sprayed as the lacquer had been peeling away and its back to 100% and looks the ticket!
  18. Thanks Boywonder, its just when I compare it to others (even lower spec'd) its a low price. The car is kitted out pretty well too. Have got it down to £5100 so i think its good value. Just done an HPI check and all comes back clear too, just have to key in the VIN number once I have another look at the car. Oh and this car is for the wife, im not letting my fabia go lol At the min she drives a 2004 1.2 Corsa SXI aswell, which now has 130,000 miles on it! She needs a diesel for the mileage she does and this diesel seems right on the mark. Thanks again for your input : )
  19. Hi ppl, Thinking of purchasing this car but does the price seem a bit low for the model and spec?? I have compared it to others and it just seems too low. Took it for a test drive last night and it seems true and drives very well etc. Any feedback would be gr8. 20. Yeah I need to get myself that Autosol and some elbow grease lol. I used to use a product that had grit particles in it which worked ok but it took forever to get it clean and even then I wasn't happy with it - probably too impatient! Yeah I'm thinking it should pass ok, had it serviced by an independent garage in ballyeaston/Ballynure who I've used for years (back when I had my polo SDI yikes! haha) I work down in Lisburn here, 5 mins from Sprucefield roundabout which is handy to the motorway. No its a 2004 silver exdemo (still remember the day dad bought it from Mervyn Stewart garage – traded in his fabia SDI for it after many months of me pestering him change lol) I’m thinking of heating up the wee clips with a hairdryer to make them less brittle, would that help ya think? I’ve already got the badges but I know what you mean the contrast would be good. Though I’m keeping everything as original as possible. Even got a full set of vrs mats for when mine or dads get too worn.... sad I know! Got these years and years ago when I was vrs crazy on the head buying spare badges, t-shirts, articles!! Curse you ebay and my addiction! Yeah I’ll def give you a shout if I need any help, you’re not far away. I worked in Abbeycentre for 9 half years up until feb last year!
  21. Lol that taximan was too busy chatting, was doing my head in with the unnecessary braking! Your 100% correct about the exhaust, I don't know what to use to clean it up properly but i will check out that autosol you mentioned. No, not the same guy. The car is up for MOT tonight in Larne so i gave it a good clean @ the weekend. Not bad for 107,000 miles on it. My dad (who sadly passed away there only 3 months ago to pancreatic cancer) his fabia vrs (reg S77 VRS - you might have seen him about Newtownabbey/Ballyclare) has 147,000 miles on it and its still going strong - mum drives it now! Couple of cosmetic things to get sorted: - I've got to fit 2 new skoda badges (front grill & back boot) as they have that 'white worm' thing goin on. - The chrome surround on the grill, well the 4 wee small plastics lugs on the back of it (just underneath where the badge is) has broke off so the chrome grill sits out abit too far. So i have a replacement chrome surround ready to fit but I anxious to fit it cause I don't want them lugs to break off....... any tips?? I seen ur's has the chrome surround wrapped - how did you find refitting it?? Keep up the good work on your's too man!
  22. Hey Gobsheene, Off the topic here, but pretty sure you pulled up behind me on the M2 this morning (then ya took off lol) , seen the yellow calipers and new I had seen them on here somewhere lol
  23. I'm looking @ either a : - Volvo S40 2.0D or - Toyota Auris 2.0 D
  24. Hi Harry 1212, These are 15" VW 'Avus' alloys from a mark 4 Golf GTI. They fit the fabia vRS no problem and clear the brake callipers fine - they are 5x100 fitment. I sourced a set for £100 and got a set of winter tyres on them, I have attached a page showing my process and how the wheels look on the car: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/217870-15-winter-tyres/ Hope this helps man.
  25. I see, but the overall look of the windscreen without the encapsulation, is it noticeable or does it look weird/funny?? Does the encapsulation not hide the joints etc underneath?? I'm happy to go with whatever but would like to know how its gonna look ya know.
