  1. It is a reasonably common problem on this engine, fortunately the belts seem to stay on but I think you caught it just in time, especially with the whine. Here's some photos of the broken tensioner and split idler that I found in mine, there were no funny noises and I only found it at the time of doing the routine replacement.
  2. Official instructions can be found at erwin.skoda-auto.cz if you're happy to pay 3 euro for access
  3. awesome. maybe someone should get one and do a carbon wrap on it
  4. No need to run in or anything but just to be on the safe side, listen out for any unusual noises and check everything has been put back properly and not come loose after a few miles.
  5. I'm in Leicester, which may be a bit far, but you're welcome to come and borrow my tools and do it yourself on my driveway, I'll gladly watch & supervise
  6. I'm constantly seeing threads saying how garages do everything properly and give great service...
  7. It might flood the outside of a spark plug with oil, unless there's a drain hole in the bottom of the pockets.
  8. Not broken then? That makes a change! Thanks
  9. There is a cheaper way, it depends on your love for the car / paint job or if it is just a runabout... I had some rust on the bottom edges of the sills and rubbed it down, masked up a straight line about an inch up from the bottom with tape, then brush applied some black underbody protection. I did both sides to match and IMO it looks fine.
  10. Can the diagnostic interface really tell a mechanic about the state of compression on a particular cylinder? I have no idea but it sounds almost too helpful to be believeable!
  11. On the early fabia that had mirror switches marked with "Heat / L+R / L" is it supposed to latch in the "L" position? Mine springs back to the middle if you let go so, to if I want to adjust L I have to do a kind of twist and adjust movement all at the same time which seems daft. Is my switch broken?
  12. Plus plenty of things that aren't on the road like trains, ships, quarry machinery, emergency generators at power stations, hospitals, chemical plants. The world is totally dependent on fossil fuel and it's going to need a radically different government commitment to develop and use alternative energy sources, unfortunately they only seem to know how to invent taxes.
  13. Think about somebody turning a winch, for example a bucket on a rope being raised up a well. When you raise the bucket you are doing work. Power is the rate of doing work so to raise the bucket faster needs more power. Torque is the turning force you need to apply to the winch handle, if you don't have enough torque you won't be able to lift the bucket at all. But if you had a gearbox on that winch handle you could change down a gear and fthen be able to lift it with lower torque, but the bucket would move slower. As said already power = torque * speed. (5252 is a units conversion factor)
  14. Mine only works when you press the left side of the steering wheel pad. Presumably it needs battery and airbag removal first to get at the contacts?
  15. Can you check if fuse 10 still has +12V there after taking the key out? A fault in the ignition switch could explain this behaviour.
  16. Sounds like it is either broken worn or has a foreign object stuck in it. I would check out the price of a new buckle from Skoda dealer, and also some comparative prices from a few breakers. Jayfabia may have one available (http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/152596-aub-engine-value/) You need to make sure you get the right one as you have seatbelt warning and I don't know if all Fabia have this feature. I would DIY install it's not difficult, probably the seat will need to come out first and this needs the correct tool. If you don't DIY then I expect you could ask any local motor mechanic / workshop to fit it, especially if you have already sourced a replacement part it wouldn't take long.
  17. Or you could buy two X-reg ones for 2k. Never hurts to have a spare
  18. Can you find it on http://www.vagcat.com/epc/ ? I had a quick look and it said: 028145278M tensioning roller 33.3 Euro Not sure I picked your exact model though, it might also be: 047145276A relay roller / for vehicles with manually regulated air conditioner 75MM 24.35 Euro There seems to be different diagrams under "engine/alternator" and "electrical systems/connecting and mounting parts"
