  1. I had a cylinder 3 misfire around a month or two ago and once the car failed to start, I bought a new coil pack and it worked bang on. However this monday I checked it with the scanner again and this time it was cylinder 2 and 4 misfiring, along with the random misfire code so I bought 3 new coilpacks. Since then no more misfires and the car is running smoother.
  2. He's asking too much for it, worth 2500 top and thats only if it is in good condition.
  3. how much do they cost new and how can you tell if your old one is gone?
  4. Well the cars not far from me, I could pop down sometime. Although he did say it was not at the showroom.
  5. hmm, I asked him about the turbo he said it was the GT28 RS, I rang the pistonheads number. which one you rang?
  6. All sorted boys. Rang the number on pistonheads, he confirmed that the car is correct spec on the pistonehads site. His mate put it up for him on Autotrader and aint got the right details.
  7. Sorry I meant the one on autotrader.
  8. The one on autotrader is the right one folks The autotrader one is from a dealer and I live 5 minutes around the corner from there, and in one of the pictures it is clearly in the dealerships place. So the other one is dodgy.
  9. something dodgy going on for sure.
  10. Check the following things on the car: 1) Oil is clean not black and dirty. If its dirty you could have the infamous 'oil sludge' problem. 2) Car should idle about 700-800 3) No dash lights First thing, don't get rushed into buying something as there's literally tons of these cars available at good prices. Also ensure that it has at least some sort of service history and that you can confirm the timing belt and waterpump have been done. If you can't confirm this then don't buy it. Also check in the history that the oil has been changed every 10-15k miles absolute max being 15k. Because when it don't thats when the oil sludge problem develops. And then you can loose a turbo, damage the engine. Give it a good thrashing, on 2nd gear you should reach around 70-80 mph nearing the top of the rev range. 3rd will get you to around 110. This is the best way to check the performance, lol. The Cupra has the same engine, but it just dont look as good.
  11. Sounds like a coilpack, try GSF or any local car spares shop, somebody will have one in stock for you.
  12. mark 1 mate, 02 plate is what i meant by 02 vrs. cant remember the part number, just goto gsf and get the one that costs a bit more. about £28 I think, it will be a green one.
  13. I've always thought it was a bit rubbish tbh. Aint done nothing to mine it just holds baby wipes in there and chewing gums. It would be better if it had a door on it.. Some sort of extendable cup holder would be very good too.
  14. Same thing happened to me when I bought my VRS mate, it was at a even lower mileage 72k and FSH/2 owners. After 60 miles the light came on, drove it home and it started making a noise like there was spanners in the engine. Turned it off straightaway. The oil pump was clogged up, new oil pump and oil change later the car was back on the road, went upto 80 mph on the duals and my car just wouldnt accelerate any more and black smoke was bellowing everywhere. Drove it home, towed back to the garage and turned out the turbo was gone. So got a reconditioned turbo for £250. I'm almost on 84k miles now and the oil/filter has been changed about 4 times so far. I use fully synthetic 5w/30, been fine so far. Next time Ill them to get a new pickup aswell (not expensive are they?)
  15. dont let it goto 0 miles, did that on mine and burnt the fuel pump...
  16. I like it Billy, very good. So get the ebay one and a k&n filter, which filter from ebay?
  17. Right, that combined with this yeah? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/K-N-Universal-Cone-Filter-RC2600-RC-2600-/390246672401?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5adc83a811#ht_500wt_922
  18. Unless you mean this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/COLD-AIR-INDUCTION-INTAKE-SKODA-OCTAVIA-1-8T-1998-2004-/200524749911?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2eb034dc57#ht_996wt_906 ?
  19. cant seem to find any sellers in the uk.
  20. Hi, am thinking of getting the following for my car: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/K-N-57i-Induction-Kit-Skoda-OCTAVIA-RS-20v-01-57-0430-/290456403695?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item43a08cfeef#ht_1879wt_1140 Is it easy to fit? I changed the air filter and MAF myself last time, cant be much harder can it? Finally ive heard theres some better ones out there but are they more expensive and harder to fit? Really fancy one of these for the vrooooooom vroooooooom
  21. Car is standard not mapped. So £75 for another MAF and it could be knackered aswell... How do I know for sure this one is knackered? Just feel like running with it off all the time...
  22. Hi, bought a new coolant temp sensor (green 1) where in the engine do i take the old one out and put this one in?
  23. any1 knows where it is so I can take the old one off and put the new one in.
  24. Yeah, I have a number of small problems with this car. Is there a Skoda or VAG specialist in Birmingham that someone can recommend? Don't want to give it to a backstreet.
