  1. STOP PRESS: The Australian Government has announced that the only service station in Sydney selling 100% biofuel has been ordered to stop sales as there is an unacceptable level of sulphur released during combustion. The main supplier of soybean oil which sold biofuel to the service station was unable to provide evidence that it DID NOT supply the oil that failed the test. Seems there is a way to go before biofuels do not create as many problems as they seek to prevent.
  2. Magnifico but a bitch to keep clean although wouldn't change mine for quids!!
  3. I've clocked just over 20,000km on my Superb TDI and just finished a 1,100km highway/city run averaging 5.4km to 100km (52.3 mpg). Only two passengers plus my wife's suitcases which equals another hefty person! But very happy with consumption. Only down side, here is high cost of diesel..currently as much as 15 cents more than petrol.
  4. Keep an eye out as you burble up the Pacific Highway around Coffs Harbour for my Rosso Brunello Superb still burning 20 century diesel!!,
  5. Visited my local Toyo dealer and he tried to talk me OUT of Toyo and INTO GT Radials. Said the GTs were quieter and showed me they were fitted to his own (Ford Utility). Also quoted a high price for the Toyos (around 170 UK pounds each) Also said they were particular good on a wet road. Too many tyres to choose from....
  6. Thanks for quick response......sounding good!!
  7. I would like to know how you like the Toyo tyres when you have them fitted. I have Dunlop 225/45ZR 17 94W on my Superb and they are extremely noisy on all but the smoothest road and more importantly, develop flat spots overnight which take a 200+ metres to disappear. Many Skodas appear on these shores fitted with Michellins but mine must have drawn the short straw.
  8. I've noticed that my driver side mirror does not fold in as far as the left side. My dealer told me it is normal (that saves them doing anything). Is it really normal?
  9. Now that I've got your attention!! Learning to drive and/or practising on a skid pan is very good for those occasions when you meet a driving emergency WHILE DRIVING ON A SKID PAN!! For the rest of your life (99.999999%) this experience is crappo. US law enforcement agencies spent lots of $$$ teaching agents how to handle cars in pursuit situations on skid pans. Turns out most high speed risky pursuits are on CROWDED PUBLIC ROADS. Surprised? You might even remember an incident when a Formula 1 driver (an Englishman I think) was showing off in a fancy sports car on a public street OUTSIDE the Melbourne Formula 1 racetrack. When pulled over by traffic police, his claim to be a superior driver and thus above the law of the common man received a hearty laugh from the John Hoppers as the cage door slammed. Experience is like the stern light on a boat - it reflects only the past. Safe street driving is pretty basic and doesn't need techniques for which the avergae vehicle is not designed.
  10. Seem that you might fit into the generic description of an "idiot" if you rely on the handbrake when cornering in adverse conditions ON PUBLIC ROADS!!
  11. You are all welcome tp park your cars outside my house. Its 24 degrees today which is a cool one!!
  12. Continues to impress and quite right I say!!
  13. I'm interested in the discussion on Michelin Pilot Sport 3. I contacted Michelin (Australia) and they told me the Sport 3 did not have the correct weight rating for the Superb which is (on mine anyway94W). The Sport 3 is 92W. Is this a helluva difference???
  14. My Superb was delivered with Dunlop tyres and I plan to replace them shortly with Pirelli PZero Rosso 225/45ZR. Given a big wrap wherever I look. Have copied a description here: In the luxury and sports car segment many sophisticated electronic vehicle safety and comfort management systems are being fitted as standard. To answer this evolution and the increasingly stringent legislation limiting acoustic pollution, Pirelli has created the PZero Rosso: a comfortable and quiet ultra-high performance tyre with no trade off. The name derives from the now legendary "PZero", which became a milestone, marking a fundamental turning point in Pirelli ultra-high performance tyre technology, and "Rosso", or red, which is synonymous with Italian motorsport. Over 200 original equipment approvals by the most prestigious car manufacturers. Asymmetric design with wide longitudinal channels. The tread pattern is divided laterally into three distinct elements, each designed to confer a particular aspect of performance. These elements range from robust outer shoulder blocks through a semi-slick central rib with curved transversal grooves, to a more open inner shoulder. Skoda were exporting cars to Australia with Michellins fitted but changed for some reason.
  15. Interested in your comment that the brakes bite very quickly. I've done 17k and the brakes still bite at low speed. Have never got used to it and surprises me every time! Not really a drama but my other cars have never had this issue. Everything else excellent!!
  16. I have the same problem with the screw off aerial. I solved my dilemma by cutting a neat hole in the car cover to go over the aerial QED
  17. Not only was my Superb delivered with the brolly installed, I also received a Skoda ballpoint pen - very good quality and greatly appreciated. Nice touch Skoda.
  18. Thanks 'Derv'. Told you there were smarter bloggers than me. Although the MF Computer is alleged to be quite optimistic, I still think the Superb figures are superb!!
  19. I can't fathom the MPG figures discussed here as I have been dragged kicking and screaming into the metric world however, my 2.0 TDI Superb shows figures around 5 litres to 100km and occasionally (briefly) 4.9 litres. This is highway travel of course. Around town it's closer to 7 litres. I await the maths from a clever(er) blogger than me!
  20. I had a similar problem with a 16 to 18 week delay and the chance that my traded car would not be worth as much. My dealer was extra eager to make the sale so I settled for a free loan car and they had my trade in on the lot for sale the next day. The loan car was quite new (06 model) and I was happy as a lark. I think the average dealer will make extra effort to get the new car available as soon as possible 'cause there is not much profit for them in lending cars (good P.R. though).
  21. I had the same issue with my dealer in Coffs Harbour (Australia). I stressed when I booked it in that I wanted 507.00 oil and was assured that it would happen. When I collected the car it was a different story....lots of B.S. about buying bulk oil that was good as 507.00 etc and eventually was told me that they used Valvoline. This is a cheaper oil (not with my dealer though) and I would never choose it willingly. Seems car dealers are the same world wide - similar to journalists and lawyers - "trust me - I'm here to help"!!
  22. Richf, It does seem crystal clear however, lots of people (including on this blog) are telling me up to 10% ethanol is ok and the Australian Government (as well as many others) are now mandating ethanol inclusion AND fuel companies do not have to disclose ethanol added up to 5%. I asked my motoring organisation and they said its ok to use. Skoda say NO. I want something definitive so that when my motor seizes up with clag, they don't all scream "told you so" and refuse my warranty.
