  1. Thanks for the replies: 1. I don't use the auto function as it generally sounds like a cyclone is about to hit the car 2. I always use the same key (but good thought.....would not have occurred to me). I know its not the world's greatest problem but interesting how the electronics of the Superb fiddle with you. I've had the issue of the front passenger seat reclining itself overnight (has not happened for years) as well as the passenger side mirror dipping on reverse sometimes. I think it means Skoda want to reminds us occasionally that THEY are still in charge of the car!! It is however the best car I've ever owned (and I have had a few) and also the longest I've kept a car. Just over 70000kms and the only things I can complain about are piddling!! Thanks all!!
  2. The past few days, when driving off in the morning I noticed it got pretty chilly pretty quick inside the car. I usually have the aircon temperature set at 23 Celsius and the past few days, it defaults to 18 which is around 64F. I live in a warm humid climate so use air-conditioning all the time. Any suggestions why mine is resetting to a lower temperature?
  3. I live in a coastal town roughly 580kms from Sydney. I can drive to Sydney and return on a full tank. You do the conversion but that is pretty damn good I think!!
  4. UPDATE> Visited my dealer AGAIN this morning and eureka!!, "the replacement part came in this morning". According to my dealer (and they wouldn't lie!!) it was sourced from Singapore. Quite surprising really given the number of VAG vehicles suffering the same issue. Poor old Skoda Australia apparently cannot afford to hold parts in stock. Very happy with my Skoda but already scanning other dealers for my upcoming changeover. After sales service is equally important to me with car ownership. By the way, the replacement was installed as I waited and noticed they dissembled most of the cargo area lining to get it done. Standby Chris in Yorkshire (L200man) in case I need a new engine etc!!.

  6. Some weeks ago I foolishly declined an offer from contributor L200man on this thread who said he could obtain and despatch to me the particular part that controls the fuel door. I think it is an attenuator but that is a guess. Anyhoo.....I made my third "surprise" visit to my Skoda Dealer yesterday and watched as the service staff searched through job sheets frantically. The service manager then excused himself from my sight and disappeared for ten minutes to only report that the part had not arrived (since December 16 mind you) and he would re-order now!. He promised to call me the next morning with an update!! Next morning (today) Indeed called with a sad story that there was no such part in Australia and had now been ordered from SINGAPORE!!!!!! Why Singapore you might well ask!! He then said normally parts would be sent here by ship (hello....about the size of my thumbnail) and it would take a month but he had requested airmail.. Clever eh? I'm not a brain surgeon but do know when I am being snowed and find it infuriating that car dealers all try to blow smoke up your shirt when a little honesty on day one would satisfy most owners. I have been thinking about updating to a new car but the continued sloppy service from Skoda makes me look over the road for ideas.
  7. Thanks again for the kind offer Chris. My Skoda service man leapt into action yesterday and promised (that's a car dealer type of promise of course) that he would stay on the phone til Skoda got the part onto the mail truck. My fuel is down to half and staying close to home over Christmas to save scratching the lid any further! Will report back later! Merry Christmas...hope the storms are gone by now.
  8. That's a very kind offer (particularly in light of the cricket!!). I'll show your comment to my Skoda man and see if it has the good grace to be embarrassed. I sourced a bottle of touch up paint from the UK year ago as Skoda Aust just shrugged. Cost me $10 delivered!!
  9. UPDATE> Called into my Skoda man today to discover still no part to fix my knackered fuel door actuator. Seven days and they cannot get a part!! Its no wonder Skoda struggles in Australia. Once you buy the car they just kiss you off!!
  10. Skoda fit the Dunlop crappos because they are the cheapest!! When Skoda first hit our shores, (the second time around) they were all shod with Michelins. Too pricey now I guess.
  11. Pulled into a highway service station yesterday about 50kms from home with the fuel gauge crying out for a refill and discovered the fuel filler door would not open. Pushed, patted, thumped and banged without success. Several other drivers clustered around and gave unhelpful advice. Eventually got it open with the blade of the ignition key and re-fueled. Visited my Skoda dealer this morning who advised that they had replaced around six of the little gizmo gadgets inside that allows the door to open and shut. The gizmo rotates one half turn as it opens and shuts. One of the mechanics poked around the inside of the boot with a small digital fibre optic camera looking for an emergency release catch (like Audi) but there is none! I'm now standing y (with a full tank thank goodness) as they order the part. Being Skoda (Aust), no stock of parts held!!
  12. Research tyre topics on Briskoda before you take the plunge. Dunlop Sports Maxx tyres generally get a big thumbs down. I threw them away after 10000kms due to dreadful sawtoothing and NOISE!!! Have had Contis for the past 50km and very quiet at highway speed and wearing very well. Can't comment of snow driving of course. Only place around here with frost is inside my fridge!!
  13. Why would you want to interrupt a regen? It is technology at work to protect your car. Because your engine was not hot as you pointed out, the DPF was unable to dispose of pollutants and ash etc and that is why it started to operate (on your behalf)!!. My car does it occasionally in the winter here (mild - no snow or frost ha ha!!) and usually takes five or six minutes.
  14. Lot of comments throughout the site on subject of tyres including vociferous rhetoric bagging Dunlop Sports Maxx including me. I dumped my Dunlops within 10000km of delivery of the new car and swapped to Contis. Never looked back. Dunlop suffer really bad sawtoothing and the Dunlop dealers (and Skoda!!!) simply shrug and turn away. Dunlops suck!!
  15. I realise I am not addressing your problem but to demonstrate that all are not equal: I just had six weeks away with my Skoda cocooned in my garage for a total of 43 days. Last Tuesday morning, I unwrapped her and turned the key and the beautiful 2.0 litre diesel fired away without a problem. I was half expecting a dead battery or worse! :sun:
  16. Are they Dunlop tyres? That would be my first suspicion. They sawtooth like hell!!
  17. I've covered 60,000kms and not a ounce of trouble from the DSG. Should be serviced at 60000km (just done) quite expensive but I'm told it avoids a lot of issues that can crop up if ignored. Beautiful car to drive ....always sorry to turn into my street!!
  18. I also bought the Allianz after market extended warranty for $A1100. Had a problem with exhaust sensor and discovered an annoying clause in the "fine print". Warranty does not cover the investigation of a problem, only the rectification!! Most of the electric issues with Skoda seem difficult for the technicians to identify. My exhaust sensor problem took three days and they loaned me a car. Not sure if the cars are too complex or the dealers do not have the right experienced staff.
  19. Room in the boot for a cruise missile. Or maybe that guy seeking asylum is hiding there!!
  20. Interesting comments on this thread. I'd never heard of a Phaeton so Googled it and sure enough, VW Aust have it available. Don't think many have been sold. On the other hand, they have another nice car on the showroom floor called VW CC. VERY nice but a lot more expensive than a Superb. I'm happy with my Superb clunker and even now three years old, still a conversation starter in the town car parks! Often see VW cars in my rear view mirror when on the freeway! :sun:
  21. Seems it might be an issue with your car. My climate control works fine from day one although generally I choose not to use it as the "preferred" setting is too chilly for me. Not hard to control aircon yourself is it really!!
  22. Apart from the measurement of the tread depth at ONE spot on the tyre, there is the issue of slight uneven wearing over the WHOLE tread. I have Conti Sports fitted after the dreadful Dunlops that came with the car and with the Conti purchase, I receive free wheel balance and rotation every 10k for the first 50k of ownership. Alignment is extra of course. Certainly cannot do any harm to regularly rotate as the front tyres traditionally wear fast on front wheel drive. Probably different story on the AWD.
