  1. I did a bit of Googling and found this: http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=403988 Basically saying that the car is already in "Tourist Mode" and therefore doesn't need doing. So as you said for short trips then it's fine. They're not supposed to dazzle on low beam. The dealer may be referring to driving across Europe is fine like as a tourist, but if you needed to register the car (Like moving abroad) then you would probably need to replace them with the LHD headlights. As mentioned in one of the posts bring the handbook with you just in case you get pulled over for it. I see foreign registered cars in the UK without the deflector stickers on their headlights anyway.
  2. I like the Leon and I've test driven one. I was really impressed with it. I hope you enjoy it. From what I understand on other cars they have a "Tourist Mode" in some setting somewhere. This will probably turn off certain LEDs which point in a specific direction. Only a guess with the Leon. I don't know if legal for short periods. Sounds too grey on the legalities for France and Belgium. I'm sure the law is black and white on these kind of things. I think you're being fobbed off personally.
  3. Not overly sure to be honest, but I have heard about Newport however like most places there are good and bad parts. Their are plans for the M4 doing a different route around the area so watch out for that. The Highways Agency already owns some of the land. Monmouth is the pricey part I believe as you have the A40 going towards the M50 at easy reach and the area is just so pretty. Someone at work lives in Monmouth and she loves the area. She isn't short of money though. I'd guess being a Welsh schooled town that they would be required to learn it. I'd love to learn some Welsh just for the fun of it. It's so different. I was mostly looking at Chepstow and Magor as they were just directly on the motorway.
  4. Train is fairly common and you don't have the toll for that. Also the saving on the rent or buying a place means you can afford the bridge each day. The prices on the Welsh side are significantly cheaper. I've considered it but it does annoy friends and family wanting to visit. There is even double decker buses that go over the bridge too. Sounds scary though! Regarding the queue at the tolls. I never do the new bridge westbound due to the queues. The old bridge I've also got into a toll booth straight away and the M48 is much much quieter even if it's slightly longer. The old bridge is prone to closure to HGVs, and speed restrictions to cars but most of the time they are good. Friday evenings both bridges look a bit slow though. In my place we have 3 people who live over the bridge with provisions for home working. Also access to Aztec West (major business district of Bristol) by motorway is fantastic. 5. I'm in IT and Aztec West is only up the road from work. From BS3 then the city is much better suited to the location. Quite a few people live over the bridge in Wales and commute into Bristol as well. Housing is a lot cheaper that way and getting into the city is still pretty easy. Also gives you more job opportunities towards Newport and Cardiff too.
  6. Bristol area is a lot cheaper than near London. I moved from Surrey to Bristol last year. Jobs wise it seems fairly ok, but depends on the industry you're in. I'm north of the M4 from Bristol, so the prices are cheaper. than inside the ring road. Buses into the city centre appear to be very good if you're looking to get a job in the city.
  7. I was pretty pleased with my Vettel winner. It just didn't look like a Mercedes track. The rest was just a real mixed bag. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk
  8. When I first moved into my house, Bristol water wanted £450 a year from me. Err... no! Now that I have a water meter put in it's around £20 a month instead and I don't hold back on my water usage. I think water companies in general are trying to make people go to meters by driving the prices up for their non-metered customers.
  9. They're great fun, but I've only been a passenger in one for a trackday. I was too tall (6ft 4) for this one, mostly because the car was set up more specifically for the owner of the car who was about 5ft 7. I was able to get into it, but I wasn't able to take my foot off the clutch again. I expect a hire car to be set up for people with vary heights and sizes though.
  10. I've always been fascinated on how they get it down the side of the car so well. That was until I was sitting in a meeting at work looking out the window. I see a magpie stand on the side of someones car and you can guess the rest. I don't know what the meeting at work was about though!
  11. Noticed a small scrape on the front of my car this morning. Not sure when it happened either. :(
  12. My car was on a private number plate before I got it. If you know the previous plate which the HPI should come up with then you can call the places with the service stamps and they can confirm they're correct. I had a nice dealer to talk to who provided me all work done on that specific car, minus the customer details. No harm in trying to get that info. Sounds like the previous owner have a close relationship with the garage though, and may not be on the books?
  13. I think my boss would go mental at the thought of 50 people not working for 5 hours. It took me about 2 hours to get the laptop in working order but trying to avoid trying to get onto the servers as the VPN is ... not the quickest.
  14. Getting into work for 9am like normal, only to be told to go back home with a laptop to work from home today. Electricians are in, so power might be off at times. That was a wasted drive. Oh the laptop is this piece of... I guess my job today is to get this laptop in reasonable working order instead. On the plus side I'm going to have a decent breakfast and a good read of various forums today!
  15. Cyclist deciding to join the road when I was already indicating left. I saw him looking and thought he was going to cross as side road as he was already on the pavement.
  16. I have the notification on my Windows 8 PC (Work) and my WIndows 7 PC (Home). I guess the notifications are a roll out with a windows update based from Windows updates based from the article from langers2k Try checking for WIndows updates, especially the optional ones.
  17. I've noticed this on quite a few computers I've been working on today. Windows 7 and Windows 8 ones. I'm interested to know how the install works, as in will it be a clean operating system or like an upgrade. If it's the upgrade route then I'm considering reinstalling Windows 7 clean on my PC then doing the upgrade to Windows 10. I've been using Windows 10 on a test rig. From a technical point of view it feels no different to Windows 8, only a bit more user friendly. I will be happy to use it as soon as it comes out. At the moment I am going to wait anyway.
  18. A defender looking to try and overtake a learner. It wasn't really the place to do it, let alone the car to do it really. Ignore the music It was the radio. Honest :|
  19. Nearly hitting a kid on a bike. He wasn't looking before crossing. Luckily I had stopped before he saw me.
  20. Amazon had free delivery for purchases over £10 before they had free shipping for all orders. So I wasn't surprised about them changing it back. A chance to kill off some competition. I've had a bit of a run in with Amazon, more specifically with Amazon Logistics. They seem pretty useless and in my opinion they're no better than Yodel or Hermes. I moved to my current place around 6 months ago, I knew it wasn't going to be great for delivery people, so I opted for sending everything to work unless it could fit through the letter box. On a few occasions I've had a text from Amazon Logistics saying no one is available at my work address. Pretty strange when there is always someone in the office and the door is always answered. None of the bigger courier companies seem to have a problem. I will be opting for the Royal Mail option instead. Amazon have changed their minimum spend for free shipping because they have very little competition for generally buying weird and wonderful things.
  21. I think a lot depends on your manager. If they're decent then they will allow you some time off. I had this with one interview I had. Naturally you have to be in a bit of a chat about why you're wanting to leave etc
  22. Applied. Never done an F1 prediction before, but should be interesting.
  23. I drove from Bristol to Newcastle (about 300 miles) in one afternoon, and then back again the next afternoon for work. This was a few weeks ago. Plan your route (and backup route if you see motorway signs saying a road is closed), and plan your stops (Maybe have an idea of where other places are just in case). They don't have to be for long, but enough to stretch your legs. Normally just walking to the toilets at the service station is enough. Plenty of fluids, and snack food for energy and thirst. Also probably wear something really comfy. I normally empty my pockets on a really long drive, phone, house keys and wallet normally annoy me after a while. On the way up I stopped at Nottingham and Wetherby. Then did an unplanned one very close to Newcastle. Traffic was slow, I was tired and needed the toilet. Got back out again joined the traffic and where I wanted to be 30mins after that. With a longer drive, expect to be held up somewhere. I knew on my trip that I was going to hit rush hour somewhere on the route, and it was my decision to choose which one I wanted to hit.
  24. I've found that on the M25 many times. I will often only stay in lanes 1 and 2. I will be doing a similar speed to traffic in lane 3 (so I'm not undertaking) then you find that lane 3 really slows up for some reason. In stop start traffic I normally follow the HGVs around as they can see much further up. This again is normally lanes 1 and 2. M4/M5 managed motorway, a lot of people don't use the hard shoulder even if it's open.
  25. My boss was caught on the M5 near Bristol the other day. 80 in a 70. She will be doing a speed awareness course today. Fair play. The cameras are there, and people know about them anyway. However I see the gantries flash on the odd occasion. Granted these are not the 'stealth' cameras. These 'stealth' cameras are being placed on the Smart motorways, and they tend to have a different feel to the traffic flow in the area anyway. I haven't felt unsafe doing 70 on a motorway for being too slow. Coaches are generally quicker than HGVs, so I expect them to look for an overtake if there is a HGV in from of them. However I wouldn't normally expect to be overtaken by a coach at 70mph. I notice a difference in motorways. For example M4 in from Severn Bridge to Cardiff is generally lower speeds (Even on the non variable speed limit zones). 70mph and I will be in lane 3 overtaking most people. However if I do M4 Bristol towards Swindon then at 70mph I am overtaken most of the time.
