  1. Sorry don't worry. It was just my limited knowledge of the servicing plan. I did not fully look into it as when my local garage priced up the servicing the 'service plan' was about the same as paying for a minor-major-minor service individually. I am cashing my purchase so I would rather not pay another £500 upfront and just pay a smaller amount yearly for 3 years when the services crop up..
  2. You don't have to worry. Broadspeed, Carfile and Carwow (among others) are effectively just doing the haggling for you. You still purchase through a dealer. It just saves the face-to-face "what is the best price you can do" etc etc. The dealers contact you with their 'best price' and you just choose which one you want to buy from. Might be more difficult if you want a service plan included, if the best price given is not at your local dealer.
  3. From my recent research and subsequent order placement, the 'on the web' prices are different from the actual quote the Brokers give you. You need to do a full quote and get an actual price. Although Broadspeed emailed me and phoned, they never actually got back with a 'proper' price and I ordered via a different method. Also some of the cheaper Brokers supply preregistered vehicles. What with the government's new car tax scheme coming 2017 and the Skoda loyalty discount it seemed a now or never time to buy.
  4. Thanks for the info. I expect my wife's Mini with stop-start also needs this. I have an over 10 yr old Halfords charger so that probably is no good. Can we have a link to the one you bought please?
  5. Sounds like the VAG group might be doing quite a bit to increase whiplash claims. There has been a few reports of Front Assist doing its best to bury the car following behind into the boot! Not many people seem to remember the '2 sec rule & double if it is wet' when following, but if the car infront has Front Assist and they do not, things could get messy! 37
  6. You can always try here guys if you have a different stereo or MIB2: http://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/
  7. From my Pug 205 GTi days I know that the welding guys have problems repairing cast iron manifolds. 61
  8. I did this and asked a couple of local dealers to match. I am also using the 'Skoda Loyalty Discount' to get another £1k off. It sounds like SKODA UK not the dealer gives the £1k off so they should not worry. Without taking the Loyalty Discount into account it was around 12% with cash. 105
  9. That is good to hear as I will be going from Octy Mk1 vRS to a 1.4 TSi 150BHP Octy 3. Looking at the numbers it seems the 150BHP TSi produces more torque than the 180BHP 1.8T! 127
  10. Hello, Just wondering if someone could tell me which length of handbrake cable I should buy for a MK1 vRS please? My handbrake is cr*p and it does not help that one has stretched a lot. Euro Car Parts comes up with two lengths - 1698 & 1272mm! Also can someone comfirm that rear pads are the same between vented and solid discs. Looking at the Audi TT 3.2 which has the same calipers/discs it seems to show the same pads as Octavia non-vented rear disks. Thanks
  11. I bought a replacement for my Mk1 a few years back as the plastic started to degrade, the local VW dealer was quite surprised when I gave him the Part No. "A dipstick? I don't think we have ordered one of those in before!"
  12. The ABS sensor based system is ok. The system based on battery powered transducer in the tyre valves is a nightmare, well if you buy older cars instead of new with their 3-yr warranty. But chap at work, his son with (new) Hyundai i30 had them keep failing and dealership were trying to get him to pay. We all lose... Auto parking, oil level gauges, auto tyre pressure, adaptive cruise control... I keep thinking we will end up like the people in WALL*E!!!
  13. I got my copy on Friday, although only got around to play on Sat. I got this week off to put some GT6 time in, but I am also doing house and Xmas jobs. Think of GT6 like GT4 was to GT3. Not a massive improvement from GT5 but lots of tweeks to make it better and there are LOADS of tracks. Plus if this GPS course maker thing comes off, it is going to be great. Yes the sounds are poor, just like every other GT game. I also bought a X360 for Forza 4, and the sounds are great on Forza. There are some great little 'Coffee Breaks'. I had loads of fun seeing how far I could drive a GTR race car on 1 litre of fuel. When flooring it you can just see the fuel go! (I feel for you Boss Fox ) If they deliver on updates and track DLC like they promissed on GT5, I think GT6 will be around for quite a while. Now where is that moon buggy....
  14. As in it is a common fault that usually only appears in the winter. Do some more scrapping and it should sort it. Try a small wire brush if you have one.
  15. Here Here. I got 'done' by a case of mistaken identity. Some muppet wrote my plate down instead of the correct letters. N instead of M!!! It's cost me money through no fault of my own. The system is a joke. It would have been easier to have had the 'incident' than been nothing to do with it. Bowders - this is always a main worry of mine. There are people out there would not think twice to do it. What did they say in Pulp Fiction 'never touch another man's vehicle'.
  16. TPM worries me. Not the simple ABS based system but this stupid complicated sensors in tyre pressure valves. I read that all cars made after 2014 has to have it. But the document I read said that it has to be the pressure valves system. At the moment you are talking £60 for each sensor (unless they are standardised between manufactures I can't see prices plummeting). And well according to Hyundai they are wear and tear so even if you buy new they are only going to change them for free once before quoting the wear and tear act. The batteries in the valves are designed to last 5 years, so again affecting 2nd hand car buyers. I read you can't move tyres around as sensors will report issues and only garage can recode. Although I can't believe this and expect there must be a dash reset switch. The other thing I can see again for the 2nd hand owner. You get a tyre changed and then it is that whole dilemma of if you should get the pressure sensor replaced (either batteries will need replacing or sealing gaskets perishing). If you don't replace and it goes wrong it is back to tyre fitters for tyre to be removed and all extra cost. Morning rant over. :-)
  17. Only last a year! The Hungary made originals have lasted 8 years without blowing. I am expecting these OSRAMS to last a similar time. I suppose the saying 'the light that burns twice as bright burns for half as long' is true!
  18. Accident waiting to happen. "Sorry I didn't see you". Looks cool though :-)
  19. Hi, I have just changed both of my headlight bulbs in the matter of minutes. Soooooo easy. Thank you Skoda. I would even be able do it at the side of the road without any tools. Beat that modern cars! The bulbs I took out were the originals as they had 2005 date stamp on them. I read they loose their brightness over time, which makes sense. I bought some OSRAM Nightbreakers as they got a good review in Autoexpress's recent H4 bulb test. Will try them out on the drive back home tomorrow.
  20. I can't remember the exact number on my saddo spreadsheet, but my long term average is 36mpg. Although most of this is my 7mile drive to work. Can get 40mpg average on pump over a tank when driving on motorway. Pretty happy as people say for the performance and practicality. Shame the MK2 and 3 don't seem to hit better real world numbers. Maybe those 5 valves per cylinder was worth it after all...
  21. Hi. This is a common problem. Try using a tooth brush or one of those small wire brushes that are the size of a tooth brush, and gently brush up and down the two wire terminals inside the coolant bottle. I brushed mine and it has been fine for the last two winters.
