  1. Dude, seriously? Even my ancient 2.0 MPI Mark 1 Furby is ULEZ compliant, only smokey old diseasals are really affected.
  2. It's probably blown up already, those engines are constructed from very cheap materials, the conrods will be the weakest link.
  3. I can't tell you what code you'd need to write into the ECU but a search usually yields results and someone may have a copy of the official service manual where such information is usually concealed. Oooooooooookkkkkaaaaaaayyyyyyy?
  4. If £70 is too much then you're back to DIY which can be messy with exhausts due to lack of access and no hot spanner available.
  5. It's obviously a coding error, the ECU is looking for ACC but can't find it because it's not fitted. Coding errors usually happen when battery voltage is briefly interrupted during ECU initialisation, for example when trying to start the car with a flat battery on a cold morning.
  6. When it happens just take a picture or short video with your phone so you can show it to dealer.
  7. You need to reset the linkage, there is a guide on here if you search for it.
  8. I didn't know because he didn't say, I misremembered him as a VRS owner, I would have thought that much was bleedin' obvious from my reply. Fascist!
  9. You HAVE to replace the bolts, it's not optional, best to buy PD150 bolts too, they're stronger.
  10. Come on, you're over reacting dramatically, he wasn't rude to you at all.
  11. Your wheels can possibly be trued if they're not too bad.
  12. I recommend you get a quote from an independent VW specialist, it's a VW engine, they're VW trained technicians.
  13. Your engine is clearly post-VIN split due to the date of manufacture. The garage has therefore made an error and assumed yours is an earlier engine with a non-serviceable crank sprocket. You must insist that the crank sprocket included in the kit is fitted, make sure the parts list is amended to reflect this. The crank sprocket wears the worst due to being half the diameter of the cam sprockets, a new chain will not sit properly on an old, worn sprocket.
  14. Valve stem seals, it's age related not mileage, the seals go crispy and you get slight oil fouling of the spark plug, again nothing really to worry about.
  15. It isn't just Skoda that have problems with camchains as they age, this is an age old problem going right back to the 70's when motorcycle engines started using chain driven overhead cams. The tensioner mechanisms always give problems. The layman's perception that chains are better than belts simply isn't true, belts are easy to keep in tension and quiet but they suffer frictional losses and need changing. Give me belts every time.
  16. The tappets aren't faulty, it's the design that's flawed, as these engines age they develop lifter tick and there appears to be no cure, it maybe due to reduction in oil pressure caused by gradual flow restriction in the cylinder head casting or a localised drop in oil pressure from wearing cam bearings. As I very clearly stated right at the top, it doesn't affect reliability or performance so there's really no need to worry about it.
  17. Nope, you need 205/40/17, 18's are pretty much a no go as they're all too wide and foul the arch.
  18. Not if you use the correct tyres, it's the tyre size that affect the speedo, not the wheels.
  19. Clicking is caused by a relay or the solenoid cycling, it's usually caused by battery issues.
  20. It doesn't mean anything, they're analogue sensors which only flag an error if they stop working or go outside a wide range if values.
  21. The ignition lock is getting stuck, read the post, if his key is very worn then a new one may fix it, in an ideal world he'd replace the lock barrel but it's a tricky DIY fix and expensive too.
  22. Not everyone has the budget to go out and spunk £100 on stands and a trolley jack just to accomplish a simple DIY fix. Axle stands are the minimum safe requirement for getting under a car to fix something, how you get it onto those stands is far less important. All this BS about the standard jack is crazy, the standard jack does NOT move the car because the foot rolls as it goes up, a trolley jack DOES move the car because the wheels often get stuck and don't roll freely on asphalt.
  23. Oh my god, did somebody call the safety police because they are here in force!
  24. Since operating temperature is about 90 degrees then, as I suspected the ECT sensor is duff.
