Another theory is it is a warning that the battery in the remote is getting low......

If the car is not turned on and you have opened the door and have the indicator stalk is either left or right it will bong as it has activated the park lights on either the left or right hand side of the car.....

Followed a girl driving a white Fiat 500 tonight and it had a sticker on the back saying..."My other toy has a Willy"

I didn't mean to have a 'told you so attitude' it's just that you can insist that your repair is done by the Main Dealers although you will not get a courtesy car without paying and the insurers won't make it easy for you. VAG also told me that your paint warranty may be invalidated. How true that is I don't know. Anyway I hope you get it sorted and keep us posted as it is a very interesting subject that can affect us all.....
