  1. Well, the Fab has a full tank of Shell derv in it, so I'll see how that goes. I'm still a bit 'eh' with my mpg. I was expecting more, but perhaps it is my driving style, perhaps not. The Fab is only ~2100 miles old, so I'm still holding out till it's got a few more miles under it's belt, but yeah. Hmm. Also, would my mpg be better on a cold, early morning, rather than coming home from work when it's generally a bit warmer. I can get 45mpg going to work at 7am, but coming back sometimes struggle to get 41/42. Same driving style.
  2. Okay. I'll use Shell for the next month or so and report back in this thread on performance, and mpg.
  3. Seriously? I've been thinking about my mpg now that my car has hit 1800miles. I'm averaging 45mpg, but I was expecting a bit higher. I've been using Tescos diesel from day one. Might change for a month [about 4 tanks] and see if there's a difference in mpg.
  4. Y'know...amongst all this talk of speed, I managed 47.8mpg on the way home today. Was quietly impressed. Standard black 55. Nice, aren't they?
  5. Explain? As long as my booty is happy, why does it matter?
  6. Alas, a jolly down to Brighton for the day on Saturday saw the 1000 mile come up [currently @ 1250 ish] and I thought I'd write a little something about my thoughts and findings up for my first K with the vRS. The day I went to pick it up, I was a little underwhelmed. It didn't look as cool as I remembered. I was sure it was sitting a little higher. Anyway, it was mine. The drive home was delicate. Careful throttle application, braking, and cornering led to a dull ride home. 1000 miles later and I've fallen for the thing in a big way. Sure, it sounds like a very loud tractor, there's some form of lag ~1,800rpm, the steering wheel vibrates on idle, the headlights are weak, the seats get dirty quicker than I can waft down a pint of Guinness, the steering is heavy on initial turn and I've yet to hear an exhaust note...but...it's real world performance. The motor is a peach. It just pulls and pulls without complaint, quietly, and swifty, effortlessly. The gearbox is nicely ratio'd, providing good accleration at most speeds, and fantastic motorway cruising rpms. The brakes are good, despite lacking feel when the pedal is pressed further. The chassis handles; sticking to the road well, composed when in fast corners, eliminating enough body roll without taking out your fillings when going over sharp bumps. Seats are fab, car looks great, with a nice finish and feel. The car is in need of a slight lowering. If a set of more interesting, complimentary wheels are found I could be tempted, but other than a slight upgrade to the stereo and other interior bits [it's VERY VAG isn't it!], and some better headlights I wouldn't want to change the characteristics of the engine in terms of it's effortless, smoothness when tuning [which I wouldn't until out of warrenty anyway!], but I've had it sitting at what I consider silly speeds happyily getting 45-48mpg whilst doing so, so I couldn't ask for anymore. Obviously, once you get used to something, you'll always want quicker, but I wouldn't want to lose any of the engines endearing characteristics atm - swift, effortless, subtlety. For what you pay, I think you get good value for money with the vRS. It's got the nod from all my mates so far, most owning far more exotic and powerful cars. I'm not regreting the decision of picking it over the others cars I looked at one bit. Here's to many more happy miles.
  7. Much as I like that, I'd be more inclined, for the money spent, to get two after market seats for the front and get them done in similar colours as the vRS interior. Sod the back seats. They're not used much!
  8. I thought it was just 505.01.
  9. Fluff - You the same FM on Visordown? I'm MildMatt. Bothered you lots earlier on in the year about Z750s, to which I ended up getting one, which I've since sold, and got a 55plate vRS. Small world.
  10. My vRS is 220 miles ish old. I've been checking the oil daily [this won't carry on forever, I can assure you. I'm jsut being overly cautious whilst running in!] and it's not moving, so calms my nerves about noting being able to find any 505 01 oil. I've not been to a dealer yet, as I'd rather try getting some from the smaller one-off shops, but to not avail. Anyway, I had a butchers at sticky list - some are fully synth, and some are semi. In my book, Skoda recomend the Shell Helix one which is semi. Is one type better than another? What is in my engine? Can you mix semi/fully synth oils? Yours, somewhat puzzled, not knowing the indepth world of engine oil, Matt.
  11. Picked it up on the weekend. I'm quietly impressed thus far. Really holds the road well, seats are fab, and low rev crusing at high speeds is a blessing.
  12. Nice! I'll make sure I've got some of that for a day 1 application.
  13. Um. The guy said it'd be middle of September. I think he said they had a few coming to them at that time. I've not got any extras so assume it'd be a quick build.
  14. Not one of those red ones. And yes. Speeding up time! All that torque will do me for now, ta.
  15. Delivery date around the middle of next month. Awesome. Anyone got any 'time-speeding-up' pills?
  16. Cheers Stu. I'm in Hertfordshire, and that weekend is my birthday weekend, so I may well be a prebooked, but I'll look forward to the reports. Seems this diesel tuning can reap many benefits for a 'simple' remap. Just found out from a guy at my fathers workplace that his local dealer are doing cost price Skodas this weekend only. Going to ring tomorrow to see if it's a existing customers only deal, or if anyone can buy. Heh. I was happy paying 12k for the vRS! Thanks for the welcomes.
  17. Hello. After testing a Fiesta ST, a Tigra 1.4 [i wish this came with the 1.9TDi engine..], Mini Cooper and Fabia vRS, I fear, pending a final motorway storming test-drive, that the ickle vRS is for me. Never driven a TD engine'd car before, and that kick at 1,500rpm is going to become addictive. Looking forward to a few show meets, etc.
