1. Fitted a set of mud flaps to the VRS yesterday, so had to remove the rear wheels to get good access. As such i decided to give them a clean (they are the white alloy's) and noticed what looks to be specs of rust on the inside of the rim. Shall be a trip back to the dealer to have a word. btw only took delivery last Wednesday.
2. first bit of weight saving i did on my VRS was to remove the dealers sticker still on the number plates though
3. Deep down i know your right but it is worth a punt, especially as mine worked out to be about 25% under list so i have a little wiggle room. Probably just phone around one or two just to see how the land lies but i expect to be waved off very quickly.
4. Tis being very greedy, but i may just ry and see what would happen, just for the hell of it. As some of the other posts have said though, it probably would not extend to the 2012 MY though. Quite liked the idea of a black grill.
5. Yes, gathered that would be the case with the white, but it does look good (well i think it does). Interestingly the range has already gone up (now 330) even though i have driven about 80 miles today. I guess that is just down to the computer working out the expected range based on the averaged fuel consumption. those dockers must have been really booting the cars around when they were offloaded On the down side though, joining the motorway this morning, litterally five minutes from home, stone hit the windscreen and now i have a nice chip that hopefully can be repaired.
6. It sounds like the job hasn't been done but i can't say for certain. I would have expected the oil to be relatively clean after a service especially if you had an engine flush as well, but without actually being able to touch and sniff the oil it is a difficult call to make (yes i can tell such things and also by doing some analysis, i used to be a lab manager analysing new and used lubricants). Can you see the filter relatively easily? if so, have a check and see if it looks new or has just been wiped over or is still coveed in muck from the road? if it doesn't look new then i guess they haven't done what they said they have. As a tip for the future, if it is relatively easy to get at the oil filter, can i suggest that you mark it. Gaffer/electrical insulating tape works quite well, as when a new one is fitted you should be able to check immediately that it has been changed. Not much help in reality, but if your not happy, i would go back and at least ask the question. Jerry
7. When i picked my VRS up yesterday i was offerred a similar package, just shy of £ 400 up front or £23 deposit and then £ 11 something a month for 35 months. Servicing will be 10000 miles or annual so two type A's and one type B required. these services are supposed to cost £150 and £ 250 respectively plus VAT, so on paper this looks like good value. Have already seen someone say their first service cost £ 188 incl VAT on here a few days ago. So, if you are on fixed servicing, it seems like a steal, or is really just a reflection of the true value of the service?
8. Then, it is you whom i owe thanks. Good spot, look really good in the car.
9. This one is on autotrader, 10 plate with 3500 miles, £ 14470 and the ad says the stickers can be removed. I certainly would not pay £ 17500 for it http://www.carmony.co.uk/en/used-car/skoda-fabia-hatchback_1074269
10. whens week 22? I have been feeling greedy and despite having only just got my VRS, wondered what i could get for trade-in in 3 or 4 months time if i were to order another VRS on the VAT free deal now? could i essentially get 3 or 4 months of motoring by the trade-in value being similar to the value of a VAT free VRS or do people think that will be taken into account? The only reason i thought about this was because i looked on autotrader for a used VRS and could not believe the price dealers wanted for them.
11. Thanks to whoever recommended Ambassador Car Mats, and advised on quoting the discount code of easteroffer gaining a reduction of 15%. Ordered Monday, arrived today to coincide with picking up the new VRS. Again, many thanks, just sorry i can not recall who it was. Jerry
12. :smirk:Sorry re the links, thats probably my fault, not very good at this yet but going to try again Hopefully these will work (please). Post post note, yes they do Just been out and filled her up, 40 litres of V-Power, concerned that when i got back in the car the range only said 280 miles , but hopefully that will even itself out once it cans some miles on it. Nice and quick though
13. Yep, by 20% or rather 3.79 litres compared to an imperial gallon of 4.54 litres and i took that into consideration when i made my post with regard to the cost of fuel. I must admit i did have a Jeep commander with a 3.6 litre V6 (probably the only time i will drive such a car, i certainly would never buy one) and covered about 600 miles in 12 days. Spent almost as much on fuel as i would have done in my Vectra that did 38 mpg covering the same distance. As i knew fuel would be cheap (in comparrison to the UK) i took the opportunity to hire such a vehicle. a bit stupid really as i normally refer to them as planet killers but that is a completely different topic  .
14. If i've got it correct, the multi finction sterring wheel fitted to the VRS will control the Bluetooth kit. Check here first Fabia Handbook but also with your dealer (if they know what they are doing).
15. My first ever Skoda! Picked it up today, couple of quick pics before it got dark so will do some more at the weekend when i have time. Literally only had time to drive home from the garage so far, but off to fuel up shortly. My link My link
16. Actually, diesel is a heavier fraction than gasoline so comes of later in the fractionation process. However, the fraction taken for diesel is very similar to that of heating oils and Jet fuel and thus compete with each other for that part of the barrel. However, i believe the price differential, especially in the UK, is due to higher levels of taxationon diesel. Cost of fuel in the US has obviously risen quite steeply, i was only paying $ 2.50 for a US gallon (equivalent to 66p/l) back in August when i was in Florida.
17. I was actually looking at the VRS specific brochure last night (found it on the web, never seen one in the flesh so to speak) and noticed (that when printed) it was possible to have either DRL or front fogs. On this basis, if front fogs were fitted, then you would need to have sidelights as well which are in the main headlamp unit, thus three bulbs. As i am fairly certain they will not make a different headlamp unit just for the VRS with DRL's it is the same fitting and consequently why there appears to be a redundant bulb. Anyway, just a thought.
18.
Skoda's are cracking value for money when bought on the VAT free deal, really alot of metal for the money but otherwise I think they are starting to get on the pricey side. An Octy vRS CR DSG is now about 23K which is still alot of money in my eyes. And as well bolted together as they are, the quality of the materials used (certainly in the interior) is not up to the grade of the MK6 Golf, nowhere near. Unfortunately, if you look around, the prices of all new cars has increased dramatically over the last three years. This has struck me as rather strange as i have noticed these increases ever since we entered the recession when new car sales were hit very hard. It probably means that to gain our business previously cars were underpriced/heavily discounted or just over produced and unfortunately it is the sign of the times that new car prices are now what they are. I suspect parity will never be achieved between the different VAG brands (and hopefully not) but imho i believe VW's are overpriced for what they are, Audi is just trying to compete on the upmarket BMW market share and Skoda's offer great value for money, especially when VAT free, but that would be the same for the other marks as well (VAT free that is). It has always struck me as daft that people will pay a lot of money for a badge, but then i have never had the money to do this, my car having to be practical and offering the best value for money at time of purchase. I have deliberately omitted Seat as i do not really know where they sit as i always thought they were a little over priced. Skoda is definately the way to go.
19. How do you double the value of a Skoda? Fill it with fuel. Which, if we are not careful will soon be true.
20. Definate , nice colour VRS as well
21. Can't say specifically, but at a guess it will be the 5W/40. i know it has been pretty cold recently but the 0W would be a pure arctic grade product. In reality there is not much between them apart ftom their low temperature viscometric properties, and provided you use the same brand, the additive package is more thaan likely going to be the same, the viscometrics being derived from the use of different base stocks. Ask your dealer (probably the service department) they may know what the factory fill is.
22. Probably because the light unit is standard across the range and it is just wired differently dependent on the model to save costs. My Vectra has two rear fog lights but only one works (offside) as required by law but the bulb is fitted and not blown on the near side. Complete pain in a**e when the car is telling you that a bulb is out somewhere on the car and your trying to find it.
23. That price is outrageous (as are the ones being advertised on Autotrader but i guess they were pre 'No VAT' deal) inmo 'if' you can wait for a factory order. Pick mine up on wednesday, for £13400 otr, with met paint, white roof and white alloys. Admittedly, no other toys apart from those included as standard as it is the car on display in the showroom (locked up since i agreed to purchase it) .
