Scanner help wanted
mikefelicia replied to mikefelicia's topic in Skoda Favorit, Skoda Felicia, Skoda Fun and Skoda FormanI do not know for sure the garages i took it too said confliting things my guess it was the head gasket but there was a lot of noise, so I wanted to keep my Felly and I look at purchasing a replacment engine and found one on Ebay being sold by SYNETIQ the engine was year 2000 and had 018,057 miles, so it was purchased. I have it installed now and wow it is so quiet and go's very well no problems except on tick over the engine revs rise and fall a little. I am 99.99% happy and can only say SYNETIQ were very good with the price and delivery of the engine I would recommend them I understand they have the rest of the car still for sale it was a silver 2000 Felicia 1.3 for me it was a case of being at the right place at the right time were can one get a Felly engine with18,000 miles and I can tell you it looks very clean. find picture attached. Heres to the nexted 25 years I hope that will make me 93.

Scanner help wanted
I have a 1998 Skoda Felicia 1.3 MPI with a 2000 engine (just fitted) I am thinking of purchasing a scanner and having a go myself I have zero experience with one so can any one give me a link say to one on EBAY UK. to purchase. Like I say I have NO experience using one, can I mess up my car by using one ? and I am only just testing the water to see if it is feasible to use one, after all one of the reasons for owning a Felly is to do most of the servicing myself even if I am in my late 70s. I have the service workshop manual on the Mono -Motronic fuel injection and it states use tester VAG 1551 WITH CABLE 1551/3. Any info if you have used one on a Felicia 1.3 MPI Thanks.

Had to call AA out.
mikefelicia replied to mikefelicia's topic in Skoda Favorit, Skoda Felicia, Skoda Fun and Skoda FormanThank you RicardoM for your reply, at the moment the car is in the garage waiting for repair. I do not find it easy to disscribe but I will try, the engine has been making a ticking sound for a long time it seemed to come from the top end I checked the tappets and all was ok over time the engine has got more noisy performance was ok and starting. Then on Monday 18th the car would not start I called the AA home start out he found the temp sensor was faulty I had a new complete one in my shed as stand by but I think it was a chinese copy any way he fitted it and car stated ok, the next day the car was relutant to start going on 2 then 4 cylinders I took it to the garage and the guy came out and the car was in nuetral and the engine just reved up and down on its own then stopped and would not start so I left it there at the garage. Sorry I cant be more help a lot has happened in my family at the moment. One last thing the garage offered me £250 pounds for the car as it was saying there may be problems with the engine and would cost a lot I do not wish to get rid of her but it my come to it I told the garage I had a budget of £1,500 ponds he said he will get back to me I will let you know how I go on. Thanks Mike.

Had to call AA out.
mikefelicia replied to mikefelicia's topic in Skoda Favorit, Skoda Felicia, Skoda Fun and Skoda FormanWell it was short lived the AA repair, the car struggled to start on 4 cylinders I took it to the garage and it was running very rough the engine in neutral was reving up and down on its own in the end there was a lot of noise and engine stopped and would not start. So now it is in the garage for a strip down looks like something is very much wrong with the engine and going to cost me a lot by the looks of things. Ho well it is too good to scrap at the moment and another car is out of the question cost wise, 2022 so far has been a very bad year for my family one way and another thing can not get any worse and I don't mean the car.

Had to call AA out.
My 1998 Felicia 1.3 MPI would not start today so I called the AA out and after he checked for a spark and all was OK, and I had fuel going into the engine. After more investigating he found the the coolant temp sensor on the top the thermostat one with the yellow band on it was faulty I had a new one in my shed after it fitted all was well, he said it was wetting the plugs sending the wrong message to the ECU. Any one had this happen and I thought the the temp sensor had nothing to do with starting. Car has now covered 100203 miles and the sensor about15000 miles car has a lot of noise from the engine (and I mean a lot of noise) beside the fact I have had the car from new and it has had a lot of TLC all its life. Your thoughts on the sensor.

Just the thoughts of a OLD man that has seen the good times.

Thinking of purchasing a Fabia
I have a 1998 Skoda felicia 1.3 MPI from new and still runs very well with nearly 1,000 miles on clock. If I should wish to buy a Fabia second hand (I am 77) so I am on a very limited budget not looking for speed just easy to service and cheap to run. I only do some 3,000 miles a year. I have listed my requirements 1 Petrol engine must run on E10 2 Maybe power steering 3 sun roof if poss 4 colour red or dark red 5 windup windows. If poss. What year and what model your thoughts Thanks.

Rear window heater
mikefelicia replied to mikefelicia's topic in Skoda Favorit, Skoda Felicia, Skoda Fun and Skoda FormanThanks again guys for the help, had a look today and found that the wire was broken to the hatch not the first time I have had problems there as I am not the best at soldering I had a go and put a new bit of wire in not the best of repairs but looks like all is working on the rear now. That part of the car wiring is not good were it comes out of the body into the hatch the rubber boot has gone and I put shrink tube around the wire and taped them all together, I noticed that the wires seen hard not flexible it actually needs all rewiring.

Rear window heater
My 1998 Skoda Felicia 1.3 mpi has some 99,200 Miles on the clock and has just past the MOT (UK) . For some time both the Electric heated wing mirrors have not worked now they move it is just the heater not working, I noticed the rear window heater is not working now , I checked the fuse number 13 a 30amp fuse and all is ok not blown the rear heater light indicator comes on on the dash but no rear window heater. Any ideas any one as to were to look I can live without the wing mirror heaters not working but would like the rear window to work.

Oil pressure light
mikefelicia replied to mikefelicia's topic in Skoda Favorit, Skoda Felicia, Skoda Fun and Skoda FormanHi RicardoM 1 NO I used Shell Helix HX5 15/40 2 VW genuine part no 047 115 561f (purchased 4 off Ebay) 3 No 4 No The light has not come on again it may have been a dirty connecter after all it has not been touched in 23 years if it comes on again then I will ask my mechanic to test the pressure with a manometer, the hose I took off I suspect was not a genuine one it was softened, the garage changed it I have now put a genuine one on now and will keep an eye on it the oil on the hose may be from changing the oil filters over time and some miner leaks from joints like I say 23 years for a all alloy engine heating up and cooling down and lets face it these engines are not exactly high tec they were never intended to last this long even with the best care that's why there are so few left on the road here in the UK any way. As always thanks for your help.

Felicia 1.3i lower hose
mikefelicia replied to moogmaniac's topic in Skoda Favorit, Skoda Felicia, Skoda Fun and Skoda FormanI do not think I can take a picture of the push rod cover with out taking the radiator off what I intend to do is replace the lower hose I have cleaned the area as best I can and then I will monitor the area over the hose in the future the hose I am replacing is not in a critical state but me being what I am if I know something is not right then it has to be put right. Looking back at my records on the car I see in Nov 2014 the garage replaced the tappet cover gasket and seals also the lower rad hose mileage then was 74,097 so the car has done 24,759 miles since then.

Oil pressure light
mikefelicia replied to mikefelicia's topic in Skoda Favorit, Skoda Felicia, Skoda Fun and Skoda FormanWell after the cleaning of the area and switch and the connecter I have driven a few miles and NO light come on will continue to use and see how it go's weather to install the new one when it arrives, in the mean time the new lower hose has arrived a genuine in its original packaging. With regarding the pinking noise I will just carry on using the car as I have no idea and my mechanic what it is sometimes it is louder than other times, ho well I am deaf in one ear and not good in the other (3 operations) being deaf do's have its advatages like not hearing the wife. Once again it is nice that you guys take the time to listen to me and help I thank you so much. So onward.
