My felly is DONE FOR

Featured Replies

It overheated badly, and twice, it has no control of coolant temp at idle it will reach 100c before the fan kicks in (with 85c switch), coolant cap is hissing, slight mayo under the oil cap, engine running roughly and everything smelling of unburnt gas (exhaust and oil).

I am deeply saddened by that, that may very well be the end of the car. My father doesnt belive me but I know this car to damn well, whats happening now is not good.

Will keep you updated.

That sounds like HG failure or cracked head - that might still be repairable. I think this is not the end, Your Felly will be good again.

Similar thoughts about HGF (or if you're very lucky you just need a new pressure cap).

I hope so dear friend I was thinking head gasket, will get an endoscope tomorrow, look in the cylinders and do a burn test of oil

nah its 1year old it was always leaking a bit but today, oh today

And guys sorry for being emotional, it's just that I like this car very much, I think it's not something I could ever replace, this and my Brera, all other cars are replacable but an ALL ORIGINAL sport line, is really not replacable.

I can understand your feeling for the Felicia, I have a 1998 1.3 Felly from new and I too would miss it if it went, stick with it you will regret letting it go.

I will not let it go.

Opened the cap today stated it up was bubbling like crazy, revved it and some big bubbles came out the the fan started working properly.

It surely is head gasket, but still no water in oil.

I think I'm gonna roll as is till it breaks 😭😭

If you're going to run it til it dies, throw some "Steel Seal" in. It's expensive, but it works well. We've had some in one of the vans for months.

That's normal on these engines - HG blows around cylinder liner first (sometimes because the liner sinks into the block), oil passages stay tight for some time. But I wouldn't drive it like that for long. You're risking overheating and further deformation of the block.

Don't. You'll end up with a bigger mess.

so I will have to replace the liner gasket as well...

I'd try to avoid having to do a significant repair on an aluminium engine, it just doesn't normally go well, especially if they've been overheated. I'd spend the time finding a second hand engine and getting it ready to fit in time for when the inevitable happens.

Honestly the best way about it IMO. Would be better for your Felicia if you wish to keep it around rather than making things worse.

Guys I'm gonna make a video so you can see this afternoon.

Also going to put a 80-85c switch.

Let's pray that will keep it under control somewhat.

That depends. The liner height has to be measured, it might end up being fine.

The switch probably didn't work because of air bubble trapped in the radiator (it happened to me, too) - in that case, lower threshold won't help.

The vid

Please watch near the end if you want to see the big boom.

Please advise me of the head warpage tolerances, for liners i found 0.07-0.12mm with no more than 0.04mm diviation.

Yep, I don't imagine it would be that much in parts and labour for a garage to undertake the work too. :)

Correcting idiocy.

What's your opinion on the vid

I watched the end, you know some good expressions in English!!! (F.M.S.!)

It certainly looks like head gasket but the cooling system will not behave properly if there is some air remaining unbled from the system and with the pressure cap removed, once it reaches operating temperature it is going to vent unless the cap is screwed home.

I would refill, run with cap off to bleed, top up then fit the pressure cap and watch the temperature guage and overflow from the expansion vessel, do not remove the cap to check the level till the next day when everything has cooled.

You could use a sniffer test kit but your nose is already telling you there are combustion gases, an alloy block & head that has overheated badly twice is likely to have done for the head gasket and/or liner seals but dont condemn it until you are sure.

Does F.M.S. translate at all well into Greek?

None of them seem to in French with the exception of something that can be easily visualised, I use Judge Judy's "Don't pi55 on my leg and tell me it's raining!" and the intention and humour are understood.

I use that one as well, JR. :D
