  1. those of you that read my rantings usually in capitols, and on skoda superb, (until i was told it was shouting) will know i pimped the interior of my 05 elegance with nice results, (see pictures in that topic) but this may work for other skoda models so you may know that i moaned about the rear lights or rather the lack of illumination on side lights...and asked the question are the face lifted lights any different or top and bottom double filaments..... well they aint ! so the pimping continues i purchased two new bulb holders, double pins and opposite pin bayonet fitting. i know the superb uses double offset and staggered pins but i will get to that latter. the new bulb holders are approx 20 mm in length with wires already attached and slightly wider than the bulb base i removed the rear lamps off of the car i removed the top bulb 12volt 21 watt i removed the bottom bulb 12volt 21w/4w and put them in the spares box, neither to be re used i then used a snap on rotary bur fitted in a high speed drill to grind out the top bulb holder fittings on the pcb to take the new holders i drilled two 3mm holes into the lamp holder hole on the pcb to take the two wires on the bulb holders i inserted the new holders, pushed in so the base is flush fitting and wires poking through the drilled holes i then soldered both sides of the new bulb holder to the pcb the wires were then routed behind the pcb and soldered to metal feeds for the side light and the brake light now the bulbs, they shouldnt fit , :wonder: i purchased four 12volt 21w/5w bulbs ,(brighter) opposite pins and staggered , NOT offset and staggered factory fit 12v 21w/4w i couldnt find the exact fit in higher wattage so the new ones were the only option i had to file off one of the bayonet pins on each bulb( the top one closest to the glass) the bulb holder was crimped slightly so the one pinned bulb didnt loose contact :| i marked the pcb and the bulbs with a paint pen marker so fitting could not be 180 degrees out (otherwise if you are ham fisted enough you could have 21w side lights !!) i refitted the lamps to the car a tried out.. they look good they are very neat they dont affect any other lights they are legal and have been checked by the vehicle inspectorate and give a much bigger side light area top and bottom,so safer. here are the pictures although they may not be in perfect order as you can see from the pics, its a neat and easy job, the top double filament bulb protrudes a little bit more but not enough to cause any issues at all and the best bit... it took a couple of hours and a few quid, BARGAIN !! the pics of the lights on are just the side lights, the camera has a very powerful flash that has distorted the image a bit, the brake and fog lights work exactly as before, no bulb failure warnings either. what do you think? 2. hi there i agree, it looks the biz, liking it more and more i havent encountered any faults/issues with bulb failure system, the only time it came on was when i disconnected the connector with the car running. i have a possible customer in ireland who wants me to convert his holder/pcb also, early days at the mo though. i dont mind taking on a few modifications i might be starting a something of a skoda illumination movement ! lol
  3. my word ! thats going for it ! but you still only have the lower side lights compared to my mod, it looks pricey did it cost more than 8 quid?? because thats all i wanted to lavish on mine lol (old saying, skoda drivers are too tight to.....) i too wanted to use the leds but i asked a question on here about a month back and one of the regulars advised against using them, and said it could have invalidated insurance ? so i got a bit concerned and wimped out !! have you got any other mods to look at? are there dlr lights that can be fitted into the bumper lower grills? if i fitted leds to the front sides would i need to do the same sort of things that you did?,would 2x front leds sides bring on bulb warning? i know the standard sides look yellow compared next to the f/f zenons headlamps i need to modify something.... but what!

  5. hi there im new to the superb , but well experienced . i would nt touch the 2.5 because road tax is higher, (and higher still for autos i believe) and fuel economy is lower , no matter how careful the driving :'( also the 2.5 has its own engine gremlins get a well sorted 1.9 tdi , go for 130tdi, and if its not powerful enough then there's always re maps and chips they are the business i as many others, have been won over
  6. we are agreed then ! im going to look into this and keep all posted
  7. hi all are the mk1 rear lights any different from the mk1 face lift model? what i really want to know is .. does it use a double filament bulb at the top as well as the bottom?, so you would have top and bottom side lights, might sound an odd sort of question but i feel it needs a larger area of side light at the rear. newer cars use a larger area/style of side light, and my old passat!.
  8. nice , very subtle, very slim line ,seems like the audi a4 one, wouldnt take much paint !
  9. no wories, i bid the first one i saw,and wouldnt you know it some bid against me and out bid me ! so a week later i bid again putting in the first high bid (£55) and won it at the opening price ! i used the glue from the bay also, heres the link http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220615736819&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT it is very good stuff easy to use and clean and sets within 30 mins cheaper than any other body shop glue ive ever seen good luck
  10. hi there there are lip type boot spoilers out there, flea bay again..i ve seen some originating in Thailand i think, and they are painted , but may incur import taxes, so i went for the uk one from parts depot. from germany http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SKODA-SUPERB-TRUNK-LIP-sportive-SPOILER-unpainted-/130394589644?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1e5c1f89cc from uk http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-GENUINE-SKODA-SUPERB-3U-BOOT-LID-REAR-SPOILER-/190539869113?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2c5d0fabb9
  11. hi there im new to the superb but im very familiar with the dmf, spend time and check everything out thoroughly. as an ex mercedes tech i have fitted numerous units to car and lgv alike, they will cause horrible noises and vibrations at idle and can almost disappear as its reved up, long and short of it is the radial springs either break or suffer through overheating/riding the clutch, and the special grease that is packed between the springs either side of both halves of the dmf leaches out, play , noise, then the symptoms begin. i have known people to condemn an engine for this ! useless piece of info, long standing volvo customers left in there droves when the 850's came out due to early catastrophic failures , and we had to retro fit the conventional three piece clutch and flywheel.
  12. hi there friend,

would you know of anywhere i can get a lower chrome grill for the superb 05 (fits in the bottom of the bumper and matches the radiater grill)

  13. hi there

im not sure if any side skirts are available, but milotec may be able to help or some of the european sites, that stylize cars, i'm wanting to find a chrome lower grill, and im trying to convert the brake lights to stop and tail lights(double filament bulbs) so there would upper and lower side lights, like the b5.5 passat.

i'll post the results if im successful !

  14. hi there

here is the link to the chrome edging, you will need two packs, (approx 5 meters)

clean the panel gap, YOU WILL need to use super glue and spray activator to make these stick, i tried without the glue and it stayed on for an hour then fell off !

hope you like the result, i think its coool

    hope this helps you out,

  16. thanks , i checked these items on your advise, nothing unusual though so i removed the starter motor and sripped it down as far as possible.. a bit gummed up , and an the solenoid wasnt free, more of an interference fit ! thus not engaging, or moving back and forth, if i had to some up it seemed as if the 'mass/weight inside the solenoid had swelled and could no longer move, even when this was cleaned up so i turned a few thou off of it and copper greased the correct moving parts and re assembled, guess what, i now works fine.
  17. maybe skoda superbs arent bad after all? LOL i have had the usual issues with the superb and done them all, then sold a perfect passat so i could drive this car, taxed it today and insured it today, then had the pleasure of 3.1 miles of driving before it broke down i stopped and switched it off as norm , went shopping and tried to start it, no crank at all, battery new and fine,no warnings up,just wouldnt start rocked it in gear , no different then approx 30mins latter it started as if there was never an issue, before i start ripping it to bits and more than likely causing another issue, is there a starter motor relay? do they suffer solenoid issues? is there an issue with the ignition switch? any help would be great, if there are relays what nos, and where are they?? missing the passat.
  18. i said dont laugh.. now with photos and these guys here's the thing , i bought the rear boot lid spoiler and was very impressed, looks the part and tastefully finishes the car off. well it didn't stop there.....i used to work for m.b (Mercedes Benz) and always liked the chrome accents in their cars, especially interiors so looking at a superb elegance interior and door cards i couldn't stop thinking about what it would look like if bean counters at skoda had put these little touches in here also, although elegance trim is nice it does in my opinion need something around the center of the dash and door cards to fill in the channel/gap ....so i bought 5 meters x 3.5mm of chrome moulding with self adhesive backed tape.... stop, i can hear the laughing already!! let me finish,i cut all to size and fitted, door cards and all around the dash and steering wheel gaps.. NOW whos laughing!! it looks the biz, a tasteful improvement and looks like it should have been there from factory and all for £6.99 including p and p on flea bay, came from europe. now if you want to do this and i cant see why not!! it will need more help in sticking and staying on the item your trying to stick it to even with cleaning the grease from the channel it still fell off ! actually after fitting them i returned to the car an hour latter to find all the bits on the floor LOL :( so i used super glue and activator, now they are going no where!! looks nice ! i'd put on the photos but dont now how.... er wait a bit... thanks to gizmo for getting me through the traumatic uploading to photo bucket, it says something about my computer skills when my teenage daughter helped me !! the spoiler is just resting on the boot at the mo , this is attempt no 10 at down loading, is there an easier way? HOPE YOU LIKE IT GIZMO
  19. hi there fella in n ireland normally i would nt have pimped any car with a spoiler, but there was one on flea bay , just type in skoda superb rear spoiler, then pick the one that suits you, there are some interesting ones from taywon, or outer mongoalia that are painted, BUT, its a long way to send back if it turns up wrong and there could be import taxes, so i went for the one that 'says genuine skoda......' it starts at £34.99 plus 7.50 p and p. i was lucky and got it at that price, the most i saw one go, went up to was £51.00 and considering these are well over £200 its still a bargain. its from parts depot, who advertise loads of bits, got a great boot cargo net for a tenna also, as for the spoiler its well packaged turns up in three days and looks the biz, recommend highly, doesnt come with the cement but i got that on flea bay also, (body shop mastic for fitting panels trim spoilers ect) even the paint was from the bay , perfect match, sahara beige 9201. go on, you know it makes sense !
  20. i will be using the superb for the first time since i bought it in early feb !! since then i have done the plenum chamber unblocked all the bungs and repaired all the green wiring under the underlay and erased all the fault codes dried out all the carpets water still getting in !!!! removed all the door cards and resealed all the boltable silver panels, that all is bolted to inside the doors (i spent ages looking for these leaks ) adjusted the door cables de glazed the discs and greased up all the brake pads where they slide and general check over, all serviced (mayor) and all belts done, but i noticed two pin sized holes in both outer cvs, these will probably fail the mot,so what else could be on the way?? what are the Achilles heel of these cars/ what else to look out for?? they are quite heavy so there must be some week areas its 05 130tdi elegance manual, 120k on the clock and looks good, and drove well when i drove it back, might have noisy front wheel bearings but not to sure it may be those big tyres and alloys on it /road noise, is that normal? cheers everyone
  21. thanks guys the help is always welcomed, i will be having a go at it monday week, just one thing, will it affect the rear reversing sensors at all ? cheers
  22. i ssee !! or rather i dont.. im still a newbie and unsure of all proper protocol im partially sighted in right eye, so caps for me is necessary,( you should see my emails messages, their in huge font!) but will bear in mind, what happens if you use capitals to often? do balaclava wearing skoda drivers roll up and wave their fingers saying 'you dont wana be doing that' lol what are the other meanings and tags that get used? thumbup? and btw ,ive seen lots more of them but have no idea what they are and dont want to offend the tow bar is the old one classic b5 shape not the newer can of worms, incidentally i sold the car saturday ( yesterday ) but had a devil of a job in selling it, 02 tiptronic se 130 fsh in totally mint condition , still i broke even in the end, i dread to think what would happen if i was to sell the superb, these are regarded as inferior to vw , but all the same i like , they arent perfect JUST LIKE ME!
  23. WILL A PASSAT 05 SALOON TOW BAR FIT A SUPERB 05 SALOON ?? I HAVE THE BAR AND THE SUPERB AND WAS WONDERING, THE PART NO IS A BIT RUSTY SO I CANT CROSS REF WITH ANY DEGREE OF CERTAINTY ANY RECOMMENDATIONS WILL BE MUCH APPRECIATED
  24. HI ALL I KNOW THESE CAN BE EXPENSIVE, SO ANYTHING TO WATCH OUT FOR WHEN CHANGING OR UPGRADING? WHAT SORT OF A JOB TO FIT? DO'S AND DONT'S SO TO SPEAK
