  1. Balls. I've just bought this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111095503509 and in my fervour forgot to check the fitting. This only shows as compatible for the estate. Are they much different? Any chance the top bit will just fit on my hatch door card? At the very least I suppose I could somehow take some of the covering off and glue together so it looks a bit better.
  2. You can cache however much of the map you want on the Android stuff. Just zoom in or out and press make offline. If you plan a route it also automatically caches map data before you start as well : http://www.google.com/help/maps/helloworld/android/directions.html#feature-android-offline I've heard the maps on Nokia stuff has always been really good but I've never used it so can't comment. I just know from my own personal experience I've never had a problem using Google Nav even when going through dodgy signal areas. And the fact I can just say "Navigate to home", with all the added benefits like live traffic, up to the minute maps etc. make it a far better proposition to stuff like Garmin and Tom Tom personal nav devices.
  3. Worth selling the changer with it, or separately? Yeah the satnav is very decent compared to some. But (in my opinion) nothing anywhere touches Google Navigation on an Android phone. Pity, I've just ordered a line-in cable
  4. Wow didn't realise they sold for that much. That may well fund a nice head unit and the adapter kit for it. edit: Even though it says Skoda are they the same unit as in all VAG cars? Just wondering if I could also get away with putting T5, Golf etc on the listing.
  5. I always found the Citizen's Advice and Trading Standards were always too much on the side of the trader / dealer and wouldn't support you nearly as much as the law dictates. Essentially it's whatever a judge would consider reasonable. If you're a consumer, bought a car in good faith, it wasn't a trade sale, it wasn't cheaper because faults were identified as being part of the sale, and the dealer hasn't or won't fix the problem, then you can reject it as not reasonably reliable, or not as described. You don't have to give them a chance to fix it if not much time has passed but it will look better to a judge if you have. Just keep a note of everything, put everything in writing quoting the Sales of Goods act 1979 (amended), and be prepared for a bit of brinkmanship.
  6. Hey all. I've got the Skoda Nexus head unit in my VRS and while it's pretty good I much prefer my phone's Satnav connected to a head unit via bluetooth to manufacturer's. Are they worth anything? I know they're not quite up to the Columbus or newer but as I wouldn't need the in-boot 6 disc changer I'd also be able to flog that with it. Then I'd maybe just put a standard double-DIN Pioneer bluetooth head unit in. Any thoughts?
  7. Just bought this lovely VRS but the driver's door card has some damage. Can anyone suggest what I could do with this? I'm looking around for door cards on eBay but there doesn't seem to be much. Cheers
  8. Yes £2450 does seem overpriced for that many miles. As long as it's been regularly serviced the engine should be OK with the obvious increased risk of failure of any component as it has more use. The major problem will be the steering and suspension wear. I wouldn't go that high personally. For that budget I'd be looking a bit older with less miles, or pay slightly more to get under the 100k mark. I'd say that car's worth more like £1950. You can happily haggle as there won't be many people looking at that car, as you'll find when coming to sell it afterwards. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  9. I can't believe how many people don't know their statutory rights under the sales of goods act. Forget warranties, they're additional benefits on top of your statutory rights. You have the right to expect your vehicle to be reasonably reliable. In the case of a new car it's generally 6 years. I wouldn't be happy unless Skoda were paying 100% of the bill for a 4 year old car. If you took them to small claims court you can claim for all sorts of other expenses too so they'll want to avoid that and give in before it goes that far. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  10. Hi all, I've just bought an 06 Octavia VRS TSI hatch. It's lovely but it's incredibly noisy inside with a whirring sound coming from somewhere. It sounded like a wheel bearing but the tyres are some awful dodgy make and have no tread left so I assumed it's from them. A bit of Internet research later and it seems to be a common problem with this platform where they knacker tyres up if the alignment is out. So I'm having to get 4 new tyres and need some recommendations. But my budget is about half of the OP's. I always have Falken FK452s on my cars. Seem to defy physics but are far cheaper than they should be. Has anyone used anything Falken on their mk2 VRS? I can get the FK453 for £85 or the ZE914 for £70 on Camskill. I had some Goodyear Eagle F1s years ago which were fantastic in the dry but were positively dangerous in the snow, so anyone with those I'd recommend getting some winter wheels ready to go on. Cheers all.
