  1. The Yeti xenons dont. They have a setting which creates a flat beam for overseas travel
  2. I have never read a thread with so many twisted knickers! My first diesel yeti was fine but I have switched to petrol to suit my currently lower mileage. From what I have read there seems to be little if any real problem and a lot of anxiety based on hysterical US lawyer driven kerfuffle.
  3. "for some reason they deny" maybe it isn't related? We will find out if the change of a sensor cures it.
  4. I'm afraid the priority is cheapness where they think people won't notice- otherwise why is the battery OK in a golf v but east european ones need cheap underlay?
  5. Mkv golf battery box is a straightforward up grade and takes minutes one of my first jobs when i got both my Yetis. that and a proper hydraulic bonnet strut from superskoda. carpet felt and bent steel rods are fine if they are what you like.
  6. Been in the law business for more than 40 years =not so although some make a living trying and others are sent away muttering about their sincerely held but unacknowledged grievance.
  7. I have been driving since 1970 and have owned many vehicles. Only one diesel (my first Yeti 140 4x4) It was a good thing and unmatched on a long run down from UK to Portugal flexible and swift and altogether good. Unfortunately it didn't like my current and continuing low 8k/P/a and kept throwing an exhaust light necessitating an otherwise unnecessary motorway blat to clear it. Back to petrol=a 1.8 tfsi with shark stage one remap. Yes it uses more fuel but it does everything better. I have always suspected that diesel is best suited to commercial vehicle and heavy machinery use. Attempts to make it work for light passenger use have been partly successful many modern diesels don't stink or sound as if they are about to die of big end failure. I do sometimes wince when I hear a beautiful car sound ike like a transit but understand why those who tow or do vast mileage feel they suit them. then I read about the increasingly complex tech work arounds and feel that it is easier to make silk purses without staring from pig's ears

Variable servicing was invented for fleet managers to reduce costs for fleet sales, engineers who care about the lifespan of their vehicles??? Buy and run it cheap and out it after 3 years.
  9. It was a technical fix to meet wholly artificial testing requirements-if you set arbitrary and artificial tests smart engineers will find a way to comply-if you are lucky they will be clever enough so the user never suffers any disadvantage.
  10. I haven't grasped this notion of compensation-they do things differently in USA and there seems to be little useful to learn from what I know of their system. If you buy a car which works properly and does what you reasonably expect it to do what is the loss for which you yearn to be compensated? In the UK I doubt that any court would be able to calculate the sum required and that is because there is no real loss.
  11. Sounds right to me now that MOT's are computerised if station's are either passing, failing or recording advisories at an anomalous rate it should be apparent to the licensing authority in real time and should be checked in order to see why. If they do not monitor and investigate they would be negligent.
  12. Thanks for the smart arse comment I'm sure you are a nice fellow too.
  13. If you are setting off in a car and don't know whether your lights are on or off you have already demonstrated you aren't fully in control-just saying.
  14. Worth trying, reverse and apply the brakes once or twice-if something has got in between disc and pad that may dislodge it.
  15. Reading this thread it seems that what is physically possible is only one of the factors you should be considering. The fact that a given vehicle may successfully drag a particular load but you should also have in mind the safety of yourself and other road users if you are reduced to slow and awkward progress so are those behind you and if at normal highway speed you fall victim to any loss of control those around you are literally impacting on others. I've seen it happen and watched a caravan explode all over the place on a dual carriageway. So you should consider the convenience and safety of others before attempting marginal or theoretical decisions.
  16. If you want a British built car you need to be quick. Sunderland the British base of Nissan in Europe voted to leave the EU-so how long will a Nissan be a British built option?
  17. Driving steadily and watching the instant readout I got just over 40 on a 240 mile round trip at the weekend. half and half dual carriageway and "a" roads. usually near 30mpg. If caned or around town lower. I didn't buy it for, or expect economy
  18. I'm in the process of settling the final payment to own mine and have no desire for a new one a shark stage one remapped 1.8tsi with larger discs is something of a keeper in L&k trim is unlikely to be improved on- with my mileage I am looking forward to continuing to enjoy a comfortable, brisk and practical car for some years to come
  19. Everyone who does business does so to make money and to employ staff and therefore to help everybody. You choose to do business with anyone and you decide to give them money. Get over it and don't disrespect people who are doing an honest job who pays the wages which feed your family and pay your wages.
  20. If, as I understand it, the software cheat was designed to sense the entirely arbitrary emissions test cycle reconfiguring the map to no longer do so ought to have no discernible effect on normal driving.
  21. My L&k 1.8 comes to the end of it's finance deal next may and the final payment will be less than 3k for what will be a 20ish k mileage with no significant faults. I will snap it up.
  22. The registered keeper will receive a "notice to owner" which on pain of prosecution requires them to provide information as to the driver if an offence is believed to have occurred. I would decline to pay an admin fee to cover their costs in obeying the law unless it was a clear term of a contract I had agreed to in advance.
