  1. For summer use only. I ran Bridgestone EVO all weathers on my octy vrs previously, tbh they weren't noticeably better than regular summer tyres. Bridgestone Turanza another option
  2. Thanks, I stand corrected! Don't know much about this unit as its rare in skoda land, so don't know how durable it is? I guess overkill for the kodiaq for sure.
  3. New question - best eco tyres in this size? Local fitter has some Pirelli Powergy that are B rated for fuel eco. I spend about 80% of my high mileage cruising along a motorway, and since it's business mileage with a fixed fuel reimbursement rate, then eco is more important than outright grip, not interested in summer UHP tyres; but don't want to fall off the road on a wet RAB. Any recommendations? On shortlist so far: Yokohama BluEarth-GT AE51 Bridgestone Turanza T005 Pirelli Powergy These are the only obvious eco tyres on black circles right now in the 235/40/19 size.
  4. There's a separate thread on this for the superb. Seems that anything for golf gti mk5 or 6 will fit. I've seen a YouTube fitting some from T Carbon that fit perfectly so they're out there! edit: bought these in the end, they look like they will fit anyway, hopefully.... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174335114660?var=473529798662&_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D777008%26algo%3DPERSONAL.TOPIC%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20201018205123%26meid%3D4ec59d7b53174c3eb7d58255421fcd6b%26pid%3D101286%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26mehot%3Dnone%26itm%3D473529798662%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2380057%26algv%3DWatchlistVariantWithMLR&_trksid=p2380057.c101286.m47999&_trkparms=pageci%3A25f966a5-d387-11ec-b5e2-962e751ab81e|parentrq%3Ac2b099841800a7b32eb8e08dfff6aae8|iid%3A8
  5. off topic sorry, but I was considering getting my Superb ECU and TCU mapped by HEX8, would you recommend them? I see from your location you travelled a fair bit to get it done there?
  6. I found a couple for VW, someone asked if they fitted a 19 plate Superb, seller answered no. It will come donw to steering wheel part number. The paddles on my superb are not the same as the leon, and different again from a Gold R
  7. not sure they will fit. Quick search of amazon using my car filter doesn't throw up these are anything particularly exciting
  8. Where did you get them from? I'd like to do the same though I guess I need to find somewhere in Europe / UK.
  9. The manual paddles on the stock sportline wheel are pretty pathetic tbh, almost impossible to use when driving around town, pulling out of junctions etc.
  10. Did you have a chance to compare the setup with the new dampers fitted, and then without and with the RARB? I'm still contemplating adding one to reduce understeer a bit.
  11. My Cupra had same engine, the 280ps EA888. "only" 320bhp after the remap, but prodigious torque, it was too much tbh. It was great for overtaking anything anywhere, but it wasn't fun to drive as it was just too fast / too much grip for public roads. I think a 350+bhp Superb is a brilliant idea, but I can't live with the fuel eco given my business mileage. The 220 will remap to 300bhp / 450Nm on a generic S1 which is more than enough, and since I partially fixed the woeful dampers I'd actually be able to make some use of the extra power. No hurry to do it, It's a keeper and I need it to last beyond 100k
  12. I ran my Cupra that was measured at 517Nm (FWIW) with an unmodified DQ250. It was torque limited in 1-3, and in fact accelerated quicker in 4th gear than it did in third. The turbo blew up on mine, had the oil changed in the box when it was replaced, and it was much dirtier than normal. It's not so much that they slip like a conventional clutch might, it's the extra wear during gear changes that cause the most damage, but it's a long term wear issue, it means that the clutch pack life might be reduced by 20-25% which is fine if you're not keeping the car or low mileage etc. Of course if you drive it sensibly then no issue, but I defy anyone with a remap not to use it more than occasionally!
  13. Actually nothing to do with F1 starts, it's about the clamping force. You increase the torque, the plates are more likely to slip, especially when changing gear under acceleration. I've got the wet 6 speed which is less prone, but I'd still do it, as the clutch packs don't have an infinite life! Getting the TCU remapped also fixes the lag issue too of course. This is a good source to check the torque limits of your particular gearbox, I've got the DQ250 in mine, which is not rated to 500Nm, only 400. TLDR DQ200 - 7 speed dry rated to 250Nm DQ250 wet 6 speed 399Nm DQ380/381 wet 7 spd 420Nm DQ500 7 spd wet 600Nm (no Skoda to my knowledge has had one of these fitted) https://blog.fcpeuro.com/the-definitive-guide-to-the-dsg-transmission https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct-shift_gearbox
  14. FWIW If I remap my 220ps sportline, then I will also do the DSG at the same time; from experience, it's a must if you want avoid premature wear of the clutch pack.
  15. Actually more like 3 months, how time flies, but I drive a lot with my job. Yes, worth every penny. It was this or a remap. Latter not much use of the car loses control at moderate speeds. Look back through the thread, most that have done it reckon it's a big improvement.
  16. Mine is a petrol sportline 18 plate, 220ps engine. It was utterly crap at speed on a bumpy road, and would easily bottom out on a speed bump. Obviously not tried it, but I can't imagine it would now, even at high speed. Yes, I fitted special actives about 2 months / 5k miles ago.
  17. Personally, only my opinion of course, anything stiffer than the konis is going to ruin the ride quality and be pointless on UK roads, I can already exceed the limit point on most of my cross Wales commutes. That said, they do fidget and jiggle a bit, especially at low, speeds; if the B6 avoided that then they'd definitely be worth considering.
  18. The stop start function is a feature designed by a marketing team, not an engineer. It might indeed save a few molecules of fuel, but the thermal cycling and wear on the starter system isn't worth it. Today, I'm washing mine then off across mid Wales on holiday on a canal boat for the week, to be reminded why diesel power is so unpleasant!
  19. It's quite easy to eliminate, you just need to cut the flying ground lead from the battery apparently. Disclosure, I was told this by a tuner, no idea how to do it. I really need to call him again and ask, but I'd probably get talked into an ECU and TCU map.
  20. Agreed, I'd rather put Uniroyal Rainsports on than Michelin Pilots for example.
  21. What's the point in buying premium priced marginally higher grip tyres for a large, wallowy big bus? That's just the 280, everything else is even less sporty! Personally, performance tyres are those that work best in the wet.
  22. Didn't even unlock mine, let alone drive it today, however, I'm off up to Chester Wednesday afternoon across mid Wales, so it will get a bit of a pasting where safe and legal etc. The new konis have transformed it, it's actually a bit fun to throw around now. Then off up to Sheffield Monday and Tuesday and back home to pembs on Wednesday. I'm thrilled that business and travel is all opening up gmagain, just when petrol is becoming more expensive than malt whisky ffs. Oh and I put my brisky badges on, thanks Colin. One in the rear window and two side bar stickers in the rear passenger windows, so you couldn't miss them. There surely can't be many Dragon Green Superbs covered in Briskoda stickers?
  23. Biggest difference for me was sleeping policemen / speed bumps. I think gliding is a good description, it's far less reactive to the road surface, so much quicker over really bumpy rutted surfaces.
  24. That's interesting, I've found them to be a massive improvement. Much more and it would be too much for stock springs. 9n my car, it feels like my old cupra Leon with dcc on mid setting. Just realised you're talking about octavia. If it was the vrs, the stock springs are a fair bit stiffer than the superb, so the former B6 would probably be better suited than the konis (as that golf gti owner discovered).
