  1. I would only use a DSG if I had resasnobly low annual mileage, one of the other taxi drivers just traded in his 58 plate Octavia for a pre fl superb 13 plate aqua blue hatch 2.0 TDI DSG SE+, he got it for £15,995 cause they are selling off all old stock, I told him that a DSG will not stand the intense mileage and with a box oil change every 40,000 mile, more £££ too, reliability is what I buy vw products for, my annual mileage is 40,000
  2. A lot of things to go wrong, if you want a fl, buy one
  3. I looked, the Bentley has a bit more but not much, didn't want to drive to close to the Bentley, sure it's worth a few €€€€, it was owned by the owner of the hotel I was staying in whilst in the Republic of Ireland last week
  4. well i have been taxiing most of my days and i have mostly used sherrif meters and they have never let me down! i now have a digitax meter and it too is working fine, can assure you allot of the trade world wide uses the digitax and it is a very good meter, as for installing it, i would take it to a meter agent, if you are not sure fitting a meter is not a DIY job
  5. On Tuesday i stoped by tescos and it was very busy, parked up and got my things, came out and from where i had parked my superb was driving away with someone in it! so i immediately started running (not that well) after it and i then realized it was not my number plate, it was another taxi driver who parked next to mine and then drove away and he recently bought a 13 plate aqua blue hatch se spec superb, i then turned round to find my superb exactly where i left it, scary moment
  6. i am in the republic of ireland the now and compared to mainland uk there is alot of skoda's and allot less opel / vauxhall and ford, over here is seems to be Toyota's are the most common, but i have seen countless octavias really more common than focus and superbs too are quite common (even seen 4 superbs the exact same colour wheels spec as mine) and fabias + yetis are never too far away
  7. Plenty of the cabbies do it, but when it's removed the shadowing is terrible and needs a good bit of elbow grease to remove
  8. Well kit, was in Dublin yesterday with the car, must say the drivers are mad, and you really need to keep your wits about you, went into the city all and other surrounding areas including O'Connell street, is there a park and ride in dublin?
  9. My mk1 Octavia diesel 51 plates gear stick was wrecked by 2005 and 222,000 miles it need duct taped up to hold it together. The next 2 octys gear sticks were lightly worn but no where as near as the 51 plates
  10. Highest I have seen on the computer is 70.4 mpg
  11. Glad to hear you like it, I too like mine, it is the best car I have owned to date, hope you have a safe trip to Germany
  12. I came from a mk1 octy and I also must say the superbs foot rest ain't anything to shout about, it's alright but not as good as the Octavia
  13. Oh and by the way kit, what has the weather been like over your way recently, since I'm going to Dundalk and know that Dublin is about 40 mile away?
  14. Will do, I'm bringing with me plenty of whiskey
  15. just checked my private hire insurance certificate, it covers me for the UK & Channel Islands + anywhere in the European Union, yep taking my driving licence, insurance certificate, V5c, taxi drivers badge, disclosure Scotland bade, owners manual and the whole rest of my logbook, taking my badges for ID for going on the boats, I checked P&O's website and the larne - cairnryan route doesn't require ID but taking it just in case, I don't even have a passport, never had one in my life. Looking forward too it, still changing the plates over to the original rear one though and the roof arial and rear window sticker and the rear plate to deter any thieves who think money might be in it
  16. In a weeks time i am going on holiday to the republic of Ireland, going from Cairnryan - Larne then going down to the south (dundalk), so taking the car with me and what alterations are meant to be done to it for EU roads, ive not been there in 6 years so don't know if any of the legal requirements have changed, dont need to change the headlamps as they drive on the same side of the road but read something about your NO. plate having to show the GB flag? does a Scottish one do as that what the dealer put on it when i bought it, the car is used as a taxi so will need to put the standard rear plate back on before i go, but will the front one do to go outside the UK? Anything else
  17. It you think your car has faulty brakes don't drive unless it unless it is totally necessary, I would get it recovered to a local garage/dealer and get them professionally inspected and repaired. Years ago I was driving to to a gig in a mk3 transit and I noticed earlier that day the brakes were a bit gutless anyways I was approaching a set of traffic lights that had about 3 cars at it, I pressed the brakes and nothing so just yanked on the hand brake put it into 1st and banged the clutch out it slowed me down but still ploughed into the car in front. Luckily no one was hurt and I knew the guy I hut so I just gave him £100 and then there was a garage on the same street so I had another two people in the car and we just pushed it up to the garage got the brakes fixed was a faulty master cylinder and then to the bodyshop. Never drive anywhere with faulty brakes you never know when you will need them
  18. Last night I had to scrub at my superbs front wheels, they were black and needed to use tar remover as the wee spots of tar where all over, nice and shiny now thought aftern 1 hours work
  19. It took me a week to realise how to work the lights at the sun visors,
  20. It is hard having kids with a person then splitting up, it's hard for the kids and your self, I have been married twice 1st marriage had 5 kids eldest is now 43 youngest is 34 and then spilt up with her and remarried and had 1 boy in this relationship who is now 15, and we are still together living as all couples do the odd tiff here and there but nothing major, my elder Childern are not as friendly whith my wife sometimes, obvisly they want there mum and dad together but it wasn't to be and after we divorced she sadly passed away won't go into to much detail. Sad to see what is happening with you, I hated my mum and dad arguing as you just want them to be happy and at one time me and my wife went through a tough patch a few years ago and divorce was considered but for our boy we knew we just had to get our acts together.but hope your daughter is okay and you still have a right to see her no matter what mum says you are still her biological farther, just tell her straight that mum wont let you stay with me, I personally would go to a social worker for further advice on the situation
  21. Welcome to the forum, I too have a superb and when i got mine I too was questioning the deadlock message after switching the car off but looked on here and found it it was about not leaving people inside when the car is locked via the key
  22. I personally think the refinment is very good even with the radio off I find the car very quiet and handles ine too, I have a hatchback 1.6 TDI 62 plate
  23. one of the other taxi drivers fitted some aftermarket ones to his superb has he scuffed it against a barrier while backing into a bay, good luck in your quest and i too am from Lanarkshire
