  1. Wow, I'm on YouTube - as he comes off the track you can just see my bright red Furby queueing to go out and if you follow the related link you can see me yielding to the much faster cars :( Of course, if it's chucking it down on Friday, like it is now, the playing field might be a bit more level.
  2. The trackday is listed on MSE's website TRACK DAY CALENDAR so I think they will let anyone in - in fact, when I rang up to book they didn't ask if I was a Briskoda member before taking my details. So it definitely isn't just for Briskies, and 30 places sounds a lot to have reserved, as it's probably a substantial proportion of those available; when I was there before, there were only about 30 cars in total - I don't know what the maximum number of cars they'll accept is, but you could always contact them and find out how many spaces are left.
  3. It's the beginning of April - is there any more news on this?
  4. 1. Faboka/Pinklady - Mr & Mrs Jones - PAID 2. Octavia5 - PAID 3. Q - PAID 4. bmjb99 - PAID OK, I'm in. Spookily enough I was thinking of going on that day anyway, so it's a bit of luck to get a free lesson thrown in. Also, this may be preaching to the converted, but having done a trackday there, I would point out that it is literally in the middle of an airfield with only a burger van in attendance, so anyone going might like to take:- - something to sit on when not on track (unless they want to sit in their car) - something to drink (burger van does tea and coffee @
  5. Why not get new ones? (In fact, I once read the recommendation that if you dismantle split-rim wheels it's good practice to reassemble with new fastenings)
  6. The oil companies change the composition of both petrol and diesel according to the time of year. I don't know that it's so much of a problem nowadays, but my father was a lorry driver and occasionally in very cold weather he would be "stranded" after stopping overnight because the diesel had solidified in the fuel lines.
  7. Yes, mine does it too, except it only tends to be if I try and change the volume too fast - small increments don't tend to do it, so once I'd found out how to set up the unit so it switches on at approximately the correct volume I haven't had enough problems with it to worry about. I just assumed it was a "feature" of these rather quirky units
  8. I'd certainly be more tempted, if I thought there were going to be more Skodas there. That said, it is quite late in the year, getting near Christmas etc. etc.
  9. If you've got the service history then IIRC the list of what needs doing at each service is listed in the front of the booklet with the stamps in it. At 40,000 miles I think you'll need, oil and oil filter change, a new air filter and new spark plugs as a minimum. Then, depending on when they were last done, you might also need a coolant change and a brake service (fluid changed and pads/shoes as required). Cost very much depends on who does the work as the parts needed are relatively cheap, there's nothing complicated in the above list so any independent garage can do it - find somewhere local that "feels right" - and I would guess that it will be in the
  10. Tell me about it - last week I was on a track at the same time as some Ariel Atoms :Yikes:
  11. IIRC they're pretty cheap from the dealer - less then a tenner - if the grilles you're talking about (you don't specify the model) are black the they come that way and are unpainted, if they're body-coloured then they'll come in primer and need to be sprayed. The vRS has a black grille behind an extra body-coloured clip-on bit, both of which have to be bought separately.
  12. To me the Favorit isn't old enough to have the feeling of a classic, whilst still appearing terribly old-fashioned. However they are dirt cheap, worth about the remaining value on the tax disc plus the price of petrol in the tank Felicias are much more modern and IMHO very undervalued and excellent value for money. There are also more of them about, so you're more likely to find a good one and it will only cost a few hundred more than a Favorit. I recently sold my 1.6 Felicia for
  13. Well, I'm not near it and I know nothing about old Fords, however my suggestion (if you haven't already done it) is to look on the internet and you'll probably find a more appropriate forum full of fans of classic Fords who could give you much more useful advice. The more research you can do before buying, the better. Also, what are you going to do with the car if you do buy it - use it as a daily driver, take it out to shows and on sunny weekends, finish restoring it or just shut it away in a garage? Bear in mind that it looks like it hasn't been driven that far lately (either that or the seller is obsessive about keeping it clean!), so would you be prepared to "spoil" it by taking it out onto the roads, getting it dirty and wearing out the mechanical bits? Try and be realistic - ebay seems to be full of older cars that were bought on a whim and are now sitting idle as the owner hasn't got around to doing anything with them. Finally, I'm not a potential purchaser, but if I were I would be put off by the interior, I can't understand why it's been left in its current state if the seller has restored the rest of it so thoroughly. I'd either want to get rid of that awful blue carpet and steering wheel, put in more original-looking carpet and get the seats refurbished, or else fit some newer hot-rod-style seats to give the whole interior an updated retro look (but that's just my personal opinion). Is it a good buy? If you love that model and you don't end up paying more than it's worth (to you), then its value to you will be much more than you paid. :hooray: (I think - philosophy never was my strong point)
  14. Errm, can't say I'm that tempted at the moment. :sorry: Apart from the fact that it's near Bridgwater, just what is the attraction of WSM?
  15. Just out of interest, is this a general enquiry, or were you going to use it on your car?
  16. The map on the website is accurate, however the "Car Sales" has a wooden fence around it and looks like a car park, the road is unnamed and there are no signs, so I drove straight past first time You need to turn right immediately after the BP garage, if you go past the medical centre you've gone too far.
  17. Well I was there today and Adrian, the workshop manager, suggested that my car was not standard (which is news to me, since I had no contact with the previous owner - I just thought it pulled well!). So now my curiosity is whetted and I'll have to come along and see if it is "abnormal" :Yikes: 1) Jason, devonutopia 2) Will, Tigger (and the Standard Fabia vRS) 3) DrZoidberg 4) ElRichy 5) drm_jones 6) Decron 7) Jeremy, bmjb99
  18. I think the first thing I'd do is have another good hunt for the keys. But, if that fails, depending on how far away from the dealer you are and what their hourly rate is, it might be worth seeing if they will do a "home visit" - despite the added expense, it might work out to be less hassle in the long run. Otherwise, as the car is presumably locked at the moment, you'll either have to find someone with a flatbed recovery truck and a crane to lift it on (any local breakers near you who collect might have this), or get someone (a locksmith?) to open the car and then you can release the handbrake/ take it out of gear so it can be loaded onto a greater variety of recovery vehicles e.g. towed by one of those that lifts the front wheels. If you can get the steering lock permanently disabled then you could even get a friend to tow you with their car. Finally, may I suggest you buy two new keys - it's only the added expense of the key, as the the cost of getting the car sorted is otherwise going to be the same whether you get one new key or ten, and if you only have one key and lose that one...............
  19. Is it something to do with the scale change - jumps from 10 mph increments to 20 mph increments without them getting noticably further apart (something like that - I can't be bothered to go outside and look right now), so how well the internal workings handle the non-linear scale I don't know.
  20. In any case, it wouldn't be a real Rapid unless the engine was in the back!
