  1. Chris Knott were cheapest for me - half the price (no joke) than More Than (i.e.
  2. Worst was a Rover 400 (nee 45) (Loved the brand, loved the car but 13 times back in 6 months). An L Reg Ford Fiesta 1.3 Lxi and a stillo 1.9 JTD Active were as bad. Best for reliablity Fabia SDi - but soooo slow Most Loved Rover 216Gsi - but not that reliable. What a car though. Current Fabia VRS hasn't been perfect. Mainly niggles such as rear brakes squaling, trim issue, Radio failing, rear 3 point seatbelt warning light sticking. Shame as dynamically it's the only car that beats the 216Gsi
  3. Another 'Fen' Person - Live down the road in Chatteris Tom_vrs lives pretty close as well Welcome
  4. My poor laptop nearly died through this. And as for using the PC's at work - don't want my P45 - yet. OK for some and a good cause but think before you subscribe. Sorry to add a spanner but this has to be pointed out

  6. IAM is a good thing - but also consider ROSPA(RODA) Advanced driving group. 1. Membership is £10 a year (+ test fee when you are ready). Tuition is free, however you have to re sit a test every 3 years. 2. 3 Standards Gold, Silver, Bronze (no just pass fail). 3. Organisation is run as a charity. As to the questions 1. No. It's a pitty but most insurance companies don't give discounts. 2. Mentioned above. Rospa is a charity (IIRC IAM isn't and costs more) St John's ambulance now demand their drivers pass at silver. 3. Favourably. Our group (Cambridgeshire) has a police examiner. The guys come down and give talks etc. We even went out (in groups) in police cars last Sunday. Indeed the head of Cambs Police driver training always stresses how good the ROSPA organisation is. That said some of the police guys were at IAM on Sunday, the others were with us, so I suspect they look positively on both organisations.
  7. Portable tv 1992 Main TV 1999 Microwave 1994 SLR Camera kit 1985 (use digital mainly now) Dishwasher 1994 (Hand me down) House Built 1988 ;-) Have some clothes from 1984 (Most recent suit is 2001) but most circa 2001 - 2005
  8. Czech Wrecks is run by the same people from Staple 2 Naples and Home 2 Rome. I posted about this a little time ago, but got no response. Doing the S2N this year and are planning to take a Rapid. But am tempted to swap.
  9. Was with Direct Line for 10 years. Had a big bust up - they wouldn't let me duplicate my NCD on a 2nd car - or even give an intraductory discount. They lost me through that. What irked is I was told had I been a lady - with 2 cars, they would have duplicated my NCD. Now no disrespect to lady drivers but why can't they do that for all drivers. To make it worse still they are advertising that all named drivers earn NCD. I cannot drive 2 cars at once so wouldn't it be nice if they did duplicate NCD's. Anyway went to More than, who were competitive on 2 cars. Come renewal - I had swapped both cars for one Fabia VRS - they wanted £595. This was for a 38 year old clean licence, 13 years NCD, driveway/garaged, lowest risk area. Everyone else quoted between £365 & £469. All these smashed Furby VRS's must have been insured through More Than. Anyway Chris Knott (Briskoda) did mine for £309. Would strongly recomend people try them before renewal.
  10. Have tinted specs grey and browny/green - light So I don't bother - may get some when I get my contact lenses
  11. Right Moral of the story 1. Leave mods till your warranty runs out (I was going for the remap but (Long Story) a certain co didn't call me back (still waiting for a call over a month later)). So I am not having anything done till then. If the skoda employee is reading 1. Skoda was much better customer service wise before VW took over and 2. If you keep this attitude up my 7th Skoda will be my last). 2. Don't brag about modifications on a public site. 3. Dave - take Skoda to the small claims court. Costs literally nothing 4. Under the sale of goods act - talk to trading standards. If the part is not affected by the mod Skoda do not have a leg to stand on. Now where is the brochure for the Focus ST - and Skoda if you think I'm joking.....
  12. Problem was the 1st cars weren't brilliant. Box steering, poor rear suspension geometry, 14 inch 155 Czech tyres, swing axel. They also rotted quickly. Problem was our 'Friends' in Moscow. Skoda had a hatch and a front engine saloon, not a million miles away from the Audi 80 back in 1974, but Moscow said no. So the Estelle was designed and built on a shoestring. The Kings Lynn import centre did a lot to sort the car, changing the geometry, wheels and tyres, getting rid of the box steering and on some cars, replacing the swing axel with trailing arms. But the damage was done. The cars weren't that bad. Have fond memories of driving Mum's 120 LS, the 1st non dual control car I drove on a public road. Ok it was rough and ready, but hey - it was fun.

  15. 1st Mods sorry if this is in the wrong place. Please feel free to move, though I'm trying to see if anyone is interested in this. Came across this last night http://www.diggerland.com/index.htm OK maybe the 38 year old in me is having a mid life crisis. Seriously though, would anyone be interested. And if so at what location.
  16. This is quite a good one - a bit of a drive maybe but worthwile http://www.goodpubrestaurants.co.uk/show_restaurant.tpl?restaurant=144
  17. Of those I would have had the Aston. However what's the point with speed cameras
  18. My Opinion is look at an MG Rover. You could get a ZS 120 for that - or possibly a 75. That said talk to your dealer. Had a similar situation with an Alfa 156 and ended up in a Fiat Stillo JTD Demo. Not perfect but better than the unknown. Maybe a skoda dealer can put you in a higher mileage Octy - worth a try.
  19. Hey I used to work at the Lada import centre in Bridlington - during the college holidays of Summer 1988 - just before the Samara 5 dr was launched. Whatever you say about the cars - was a great place to work for. If they started again, my C.V. would be in - I promise you. Though I would still drive a VRS. Problem is the cars are re hashed samara's and the old Niva faithful. And with a Kia Picanto new for less than £5k - £6k is seriously overpriced. At £4500 they would sell though.
  20. Pitty, I like the MGF Back on topic, you think it's bad now - you should have a had a Favorit in the early 1990's. Even now people love the VRS but when asked why don't you buy one - it's the green badge. Ignorance is bliss I say - means my car is more exclusive.
